The Oklahoma City Stampede were able to squeak by The Fresno Phoenix in game 5 of the World Series thanks to Left Fielder Quincy Portis who brok up a 0-0 tie in the 6th inning with a 2 run HR over the Green Monster in Fenway Park. Tito Makani got the start for this game even though he was in purple condition and was coming off a terrible outing in the NLCS were he only pitched 4 1/3 innings and gave up 5 runs on 9 hits and didn't strike out a batter, well Tito Makani must have a short memory because in what possibly could be the biggest start of his career he forgot about his recent struggles and went out there and pitched a great 5 innings and didn't even allow on earned run and picked up his 2 win of the postseason. The series moves back to The Stampede's home stadium for games 6 and 7 as Oklahoma City now just needs one win to cap off an amazing season and win the first ever SMLB World Series.

Oklahoma City couldn't close out the World Series in game 6 as starting pitcher Rex Fury had a tough outing giving up 4 runs in just 5 innings pitched, as the Stampede lose 4-3. The Stampede almost made a comeback for the ages with 3 runs in the 9th inning curosity of a Vic Olvariz opposite field HR that scored 3 runs but the 9th inning rally fell just short, Ian Riley will start Game 7 of the World Series as The Stampede will play in their 3rd elimination game of this years postseason.

It was one for the ages as Game 7 of the first ever SMLB World Series went down to the wire with the Fresno Phoenix beating the Oklahoma City Stampede 2-1 in 17 innings. The Stampede just couldn't convert on countless opportunities to put the game away including having the bases loaded in the bottom of the 12th inning. Mike Edmonds, the manager for the Oklahoma City Stampede had this to say about the game in a post game interview, "Although we lost, and that was probbaly the toughest loss you could ever take, that was one heck of a game and i'm prous of my guys for having one heck of a season, we came up a bit short of our ultimate goal of winning a World Series but I promise you right now that we will be back here next year."

April 1st, 2009 Opening Day Pitching Roles and Starting Line ups
STARTERS
1.Rex Fury: A hard throwing left hander with a wicked curve, Rex Fury was the number 2 starter last year and ended the season with a 2.10 ERA and a 8-12 record.

2.Steve Screws: Won both rookie and pitcher of the year awards in the NL last season and also had the lowest ERA and most Strikeouts, finished the season tied with teammate Tito Makani for the most wins in the NL, also pitched a perfect game last season.

3.Ian Riley: Spent most of last season in the bullpen but was moved to a starting role after K.K. Jennings continued to struggle, finished the season with a 2.49 ERA and a 11-6 record.

4.Doug Copet: A soft throwing right hander with average breaking pitches, started last season off on a roll but struggled down the stretch, finished last season with a 2.15 ERA with a 13-7 record.

5.Tito Makani: Another soft throwing right handed pitcher with a really good original slider, last season he was tied for most wins in the NL with 17 and only lost 2 games. Needs to improve his stamina to be a real threat.

SWING MAN
1.K.K. Jennings: Started last season off as the ace pitcher on the staff but could never find his stuff, finished with just a 3-10 record and a team high 4.40 ERA.

LONG RELIEVER
Andre Voyles: A left handed submarine pitcher who just developed a changeup during spring training, last year he finished with a 1.48 ERA in 21 games, also could be moved to the swing man spot if Jennings doesn't get it together.

MIDDLE RELIEVER
1.Ray Simpson: Another left handed pitcher with a 2-seam fastball that has lots of movement, struggled at times during last season.

2.Bastien Rivera: The lone rookie on the SMLB roster, was signed to play with the minor league team but due to his strong showing in spring training he was called up and will be on the opening day roster.

SITUATIONAL LEFTY
1.Wade Cox: A lefty with little to no control but has a really good level 5 Curveball, finished last season with a 2.22 ERA

MOP-UP MAN
1.Niles Hyman: A right handed pitcher with a great curveball/changeup combination but has never really found his stuff during games, changed his pitching form from to overhand to 3-quarters during spring training in hopes that it will help his high ERA from last season go down this season.

SET-UP MAN
1.Martin Crane: A right hand submarine pitcher with deadly breaking ball pitches, has really high stamina for a set-up man and could possibly be moved to a Swing Man role or even the 6th starter if the Stampede decide to move to one.

CLOSER
1. Finley Wood: A hard throwing right hander with a level 7 Slurve, finished last season with 26 saves.

Opening Day Starting Lineup
1.Quincy Portis: An all-around great left fielder, last year he finished with 19 home runs and led the team in doubles, stolen bases, and base on balls.

2.Randy Gurch: Was recently converted into a true CF after playing the position last year mainly as a left fielder which led to some error problems, has a weak arm for a CF but his bat makes up for it, last year he hit .274 and led the team in at bats.

3.E.J. Florence: Two broken collarbones sidelined this contact hitting catcher for a lot of the season, but when he did play he was impressive, batting .326

4.Anthony Gallagher: A power hitting right fielder who led the league in home runs last year despite his strikeout struggles.

5.Simon Moon: led the team in batting averaging hitting .321 on the year.

6.Vic Olvariz: A hard hitting 2nd baseman who was 2nd on the team in home runs last year and always seemed to get the big hit.

7.Chase McCain: won a gold glove last year for his play at SS and also managed to bat an even .300 on the year last year, has improved his power during spring training.

8.Woodrow Cruise: An average hitting 1st baseman with incredible fielding ability.
