Pirates Pound Brew Crew

The Pirates dominated the Brewers today, beating them by five. Mike Cameron jacked a homer to left in the top of the first, but Pittsburgh countered. They scored four in the third, one in the fourth, and another in the fifth. What was even more surprising than the win over the division leader was the fact that nobody struck out, despite having three batters likely to top over 150 K's this season (McLouth, Nady, and Olivo).

Pirates Can't Capitalize

The Pirates were able to get fourteen hits today, but couldn't capitalize on hardly any of them. Their only runs came from two solo shots from LaRoche. The Cubs also had issues, but it wasn't as noticable on the stat sheet due to a three-run bomb by Derrek Lee in the seventh. Both teams had a bases-loaded situation with no outs, yet neither squad was able to score any runs. After Morris's last inning, he was experiencing slight elbow pain, but feels fine and will be ready to go in his next start.

Pirates Lose in Extras

The Pirates faced the Cardinals at Busch Stadium, but couldn't quite pull out the win. Gorzelanny was roughed up in the first by giving up four runs on five hits. The Pirates scored three in the top of the fourth (including a home run by Olivo with a man on second), and another in the eighth to tie the game. From that point Soria was able to throw four scoreless innings until the twelth when Yates came in. After retiring the first couple batters, Yates gave up two hits before Troy Glaus ripped a walk-off single down the right field line to win the game.
