NEW JERSEY EAGLES TRADE DEADLINE, TOP TRANSACTIONS, AND KEY ACQUISITIONS

Image

The trade deadline is upon us again. My favorite time of year (besides the playoffs and free agency) is about to pass, and while we're summing up this season, why not look back on our trades, as well as the other teams', and how each team has changed since the 2012 season.

Eagles 2015 Season Transactions

Eagles sign IF Rolls (Jan. 8 ) - Rolls is similar to Tony Cresse in that he has the fielding ability to be a starter right now but should improve hitting if he wants to be an above-average player. We sent him to the Astros for cash back in June because we have plenty of depth in the infield. He's hit .298 with 2 homers and 11 RBI for Houston, mostly as a defensive replacement.

Eagles acquire C Castellan from Rangers (May 29) - Though we had a good amount of catchers, I had my eye on this kid for a while. I got him anyway even though we didn't need him, only to trade him to Tampa Bay later in the trade for Evan Longoria. Not long after, he was released by the Rays. He's a starting-caliber C for most teams, and I'm kinda surprised no one has grabbed him yet. We could pick him up in the future if we need some catching depth.

Eagles sign P Jeroloman (Jun. 8th) - Jeroloman (93/F/C, CUT (3), CB (3), FORK (1)) was a minor-league sign but likely wouldn't have a shot on the team. I took a chance on him after he pitched well with Detroit. We had him on the AAA roster but released him shortly after.

Eagles sign P Soria (Jun. 12) - Joakim Soria had been on the team in previous years but we ended up getting rid of him after a poor performance. Grabbing him off the FA market on June 12 paid off big-time for us. He's compiled a 1.84 ERA this season in middle relief.

Eagles sign P Chamberlain (Jun. 12) - When we were looking for young, inexpensive players to grow with the team, Joba was atop the list for pitching. We saw him as a future closer or set-up man, but he struggled. He was on and off the team but we got him back on the same day as Joakim Soria. Soria panned out a lot better than him, however, and Joba was again sent packing. On July 25th he was part of the package that got us Jonny Venters.

Eagles sign OF Jeff Francoeur (Jun. 12) - Frenchy was available in FA around draft time and I saw him as a possible bench piece with his strong arm and power. He lasted about two weeks before we traded him to Houston for cash. In his time there, he has a .300/9/36 batting line.

Eagles draft OF Price (Jun. 12) - Price was our 1st round draft pick at 32 overall. He's not too great a hitter but has some power and decent fielding. Since we have lots of outfielders, I decided to cut him. On the 23rd of July, the Pirates got him, and stuck him in the minors. He has decent potential at only 24, but he's not somebody I'll miss, quite frankly.

Eagles acquire P Haynes for P Parnell, SS Cozart, P Broxton (Jul. 11) - Haynes was the Royals top draft pick much like Cole Stewart who I figured could fit into the rotation sooner or later. At this point he has a 6.75 ERA, but I don't regret trading from an area of depth. Cozart has managed just a .244 batting average with 3 RBIs, while both Broxton and Parnell have ERA's over 4 as KC's set-up men. In hindsight this might end up being a bad trade for us, but I trust Haynes will turn out well.

Eagles acquire 3B Longoria for C Castellan, P Doolittle, and P Eldridge (Jul. 18) - Longo is one of the top hitters in the bigs, and it only took a backup catcher and two relievers to grab him.

Sorry Andrew, I won this one.

I had kept Doolittle and Eldridge for so long as depth, and I was looking to get something for them instead of letting them sit in AAA. Eldridge simply couldn't get it done in the majors, even though he had a good fastball and great stuff. Doolittle only saw time as a lefty specialist and wasn't overly impressive. To get Longoria for mostly depth was outstanding. He's stuffed the stat sheet this season: .299, 22 HR, 81 RBI.

Eagles acquire P Jonny Venters from M's for P Chamberlain, IF Cesar, and P H. Bailey (Jul. 25) - Venters has been a solid contributor as mostly a MR for the team (1.99 ERA). Chamberlain wasn't doing good, and both Bailey and Masters were sitting in AAA as a few of the many pitchers down there. I was hoping to get rid of them for one good player and we received one in Venters. Meanwhile, Joba has a 3.31 ERA as their SU, and Bailey could be a SP for them. Cesar was only a backup here and has hit .273 for Seattle. No regrets here.

Eagles acquire SS Cresse from Astros for 3B Josh Fields (Jul. 28) - Fields was a minor league signing of ours and I wanted to get something for him. Cresse is a solid fielder who could become pretty good if he improves his hitting. Not a bad piece for Fields, who probably wouldn't have had a role on the team anyway.

