UPCOMING SERIES

Sacramento Slayers (7-6) vs Phoenix Cobras (9-3)

The Slayers have a tough series ahead of them with the Phoenix Cobras. The Cobras are currently in first place in the NL West, 2.5 games ahead of the Slayers. The Slayers need to win this series in order to close that gap. Here are the players the Slayers (ha, I rhymed) need to focus on in this series:

Keaton McBride, 2B, #3, R/R, 29 years old
3 TRJ, A CON, B PWR, B RUN SPD, B ARM STR, A FLD, B E RES
GM REPORT: McBride is considered to be the best player in the league, though there are others that you could make the case for. However, McBride provides a great spark to the Cobras offense, and he's probably the reason the Cobras are in first right now. He is currently hitting an eye-popping .469, with 3 HRs and 13 RBIs. He can hit the ball to all fields and because of that, combined with his speed and contact ability, he is the ideal hitter for Panpaka Park.

Homer Bell, 1B, #88, R/R, 37 years old
4 TRJ, D CON, A PWR, E RUN SPD, A ARM STR, E FLD, D E RES
GM REPORT: You can tell what this player does best simply by looking at his name. He can absolutely crush a ball, when he makes contact, that is. He's one of those high HR/high K guys. Be careful when he's batting in a clutch situation, as he is quite cool under pressure. His power numbers are slumping a bit (only 1 HR this year, the same amount as Raiders CF Antoine Pool, who has F PWR), so we'll see if he can break out of the slump in this series.

Vincent Davidson, CL, #67, L/R, 32 years old
98 TOP SPD, B CTRL, E STAM, 2SFB 3, SIFB 6, HSNK 6, SLV 5, CUT 6
GM REPORT: Davidson is without a doubt the best closer in the NL. He's not particularly intimidating, but his pitches are quite the opposite. He headlines one of the better bullpens in the league. It's rare when he gets a batter to hit a flyball, as he is normally a groundball/strikeout pitcher.

PROJECTED PITCHING MATCHUP:

Game 1: C.J. Wilson (1-0, 1.69) vs. Cliff Cole (92 TOP SPD, D CTRL, A STAM, SLD 2, SPLT 3, SNK 2, SIFB 4; 1-1, 24.30)
Game 2: B. Morrow (0-0, 9.00) vs. Alan Stanridge (91 TOP SPD, E CTRL, A STAM, SLD 3, CUT 4, CHG 2; 0-1, 5.84)
Game 3: J. Jurrjens (1-1, 4.26) vs. Harry Thomas (88 TOP SPD, G CTRL, C STAM; CUT 1, PALM 1, KN 1; 2-0, 10.80)

The Cobras are thankfully sending out their worst 3 starters, so if the pitching does well, then the Slayers should win the series.

wow Keaton McBride is good! The Cobras are really good, except their starting rotation is sort of weak. I think I would rank the teams you have played or are about to play like this
1. Cobras
2. Raiders
3. Gamblers
4. Ham Bones
5. Whalers

I'd say that's pretty accurate. Your post just gave me an idea to do power rankings at the end of each week, along with the Player of the Week posts.

Power Rankings would be awesome. I've never seen it been done before.

Now that I think of it, I'm definitely gonna do it now. Besides the fact that it likely hasn't been done before, I also believe that it'll give a better idea of a league and players still pretty unknown to the forum.

Sacramento Slayers 11 - Phoenix Cobras 7

SUMMARY: The Slayers' offense came alive today after a weak series versus the Nashville Raiders. Though a lot of runs were scored, the real important ones came in the bottom of the first, when Ben Zobrist tripled to bring home Martin Prado, who had led off the inning with a single. Then, after Jose Bautista reached on a fielder's choice and with runners on first and third, first baseman Adam Lind homered into the right field bleachers to give the Slayers a 4-0 lead, which the Cobras never recovered from. C.J. Wilson pitched well enough to earn the win, going 5.1 innings and allowing 3 earned runs.

SLAYERS' LINEUP

A. Rincon - 1 IP, 3 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 2 ER, 12.20

The Slayers started the series off well, and with even worse Cobras pitching in the next games, they should also finish the series well.

Sacramento Slayers 2 - Phoenix Cobras 3

SUMMARY: Another great game, too bad this one didn't fall into the Slayers' favor. The Slayers started off the scoring with a solo shot by Ben Zobrist in the bottom of the 1st. Fast-forwarding to the top of the fifth now, with the score 2-1 Slayers. Catcher Edgar Tomlinson smacks a grounder that bounces off a diving Mike Morse's glove and into left field, scoring Keaton McBride and third baseman Larry Patterson, giving the Cobras a 3-2 lead. Pitcher Alan Stanridge dominated from then on, only allowing 2 hits after that 2-run first inning en route to a complete game victory.

SLAYERS' LINEUP
M. Prado - 1-4, .243
B. Zobrist - 1-4, HR (3), RBI, R, .324
J. Bautista - 0-4, .348

COBRAS' PITCHING
A. Stanridge - 9 IP, 6 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 2 ER, 4.22 (W, 1-1) (Player of the Game)

The Slayers need to at least win this series, and there are good odds that they will, as they face one of the worst starters in the league in Harry Thomas tomorrow.

