In the third Bay hit a two run bomb followed by Bautista and Olivo doubles to increase the lead to five, and slapping Jason Marquis for seven earned runs. That's... Almost the exact same thing I was going to do...

Except I'm just letting the players get signed, how would you possibly assign them anyway?

I already had the first 3 years of players planned. I was going to switch out one of them, I still might, but I can't get the player because AgentP's parents never leave the house for 5 minutes apparently.

This was an idea for when my log starts back up. I was going to make the league tougher. I'll probably do it anyway. When I stop being lazy and get my log going.

Pirates Overpower Cardinals Pitching

Baseballs were flying everywhere around the park today as the Pirates took on the Cardinals. In the first, Chris Duncan hit an RBI single, but the Pirates countered with Bay hitting an RBI single of his own. In the second, the Cards broke through for two more runs, but the Pirates got one of their own, a single by the pitcher down the right field line to bring home Olivo. The Pirates then tied the game in the fifth with a solo shot by Bay, and took the lead in the sixth with another solo shot, this time by Nady, and then extended it with a triple by Wilson. No more runs were scored and Capps was able to come in and pitch a perfect ninth. The Bucs had a great day with the lumber, getting eight extra-base hits, and thirteen of their outs were fly balls to the outfield. "This team is just getting started." said new catcher Miguel Olivo. "Our pitching has been lights out. All we need is for us fielders to play this way more consistently, and we could be serious contenders for the playoffs." While Olivo exaggerated a bit saying they could be serious contenders, if the Pirates hitting can continue this pace, they could have their first winning season since 1992.

April 28, 2008

Capps Blows Another Lead

Another day, another blown save by Capps it seems. Things were going fine for the Pirates, who scored had scored three runs in the first two innings. After the Mets came back to tie it in the fourth with a homer by Carlos Beltran, Nady answerd back when he hit a two run shot in the fifth, his thrid of the season, and then tacked on another RBI in the eighth to give the Pirates a three run lead. In the ninth, Capps gave up hits to Moises Alou and Ryan Church before Brian Schneider hit an RBI double to score Alou. After a visit to the mound by the pitching coach, the opposing pitcher hit a single, scoring Church. Despite getting Jose Reyes to pop up, Capps was pulled and Soria was sent in. After striking out the first batter, he misplaced a fastball, and David Wright smoked it to center for a game winning hit. When asked by reporters what had happened, Capps yelled "*(censored)* off!", and then threw a chair across the clubhouse, almost hitting their GM Cooper Thompson!

I had Matt Capps on a team way back when and I had the same problem, he couldn't hold a lead.
