He impressed with really good production, with a slash line nearly identical to one of the Sonics’ best hitters, Shadow. He hit 11 home runs and 51 RBIs, and scored 40 runs in 300 PAs (extrapolates to 22 HRs, 102 RBIs, 80 runs over 600 PAs). He mashed lefties and platooned with Silver in right field whenever a lefty got a start, and got more playing time when Amy went down with various injuries. He had a solid, dependable glove in the outfield, with only a single error on the year. |

Player Profile: Charmy Bee, Batting Stats: 268 PA, 227 AB, 51 H, 9 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 22 RBI, 45 R, 34 K, 28 BB, 3 SF, 68 TB, .225/.317/.300, .617 OPS Advanced Stats: .285 wOBA, 12.7 K%, 10.4 BB%, .075 ISO, .253 BABIP Fielding Stats: 564.0 Inn, 100 G, 56 GS, 4 E, .987 Fld%, 4.74 RF Monthly Stats: April: 77 PA, 0 HR, 2 RBI, 10 R, .172/.303/.203, .506 OPS May: 39 PA, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 5 R, .188/.316/.188, .504 OPS June: 26 PA, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 7 R, .292/.346/.542, .888 OPS July: 50 PA, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 7 R, .318/.340/.364, .704 OPS August: 44 PA, 1 HR, 8 RBI, 11 R, .162/.279/.297, .576 OPS September: 32 PA, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 5 R, .269/.344/.346, .690 OPS Season Summary: Charmy was a utility infielder for the Sonics, playing second, short, and third. His batting stats aren’t going to scare off anyone, with only a .225 average and little power (.075 ISO). However, his plate discipline was quite good, with his 0.8 BB/K ranking second on the team by players with a minimum of 150 PAs. His .253 BABIP was also quite low, so there was some bad luck mixed in as well. While he wasn’t a huge base stealer, his baserunning was excellent; he was frequently used as a pinch runner late in games. He also provided very solid defense at all three of his positions, and he would frequently come in as Shadow’s defensive replacement. |

Player Profile: Mills, Batting Stats: 234 PA, 197 AB, 43 H, 8 2B, 3 3B, 4 HR, 27 RBI, 22 R, 58 K, 29 BB, 2 SF, 69 TB, .218/.330/.350, .680 OPS Advanced Stats: .310 wOBA, 24.8 K%, 12.4 BB%, .132 ISO, .285 BABIP Fielding Stats: 496.2 Inn, 60 G, 54 GS, 1 E, .997 Fld%, 5.94 RF, 4 PB Monthly Stats: April: 49 PA, 0 HR, 3 RBI, 5 R, .158/.327/.184, .511 OPS May: 54 PA, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 4 R, .222/.333/.444, .777 OPS June: 45 PA, 1 HR, 5 RBI, 5 R, .250/.333/.375, .708 OPS July: 29 PA, 0 HR, 0 RBI, 1 R, .042/.179/.042, .221 OPS August: 15 PA, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, .357/.400/.643, 1.043 OPS September: 42 PA, 1 HR, 9 RBI, 5 R, .306/.405/.472, .877 OPS Season Summary: Mills had good enough potential to make the opening day lineup for the Sonics. Unfortunately, his production at the plate didn’t match up, as he was batting .179/.300/.285 (.585 OPS) when he was sent down in early August. He was recalled late in the month an his bat caught fire, as he batted .348/.434/.565 (.999 OPS) from that point on, showing off his great potential to the team. He struck out a ton (24.8%), but he also walked a bunch (12.4%), which is a good sign for his patience. Handled himself well defensively, with only one error and a .997 fielding percentage. |

