Philadelphia Phillies (22-24) @ Washington Nationals (24-22)

May 19, 2008: The Nationals were defeated by the Phillies today, and were almost shutout by opposing pitcher Cole Hamels. Nationals starter John Lannan didn't do so well though, giving up 5 runs in his 7 innings. The first of those runs came on the first pitch of the game, which Jimmy Rollins took deep into the left field stands, to give the Phillies an early 1-0 lead. Rollins scored again in the 3rd, on a Shane Victorino RBI single, making it 2-0. Both scored in the 5th, when Chase Utley hit a 2 RBI single, but was thrown out trying to take second. In the 7th, Rollins struck again, hitting an RBI double, and making it 5-0. Ryan Howard followed up by hitting a solo homer the next inning, making it 6-0 Phillies. It looked like the Nationals wouldn't score, but the first three batters of the lineup had different thoughts. Guzman singled, and was advanced to third on a Lopez single. Chris Smoove came up next, and blasted a 3 run homer to left center, and made it 6-3. But, the offense was not able to score again, and the Nationals would go home with a loss. Jimmy Rollins played very well, and was a large part of why the Phillies scored most of their runs. It looks like April may have been a fluke month, the way the Nats are playing now. They will have to pick it up.