Eagles sign P Janssen, 3B Barker (Jul. 31)- We just recently grabbed these two as free agents. I'm not sure if they'll see any time besides in September, and they could become trade bait later.

Eagles trade P Peavy, OF Crozier to Marlins for cash (Jun. 8th) - Peavy was a FA signing who had a large contract attached to him, while Crozier simply didn't contribute when he played in the majors. We received a nice sum of dollars from Miami in return. Peavy has struggled to a 4.95 ERA as a SP, and Crozier has batted .263 with just 1 HR and 4 runs batted in.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Top Trades

OF Ichiro (NYY) for P Matsuzaka (DET)

P Lester (ARI) for P Mattison (CHW)

2B Utley (LAD) for P J. Weaver (LAA)

P Hanrahan (MIA) for P Niese (LAA)

P Mathieson, P Hamels, P Papelbon (PHI) for P Keller (OAK)

P J. Garcia (STL) for P M.Harrison (TEX)

OF Bourn (ATL) for SS Y. Escobar (TOR)

IF Vizquel (ATL) for P F. Rodriguez (CHW)

1B/OF Moss, P I. Kennedy, C Kottaras (OAK) for IF Sutton (PIT)

P B. Wilson (MIL) for OF Peguero (TEX)

P M. Rivera (SEA) for P Happ (CIN)

2B Cano (NYY) for OF J. Upton (ARI)

OF Gardner (NYY) for 2B A. Hill (ARI)

I may or may not add my opinion to these trades later.
------------------------------------------------------
Key Acquistions/Roster Outlooks

Indians - Since 2012, the Indians rotation looks pretty much the same, except for Adam Wainwright. He has a 6.60 ERA as their best pitcher besides Ubaldo. Their bullpen hasn't changed much, except Chris Perez is gone. Asdrubal Cabrera and Shin-Soo Choo as well as Jason Kipnis and Carlos Santana remain their core hitters.

Tigers - Detroit recently landed ace C.C. Sabathia in free agency for only 5300PP, yet he maintains a 5.32 ERA so far. Justin Verlander, Miggy, and Prince are still on the roster as well as J.J. Hardy, V-Mart, and AJax, while no one else stands out on their pitching staff.

Twins - Justin Morneau and Joe Mauer continue to lead the offense, along with speedster Denard Span, so not much has changed. Their pitching hasn't improved, with their only new addition being John Danks (95/D/A, 6.34 ERA).

White Sox - Chicago has got some pitching since 2012, with the main adds being Matt Harvey, Jon Lester, and Huston Street. The batters still include A.J. Pierzynski, Alex Rios, Youk, Adam Dunn, Alexei, as well as newly-acquired Omar Vizquel.

Royals - KC was rebuilding into 2012, but they've changed their ways, instead adding good veterans. Josh Johnson of Miami, the Padres' Clayton Richard, the Rockies' Michael Cuddyer, Atlanta's Brandon Beachy, reliever Wilton Lopez of the Astros, Oakland's Josh Willingham, and the Braves' Brian McCann lead the long list of acquisitions. Youngsters Mike Moustakas, Eric Hosmer, Alcides Escobar, and Alex Gordon are still around also.

Mariners - Seattle's main pieces now include Dillon Gee (whom we traded to them), Franklin Gutierrez, Cory Luebke, Kyle Seager, Jason Vargas, Jesus Montero, Kris Medlen, Joba Chamberlain, and Homer Bailey, among others. Lots of young talent who have to put it together.

Angels - Albert Pujols, Carl Crawford, Rafael Furcal, Chase Utley, Kendrys Morales, Chris Iannetta, Peter Bourjos, Todd Frazier and Mark Trumbo make up this potent offense. After trading away ace Jered Weaver, Carlos Zambrano, C.J. Wilson, Carl Pavano, Dan Haren, Joel Hanrahan, Andrew Bailey, Bobby Parnell, and Ernesto Frieri are among LA's pitching.

A's - In the blockbuster trade with the Phillies, the A's got back ace Cole Hamels and shut-down closer Jonathan Papelbon. Those two are their top pitchers followed by Brett Anderson, Brad Lincoln, Sergio Romo, Grant Balfour, and Brandon McCarthy, in no order. Meanwhile, their hitters include Coco Crisp, star SS Jose Reyes, Yoenis Cespedes, and Josh Reddick.

Rangers - Texas's offense is still lead by star OF Josh Hamilton. Behind him is veterans Michael Young and Nelson Cruz and youngsters SS Elvis Andrus, Mitch Moreland, and Geo Soto. The pitching has added some young talent in Edwin Jackson, Jaime Garcia, and Tommy Hanson to go along with Alexi Ogando, Yu Darvish, Ryan Dempster, Colby Lewis, Derek Holland, and Mark Lowe.