Player Profile: Omega, Batting Stats: 159 PA, 144 AB, 32 H, 2 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR, 12 RBI, 17 R, 40 K, 13 BB, 0 SF, 50 TB, .222/.296/.347, .643 OPS Advanced Stats: .289 wOBA, 25.2 K%, 8.2 BB%, .125 ISO, .280 BABIP Fielding Stats: 224.2 Inn, 40 G, 24 GS, 3 E, .981 Fld%, 6.13 RF Monthly Stats: April: 38 PA, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 3 R, .216/.237/.378, .615 OPS May: 36 PA, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 2 R, .233/.361/.433, .794 OPS June: 29 PA, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 3 R, .259/.310/.259, .569 OPS July: 20 PA, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 3 R, .118/.250/.118, .368 OPS August: 15 PA, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, .231/.333/.462, .795 OPS September: 21 PA, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 4 R, .250/.286/.400, .686 OPS Season Summary: Omega was a super-utility player off the bench, playing various infield and outfield positions for the Sonics. He had extreme hot streaks followed by extreme cold streaks, so the Sonics would like to see more consistency there. His ability to hit lefties got him starts at times (3 of his 4 home runs came as a starter.) Omega’s power was evident with two months of ISO over .200 and two over .150, but prolonged slumps usually resulted in power outages that kept his ISO down. His strikeout rate was sky high, with a 25.2% rate leading the team. He was solid in the field, not being a liability and having a nice fielding percentage (.981). |

Player Profile: Rouge the Bat, Batting Stats: 153 PA, 140 AB, 40 H, 6 2B, 1 3B, 2 HR, 14 RBI, 19 R, 25 K, 9 BB, 1 SF, 54 TB, .286/.336/.386, .722 OPS Advanced Stats: .321 wOBA, 16.3 K%, 5.9 BB%, .100 ISO, .333 BABIP Fielding Stats: 259.0 Inn, 52 G, 24 GS, 0 E, 1.000 Fld%, 2.71 RF Monthly Stats: June: 10 PA, 0 HR, 1 RBI, 1 R, .400/.400/.400, .800 OPS July: 32 PA, 0 HR, 4 RBI, 4 R, .310/.375/.310, .685 OPS August: 48 PA, 1 HR, 7 RBI, 4 R, .333/.340/.489, .829 OPS September: 63 PA, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 10 R, .214/.302/.339, .641 OPS Season Summary: Rouge was a solid midseason addition to the Sonics’ outfield. While her walk rate and power numbers were low, she hit line drives all over the field to the tune of a .286 batting average, make her a viable leadoff hitter when Amy went down. She didn’t have off-the-charts range in CF, but her arm was solid and accurate, and she didn’t make a single error. |

Position Player WAR So I found this awesome calculator on the web that approximates WAR: http://www.ryantansey.com/simplewar.html. Let’s use it on the Sonics! I used 2008’s averages (.333 OBP, .416 SLG) as the averages for the OPS+ and approximated fielding and baserunning based on various things. I’m not a huge proponent of WAR but let’s see: LF- Knuckles the Echidna- 167 OPS+, 8.5 WAR SS- Sonic the Hedgehog- 122 OPS+, 7.2 WAR 1B- Espio the Chameleon- 149 OPS+, 6.4 WAR 3B- Shadow the Hedgehog- 127 OPS+, 4.2 WAR RF- Silver the Hedgehog- 145 OPS+, 3.4 WAR 2B- Blaze the Cat- 100 OPS+, 3.2 WAR OF- Metal Sonic- 125 OPS+, 2.6 WAR C- Vector the Crocodile- 87 OPS+, 2.5 WAR CF- Amy Rose- 102 OPS+, 1.7 WAR C- Mills- 83 OPS+, 0.8 WAR CF- Rouge the Bat- 93 OPS+, 0.5 WAR INF- Charmy Bee- 67 OPS+, 0.3 WAR UT- Omega- 71 OPS+, -0.2 WAR |

Tikal was a ground ball pitcher who didn’t focus on strikeouts, and it shows here, as she only had one start with a K/9 above 7.00 (8 strikeout performances in 7 innings against the Nationals). In her first seven starts, she K’d 22 batters in 45.1 innings (4.37). Her next 12 starts, she K’d just 15 batters in 79.2 innings! (1.69). Her last 6 starts, she K’d 24 in 41.0 innings (5.27). Overall, she had 61 strikeouts in 166.0 innings, for 3.31 K/9. |

Tails was more strikeout-oriented than Tikal, with a 6.90 K/9 and a team-leading 165 strikeouts. In his first 11 starts, he struck out 41 in 73.1 innings, for a K/9 of 5.03. He really had his strikeout stuff in his next 15, with 85 punchouts in 89 innings (8.60 K/9). His strikeout rate fell a bit in his next 5 starts, with 16 Ks in 32.1 innings (4.45). He ended the regular season with great stuff, as his last three starts produced 23 strikeouts in 20.1 innings (10.18). |
