St.Louis Cardinals(41-41) @ Kansas City Royals(30-52)
June 28th, 2008- The Cardinals dropped game 2 of a series in Kansas City, on a day when the offense really struggled to get something going. Familiar story, right? Both teams were held silent for the first 5 innings, but in the 6th the Royals slapped a run onto the board with a Mark Grudzielanek RBI single. Pujols scored in the 7th for St.Louis, on a passed ball, tying the game at 1-1. Back-to-back doubles by Glaus then Duncan made it 2-1, Cardinals. But, the Royals came storming back in the bottom of the 7th, scoring 4 runs. John Buck and Mark Teahen both hit RBI doubles, and then Guillen capped off the inning with a 2 run homer to center. In the 8th, the Cardinals got 3 singles by Ludwick(the DH), Molina, and then an RBI for Izturis to make it 6-3. But Miles ended the rally with a double play, and there would be no more scoring. Besides the 8th and 7th, the Cardinals really had trouble getting something going with runners in scoring position. Although when they did, they brought the runners in. Grudzielanek was great for the Royals, going 4-4 with an RBI.

I agree.

although I would have liked for Brewer to have a better debut, it's only right that the Phils take the '08 title. after that, the Cards are welcome to win every year after. :-P

St.Louis Cardinals June Review
July 1st, 2008- Oof. June was not a good month for the Cardinals. Although if there is any good to come out of being 2 games below .500, at 41-43, they are only 2 games back of first, but currently sitting in 5th place. The NL Central has turned into a mess over the past month, and every team is in the race, with the Cubs being farthest back at only 5.5 games. There is a new division leader almost every day. So, let's look at these tight standings.

Pirates- 43-41; ...
Astros- 42-41; .5 GB
Reds- 42-43; 1.5 GB
Brewers- 40-42; 2 GB
Cardinals- 41-43; 2 GB
Cubs- 37-46; 5.5 GB

For the month, the Cardinals were a lowly 9-18. But I guess it was a good month for it, as the Astros were 8-18, and the rest of the teams basically played the same. This created a tight, free-for-all race. As a team, the Cardinals pitching staff has the best ERA in the division, at 4.48. But, they also have the worst batting average at .263.

Carpenter's ERA of 2.72 is good for 2nd in the majors, and 1st in the NL! Let's hope he can keep those numbers steady, and then not ask to be paid too much for it at the end of they year. Isringhausen has remained as solid as can be at closer, and is now 19/19 on saves, still atop the major league standings. His ERA is hovering near 3.00. Pujols has dropped to 4th in the NL in homers, with 22. 22 is good to lead the team though, with Glaus(19) and Duncan(18) rounding out a very solid top 3. Although they are last in the Central in average, St.Louis does have 2 players batting .300 or more, with Pujols batting .318 and Glaus batting an even .300.

For rookie performances, Barton won rookie of the month again, although he was nothing spectacular, going .254 on the month, with 6 homers and 13 RBI's. His power is back to his April level, but the average is still low. Rookie pitcher Brewer, a mid-season call-up, has excelled in his time at the big league level. In 3 starts, and a total of 20 innings, he is 1-1 with 1.31 ERA and 17 K's. He has been a very solid addition to the rotation, along with trade acquisition Zach Duke, who is 8-4 with a 3.23 ERA.

Looking ahead, the All-Star game is in July, on the 15th. Let's hope some Cardinals get recognized to represent us at Yankee Stadium. Also, the trade deadline is July 31st. We'll have to see if the Cardinals look to improve their offense for a playoff push. Better luck to them in July!

What an exciting division race! Are all the teams mediocre, or do they just keep splitting series amongst each other?

Eh, not totally sure, but I think it's because the teams are pretty evenly matched. I've been playing pretty tight with the Brewers and Astros, but we've been beating the Pirates for the most part. (In sims, of course). On the other hand, the Reds are beating us for the most part. We swept the Cubs in our only series against them.

That stuff is kinda me guessing though. Maybe I'll post our record against the division teams at the All-Star break, along with teams stats and MLB standings. :)

Yay us! We're in first place right now. We're 49-45, and in first place. Talk about a weak division.

St.Louis Cardinals(50-45) @ Pittsburgh Pirates(47-47)
July 12th, 2008- St.Louis notched their 5th win in a row, taking down the Pirates 5-2. Brewer took the mound for the Cardinals, and pitched well. He squared off against another rookie pitcher, Ransom, for the Pirates. The Cardinals scored right off the bat(pun), with Miles crossing home plate on a sac fly by Glaus in the 1st. Brewer gave up the first of Jose Bautista's 2 solo homers in the 2nd, tying the game 1-1. Molina came through with runners on second and third in the 4th inning, whacking a double and scoring both runners. Barton also hit an RBI double in the 5th, making it 4-1. In the bottom of the 5th, Bautista went deep again, off of Brewer, who left the game after the 5th inning. In the 6th, right fielder Juan Encarnacion hit a frozen rope to left, down the line, which just barely cleared the fence for a solo homer making it 5-2. Isringhausen recorded his 22nd save of the year in the 9th. Also, the Cardinals are now sitting atop the NL Central! They will play one more game in Pittsburgh, tomorrow, then the All-Star game will be on the 15th. Carpenter, Isringhausen, Pujols, Glaus, and Duncan are all representing St.Louis at the game!