Marlins - Miami's move from Florida was the first of a lot of changes for South Beach's team. Jake Peavy, Jayson Werth, Matt Holliday, and Jhonny Peralta have joined Logan Morrison, Ricky Nolasco, Mike/Giancarlo Stanton, Emilio Bonifacio, Steve Cishek, and Carlos Lee as the Marlins' main talents.

Mets - Johan Santana, David Wright, Jason Bay, Seth Smith, Chase Headley, Kirk Nieuwenheis, R.A. Dickey, and Ike Davis is the combination of players you'll notice most on the Mets. Other components are SP Ricky Dinas, Scott Hairston, Brett Wallace, Chris Young (SP), Ramon Ramirez, and Brandon Lyon.

Phillies - The Keller/Hamels trade certainly changed the complexion of Philadelphia's baseball team. Core players like Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, Carlos Ruiz remain, however. Around them is mostly younger players including Rick Porcello, Mike Stutes, Antonio Bastardo, Michael Schwimer, David Phelps, Kyle Kendrick, Andy Dirks, Nate Schierholtz, John Mayberry Jr., Darin Ruf, and Dom Brown. It's them as well as vets Juan Pierre, Cody Ross, A.J. Burnett, Scott Baker, and Shaun Marcum.

Braves - Both Roy Halladay and Yunel Escobar jumped ship from their respective teams to join Atlanta as the Braves' top gains. They've also brought in Mike Napoli, Ervin Santana, Brendan Ryan, Raul Ibanez, and KRod. Their prime guys are still Freddie Freeman, Martin Prado, Craig Kimbrel, and Tim Hudson.

Nationals - Washington is still heavy in pitching with Gio Gonzalez, Zack Greinke, Brandon League, Chien-Ming Wang, Ross Detwiler, Stephen Strasburg, and Joe Nathan. Their offense is similar to the 2012 team: Kurt Suzuki, Mike Morse, Bryce Harper, and Wilson Ramos, but now infielders Stephen Drew and Ryan Theriot are in tow.

Astros - Boy, is this team a mess. Their pitching contains Hisashi Iwakuma, Rich Harden, Kyle Weiland, Ryan Madson, Fernando Abad, Jordan Norberto, Bud Norris, and Tim Stauffer. Their hitting is comprised of Endy Chavez, Sean Rodriguez, Jeff Francoeur, J.D. Martinez, Matt Downs, Justin Maxwell, David Ortiz, and Jason Castro.

Cubs - Anthony Rizzo, Starlin Castro, Alfonso Soriano, and Darwin Barney are the main holdovers from their 2012 club. Now playing in Wrigley Field as Chicago's notable additions include Bobby Abreu, Fernando Rodney, Torii Hunter, and Wandy Rodriguez. The lovable losers continue to look mediocre, at least in my eyes.

Pirates - Pedro Alvarez, Ian Kennedy, Andrew McCutchen, Mark Reynolds, and Aaron Crow mostly make up Pittsburgh's young core that surprisingly reached the playoffs. Jeff Karstens, Travis Snider, Dallas Braden, Chad Sisco, Brandon Crawford, James McDonald, and Marlon Byrd are some complementary pieces for the Pirates.

Brewers - The Brew Crew is headed by Aramis Ramirez, Kyle Lohse, Dan Uggla, Brandon Morrow, Yovani Gallardo, Ryan Braun, Brian Wilson, and Corey Hart. Norichika Aoki, "T-Plush", David Ross, Jorge De La Rosa, Charlie Furbush, Scott Downs, and Mat Gamel are other components for Milwaukee.

Cardinals - Carlos Beltran, David Freese, Matt Carpenter, Allen Craig, Jon Jay, Yadier Molina, Chris Carpenter, and Edward Mujica are familiar faces on the Cards. The Redbirds have since collected Edinson Volquez, Grady Sizemore, and Matt Harrison, but that's about it. Otherwise St. Louis has stayed pretty much the same.

Reds - Adrian Beltre, Dustin Pedroia, former Eagle Corey Braun, David Robertson, import Yukio Takada, Heath Bell, Brian Roberts, Mariano Rivera, Lance Berkman, and Chipper Jones are included in the huge list of splashes by the Reds in recent years. Alongisde them are cornerstones Joey Votto, Jay Bruce, Drew Stubbs, Mike Leake, and Bronson Arroyo. However, despite their aggressiveness and a talented roster, Cincinnati failed to make the playoffs this year.

