We should have a reference for the best cheap players in 2008!

I think David Wright is cheap (not sure yet) and he's got avg fielding and B con A pwr.
Anybody else?

Torii Hunter. He climbed a 10 ft centerfield wall all the way to the top, STOOD ON TOP OF THE WALL, then leapt 10 ft off the top of the wall to catch an easy 420+ feet homer from me.

Oh! You mean inexpensive...

LOL @ Kilmar - Yeah, I think Chone Figgins nearly did the same thing to me, but it was just slightly out of his reach!

As far as best cheap season mode players go, I've got a whole list I've guys!

Starting Pitcher:

*Tim Wakefield - 4000 points (The price is a bargain for what you get in return. I'm routinely getting 15+ Ks per game and have an ERA around 1.50. Probably the best pitcher on my entire staff.)

*John Maine - 390 (?) points (C control, A stamina, good variety of pitches with movement)

*(tie) Tom Gorzelanny/Rich Hill - 390 (?) points - Both are fairly similar, young lefty starters with C control and A stamina. Both have good movement on their pitches and can be had for cheap.

Relief Pitcher:

*Pat Neshek - 390 (?) points (A very good sidearm, relief pitcher with good movement and multiple pitches)

*George Sherrill - 390 (?) points (An excellent situational lefty or closer with a lot of good attributes and pitches)

*Saul Rivera - 390 (?) points (Another relief guy with a variety of pitches and good movement.)

*Cla Meredith - 390 (?) points (A solid, righty setup man that won't cost a lot.)

Infielder:

*Dustin Pedroia - 390 (?) points (A very good contact hitting 2B)

*Conor Jackson 390 (?) points (1B, A good all around player with decent power who doesn't cost a lot.)

*Ryan Garko 390 (?) points (1B, not as good as Jackson IMO, but can be picked up for virtually nothing and has decent power.)

*Brendan Harris 390 (?) points (A good hitting, decent backup option who can play multiple IF positions)

*Brian McCann 390 (?) points (An excellent, young catcher with all-around good abilities.)

Outfielder:

*Ryan Church 390 (?) points (Good hitting with some power, multiple positions in OF)

*Ryan Braun 390(?) points (Might be expensive in trying to obtain through a trade, but worth the price. Sub-average defensively, but his bat more than makes up for it.)

*Corey Hart 390 (?) points (Another good, young outfielder who can play multiple positions. Hits well for contact but has some power too.)

*Ryan Sweeney 390 (?) points (You can pick him up for virtually nothing. Not a great hitter or defensive player, but can play all the OF positions. A good player to have on your bench in case of an injury.)

Thanks SPE777. I just made an arrange team with a salary of 18895! LOL

Oh, thought you were doing a fantasy draft!

In that case...

I'd add Francisco Liriano, Chien-Ming Wang, Prince Fielder, Hunter Pence, Taylor Buchholz, and Huston Street (who's better than Papelbon- sorry!) to that list. I'm not sure that any of them make more than 1000 points per season. Apologies if I'm wrong!

Anyone know of a good 3B or SS making less than 1000 points per season? I can't think of any...

I think Ryan Zimmerman is 400 or something. D con B pwr and pretty good fielding
Hanley Ramirez 420 or something - 12 con A pwr 12 spd E arm C fld C e res. But you can only get him in arrange mode.

Also Chien Ming is a bit expensive - 4000 I believe, better check to be sure.

Yeah but he's consistently in the top 3 for Cy Young every year and has very good stuff. The only problem will be resigning him when his contracts up.

Try to remember the age of players. Sure Wakefield can get a ton of K's, but thats only in year one. After you'll have to convert him to a reliever, and by year 3 you've traded him. Wang>Wakefield, I usually pick up Zimmerman as 3B. As a general rule of thumb, check the low payroll teams (Tamba, Marlins, KC) for some cheap, OK talent, maybe a good one if you're lucky.

Oh yeah, it's not cheap but pick up Ichiro. Last year when he went to 35+ not a single stat dropped. Not sure about 08. Good thing they put in his calisthenics in 07.

Does stamina drop that rapidly at that age?

yeah. you're a 40+ starter, after a year, welcome to the bullpen. 3-4, welcome to AAA.
Different for some pitchers-rivera had a good career mostly cuz of his abilities. you got someone like wakefield....eh.

Here are a couple more names...

H. Ramirez- 390 (he has great power, contact, and run speed) (but not as good in fielding)

Felix Hernandez- 390 (he is a dominate pitcher, C and A)

Andre Ethier- 400 (he has C con, B pwr, and B run spd, and is a good fielder)

In addition to what's already been said...

B.J. Upton, 24 yr old CF, cheap, hits 30-40 HR's in season mode for me.