SLAYERS NOTIFICATION

Harry Thomas has (unfortunately) been scratched from his start for an unknown reason. Reliever Alan Rincon will start the series finale in his place. Here's the report on Rincon:

Alan Rincon, RP, #73, L/L, 32 years old
92 TOP SPD, D CTRL, D STAM, CB 2, PALM 5; 0-0, 12.20 ERA

The Slayers hit him pretty hard in the series opener, as he gave up 2 runs in one inning. Look for similar success by the Slayers, especially since Rincon is in a role unfamiliar to him.

Sacramento Slayers 4 - Phoenix Cobras 1

SUMMARY: What a series by the Slayers! Another thriller that results in a win, as they inch closer to the top of the division. Martin Prado led off the bottom of the first with a solo homer into left field. Later, specifically the top of the third, Cobras CF Alex White ties it up with a shot that lands in almost the identical spot as Prado's. In the bottom of the 6th now, after a single and stolen base by Ben Zobrist and a questionable defensive play by shortstop Morris Stevens that leads to both Jose Bautista (the batter) and Zobrist (the runner) being safe, Adam Lind breaks the game open with a 3-run blast into right center field. The Slayers pitching led the way after that, with Jair Jurrjens getting out of jams, and Brian Wilson notching his 4th save. This win gives the Slayers momentum going into an away series versus a team they have already faced.

SLAYERS' LINEUP
M. Prado - 1-4, HR (3), RBI, R, .243
B. Zobrist - 2-4, 2B, R, .333
J. Bautista - 1-4, 2B, R, .343
A. Lind - 1-4, HR (6), 3 RBI, R, .273 (Player of the Game)
M. Morse - 0-3, .277
J. Francoeur - 1-3, 2B, .381
K. Suzuki - 0-3, .226
F. Gutierrez - 0-3, .213
J. Jurrjens - 0-3, .111
B. Wilson - 0-0, N/A

COBRAS' LINEUP
K. McBride - 3-4, K, .508
A. White - 3-4, HR (5), RBI, R, .333
L. Patterson - 0-4, 2 K, .322
H. Bell - 0-4, 3 K, .254
E. Tomlinson - 0-4, 2 K, .333
V. Griffin - 1-4, K, .182
B. Johnson - 2-4, .314
M. Stevens - 0-4, .227
A. Rincon - 0-2, .000
R. Osuna - 0-0, .167
PH - C. Cardenal - 0-1, .000
C. DeJesus - 0-0, .500

SLAYERS' PITCHING
J. Jurrjens - 8 IP, 8 H, 8 K, 0 BB, 1 ER, 3.33 (W, 2-1)
B. Wilson - 1 IP, 1 H, 1 K, 0 BB, 0 ER, 6.35 (SV, 4)

COBRAS' PITCHING
A. Rincon - 5 IP, 6 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 4 ER, 10.00 (L, 0-1)
R. Osuna - 2 IP, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 0 ER, 3.12
C. DeJesus - 1 IP, 0 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 0 ER, 4.22

The team in question is the Nashville Raiders, who the Slayers previously had trouble with. However, they may not have to deal with the 2 aces this time around.

I meant one where the other people on the forum created the players.

UPCOMING SERIES

Sacramento Slayers (9-7) vs Nashville Raiders (10-6)

The Slayers had trouble against the Raiders last time, though they are fortunate enough to avoid 1 of the 2 aces at the top of the Raiders rotation. Here are some new key Raiders players to watch out for in the following series:

Devin Baxter, LF, #44, R/R, 27 years old
3 TRJ, C CON, C PWR, B RUN SPD, C ARM STR, C FLD, C E RES
GM REPORT: The Raiders left fielder is one of the hottest hitters on the team, and our previous series got him going. Coming into the first series against us, Baxter was hitting .238. Once the series ended, his average climbed up to .304, and he comes into this series hitting .324. Keeping his bat quiet out of the leadoff spot will be a key to winning this series.

Robert Livingston, 3B, #85, L/R, 33 years old
4 TRJ, D CON, B PWR, F RUN SPD, B ARM STR, C FLD, C E RES
GM REPORT: Livingston has been the Raiders' most consistent hitter so far, as he's hovered around the .320-.330 mark for most of the season. He thrives in small ballparks, and this series will be located at one, GreenApples Stadium. He does seem to have a problem hitting lefty pitching, however.

Jacob Brantley, CP, #73, L/L, 24 years old
98 TOP SPD, B CTRL, E STAM, 2SFB 2, PALM 3, SLV 6, CUT 4
GM REPORT: In a small sample size (6.1 innings, to be exact), Brantley has proven to be quite dominant as the Raiders' closer. He hasn't allowed a run yet, and has 5 K:1 BB. He is quite intimidating on the mound, but he tends to leave pitches right down the middle.

PROJECTED PITCHING MATCHUP:

Game 1: A. Sanchez (1-1, 4.91) vs. H. York (1-2, 5.82)
Game 2: S. Marcum (2-1, 5.60) vs. B. Bohan (1-1, 3.77)
Game 3: C.J. Wilson (2-0, 2.53) vs. Danilo Lerias (92 TOP SPD, C CTRL, A STAM, HSNK 3, SPLT 2, HSLD 2; 1-1, 4.42)

The Slayers are looking for redemption after a disappointing series against the Raiders the last time they faced off. The Slayers are in a good mood, however, after just winning the series against the rival Cobras.
