Pirates Make Moves, Mull Options

The Pirates have made their moves and decided to release RHP Walker(draft pick last year), RHP Franqeulis Osoria, and RHP Conti was part of the failed draft. The moves to be mulled are for depth and the bullpen. Matt Guerrier was released my the Twins recently and had a great 2.55 ERA but also there is veteran Juan Cruz who has a 6.55 ERA. Juan Cruz(edited) has been a veteran for awhile and has been good in other places, Guerrier is still relativity and has had a great season. They are both free agents and really the only candidate to send down to AAA is Kevin Hart who has still been good with a 4.34 ERA. The Pirates will need the crowd's help to decide a little more on this.

give us their ratings and desired salaries

I would suggest signing both and throwing them in AAA for the time being.

Cabrera's walk-off caps extra innings win

June 12 -- The Pirates took a tough loss in extra innings today against the last place Tigers in the Central. The Pirates got into a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning with an RBI double by today's DH Steve Pearce and an RBI single for Lastings Milledge. Karsten's start didn't last very long at all but thats mainly from a 3rd inning grand slam homerun from Carlos Guillen which made it 4-2 before Jayson Werth tied the game in the 5th inning with a 2-run homerun off of Dontrelle Willis. The Pirates were able to survive in the 9th with some phenomenal defense. Matt Treaner led off with a double to begin the bottom of the 9th, Jones made a diving play to throw out a runner at 1st for 1 out and his at third, then Jones made another great play to make the catch on a blazing line drive, then the third out was made on a great catch by McCutchen who just got to the ball to end the 9th. But sadly that wouldn't hold on as Miguel Cabrera would send everyone at Comerica Park happy with a walk-off homerun.

Guerrier was just taken by Cincinatti so that looks out of the question

Cruz is still available and is:

E stamina
2 slider
2 changeup
3 curveball
98 MPH
Safe Pitch
Fastball Life 2
1550 salary

Vazquez gets first win of the year as Bucs stop Twins

June 16 -- The Pirates took 2 out of 3 from the Twins as Virgil Vazquez got his first victory of the season. There weren't much to highlight off the top today though, Mike Fontenot gave the Pirates a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning but Andrew McCutchen had the biggest hit with a 2-run homerun in the 4th inning which would be the decided in the game. More breaking news is Jeff Karstens, the Pirates plan on deciding what to do with him after he hurt his elbow on Saturday. But whatever happens, Aaron Cook will be back tommorow, an off day before heading to St Louis.

June 16 -- Karstens become third pitcher to DL in June, Cook to return

Image

The injury bug has surely effected the Pirates pitching in June as Jeff Karstens joins Aaron Cook and Zach Duke as the other 2 on the DL in June. Karstens left the game on Saturday and is being sent to the 15-day disabled list with elbow pains and was listed as unable to pitch for 13 days. But very luckily for the Pirates, RHP Aaron Cook will return for the series in St Louis tommorow. The rotation will now be Sanchez, Maholm and Cook while Glanville and Vazquez will stay as the number 4 and 5 starters in the rotation.

I don't get it. I've only had like three or four injuries that caused me to go on the DL in the whole time I've played PP. And that was only when I crash into a wall.

I don't get it either, it was probably gonna happen to Karstens at some point because he has trouble throwing 70 pitchers(even with B stamina)
Cook hurt himself sliding home and Duke did the same thing as Karstens

I've never had 3 injuries in a year probably, never mind to 3 pitchers in a month :| I'm suprised this happened too

Pirates and Cards explode late after being no-hit

June 18 -- It was a wild day in St. Louis as both teams combined for 6 homeruns in the last 2 innings of the game. Both teams were no-hit through 5 innings but Glanville's was broken up in the 6th inning. Piniero's was broken up with no outs in the 7th with an RBI triple by McCutchen who get erased by being thrown out on a sac fly attempt by Skip Schumaker. Glanville could not get an out in the 7th though when Pujols hit a solo shot for a 1-0 lead and 2 hitters later Khahil Greene hit his 4th homerun of the season, a 2-run shot, to make it 3-0. But the Pirates would show their homerun power in the 8th inning with back to back homeruns by Jones and Steve Pearce to cut the lead to 1. But the Cardinals scored 4 runs in the 8th inning to really put it away and get to within 5 games of the Pirates in the NL Central after struggling for awhile.

June 22 -- Duke Back From DL

LHP Zach Duke has come back from elbow pains to rejoin the Pirates rotation. Duke has been gone since injuring his elbow in Chicago in interleague play and has been rehabbing since. The rotation is starting to come back to form after at one point having Cook, Karstens and Duke all on the disabled list. To make room for Duke, RHP Virgil Vazquez will be sent down to AAA. Vazquez did his job in his 2 starts going 1-0 with a 4.68 ERA in 11.2 innings. Ross Glanville will stay in the rotation for now as he has gone 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 3 starts and 20 innings this season.

Cook Returns from DL as Bucs fall in final interleague road game

June 26 -- The Red Sox were able to sweep the Pirates at Fenway Park for the Pirates last interleague game of the season on the road. Garrett Jones put a 3 spot on the board in the 1st inning with a 3-run homerun off of Brad Penny who is 8-1 with a 3.32 ERA coming into this game. The Red Sox put 2 on the board in the 1st inning off of Aaron Cook who was just returning from the disabled list. The Pirates led going into the 5th inning after an RBI single by McCutchen in the top of the 5th but former Pirates star Jason Bay gave the Red Sox a 5-4 lead with a 3-run homerun over the Monster in left field. Another old foe in Lance Berkman gave the Red Sox the Red Sox a 2 run lead with his 21st homerun of the season. The Pirates tried to rally in the 8th inning with a solo homerun by Fontenot and the run would be regained by Victor Martinez going deep to give the Red Sox the 7-5 lead which would be held down by Papelbon.

Pirates Call Up Zagurski, Option Pignatiello To AAA
Image

The Pirates traded LHP Mike Zagurski and SS Brian Bixler a few weeks ago hoping he could be used if Pignatiello breaks down and now he gets his chance. Pignatiello had an 8.70 ERA so far this season. Zagurski's could be very useful along with Joe Beimel to get lefties out. Zagurski will work mainly with his slider with fastballs mixed in, his slider being very good.

I was going to suggest a trade for Great Paulino (Reds) instead of picking up a guy luke Cruz, but it's year four. How has G.Paulino performed over the past two or three years? He's a favorite Yr 1 trade target of mine due to his of age, salary and rare Fastball Life & Spin combo. Plus, he's an easy acquisition.

I think he's Homer Bailey in real life so I think thats what I made his name for season
he has a career 3.83 ERA in 511 career innings
but he's 31 years old...

I'll see by the deadline next month, especially if I get another injruy

Sanchez Helps Pirates End Month On Good Note

June 30 -- The Pirates were 1-5 in their last 6 games coming into today and were close to losing 3 of 4 to the Reds at home but Anibal Sanchez came through again. This was a great pitchers duel with a combined 11 hits in the game with no player with more than 1 hit in this game. The Pirates scored their two runs with a 1st inning homerun by Jayson Werth, his 10th of June and later Susumu Ikari would homer in the 7th inning to make it 2-0 against Owings who pitched well. The Reds started to rally in the 8th inning with a sacrifice fly by Scott Rolen but that was all they could muster in 8 inning from the 2010 Cy Young. Street continued his great pitching in June with his 21st save which would help him win the Relief Pitcher of the Month.