Rockies - Jeff Francis, Tyler Colvin, Juan Nicasio, CarGo, Wilin Rosario, Matt Belisle, Tulo, Dexter Fowler, Todd Helton, Rafael Betancourt, and Jason Giambi have stuck around in Colorado. The cool air of Coors Field now hosts Carlos Villanueva, Chone Figgins, Paul Maholm, Jonathan Sanchez and Jonathan Lucroy, among others.

Diamondbacks - Mark Ellis, Rafael Soriano, Matt Garza, Brett Gardner, John Lackey, Franklin Morales, and Robinson Cano have arrived in the desert. Arizona has kept Paul Goldschmidt, Wade Miley, Miguel Montero, Chris Johnson, Jason Kubel, and Gerardo Parra.

Padres - Luke Gregerson, David DeJesus, Ivan Nova, Carlos Quentin, Wade Davis, Rickie Weeks, Chien-Ming Wang, Will Venable, Nick Hundley, Cameron Maybin, Everth Cabrera, and Placido Polanco are the headliners for the Friars.

Dodgers - Aaron Harang, Chad Billingsley, Joe Blanton, Chris Capuano, Jered Weaver and Alfredo Aceves are LA's primary pitching options while Alex Gonzalez, Matt Kemp, Shane Victorino, Andre Ethier, A-Gon, Howie Kendrick, Hanley, and Paul Konerko are the Dodgers' important hitters.

Giants - Brandon Belt, Jed Lowrie, Pablo Sandoval, Buster Posey, Aubrey Huff, and Melky Cabrera are the remarkable sluggers on an average offense. Their rotation remains the same - Barry Zito, Madison Bumgarner, Ryan Vogelsong, Matt Cain, and Tim Lincecum, while the bullpen doesn't stand out.

Blue Jays - Michael Bourn, Brett Lawrie, Kelly Johnson, Jose Bautista, Travis Hafner, J.P. Arencibia, Colby Rasmus, and Scott Rolen lead Toronto on the batting side. Their predominant hurlers are Ricky Romero, Mike Pelfrey, Jason Frasor, Jesse Litsch, Evan Crawford, and some others. Pitching probably brings the Blue Jays down because the offense is quite formidable.

Red Sox - Salty, Jacoby Ellsbury, James Loney, Mark Melancon, Daniel Bard, Clay Buchholz, Garrett Jones, and Johnny Cueto are Boston's premier players. After the huge trade that sent Carl Crawford and A-Gon out, they've landed in the cellar (60 GB in the AL East this season).

Rays - Eric Hernandez, Jeremy Hellickson, Drew Eldridge, James Shields, Jose Valverde, David Price, Jake McGee, Sean Doolittle, Chris Perez, Kyle Farnsworth are Tampa Bay's significant pitchers. On the other hand, Ben Zobrist, Matt Joyce, Carlos Pena, Desmond Jennings, Luke Scott, and B.J. Upton are the Rays' top hitters.

Yankees - Russell Martin, Aaron Hill, Justin Upton, Mark Teixeira, Ian Kinsler, Nick Swisher, Curtis Granderson, Orlando Hudson, Jason Heyward, and A-Rod are all a part of New York's stacked offense. Phil Hughes, Jon Rauch, Andrew Cashner, Freddy Garcia, Dice-K, JJ Putz, Michael Pineda, Matt Thornton and Hiroki Kuroda are the Evil Empire's major pitchers.

Orioles - Neil Walker, Wei-Yin Chen, Jim Johnson, Matt Wieters, Nick Markakis, Angel Pagan, Danny Espinosa, Nolan Reimold, Adam Jones, Jake Arrieta, Daniel Murphy, Darren O'Day, and Jim Thome are among the most renowned guys on a particularly young team.

Appreciated, Liam.

Now the update has the big trades of this season along with our team's transactions. Each team's key acquisitions/roster outlooks could come tonight, then maybe I go into games tomorrow or something.

I plan on getting the Kings roster up sometime tonight too, Zero.

LAS VEGAS KINGS - THE WEST COAST EXPANSION TEAM

Image

Ah, the Kings. The team on the other side, you could say. They have had a tougher time than us adjusting to the MLB, for sure. I almost forgot to introduce them earlier. Like everyone else, they've traded players, drafted players, signed players, you know the deal. Let's look at how they are roster-wise right now. I won't go too in depth, but here ya go.

So yeah, they don't really have any hitters. But decent pitching I guess?

Yeah, you can tell their hitting doesn't support them nearly enough. Their best ERA is at 4.21.

Wow. Josh Beckett of all people has the worst ERA on the team.
