August in Review

The Royals had a great month of August, going 16-9 with 110 runs scored and 82 runs allowed. 110 ties May for the most runs scored in a month this year for the Royals. They officially have a winning record for the year as they are now 82-52 overall with the best record in the majors. They are also down to a magic number of 20 going into September. The Royals probably wouldn't be where they are without a big bat in their lineup by the name of Nick Johnson. So far this season, the Royals first baseman has a .298 batting average with 25 home runs, and 98 RBI. Another Royals star is David DeJesus who has cracked 50 stolen bases on the season and has 51 going into September. In pitching, Royals closer Joakim Soria has seemed to figure it out and had a stellar month of August. He converted 9 saves with a 1.29 ERA as he wins Relief Pitcher of the Month honors and lowers his season ERA down to 3.43 with a total of 38 saves. Kelvim Escobar with his 14-4 record is third in the majors in wins with his fourteen behind Jamie Moyer of the Phillies and Aaron Harang of the Yankees. August was a great month for the Royals, and they hope to roll right on into the postseason after September in chase of a World Series title.

September Call-Ups

The time has come once again to call up those youngsters from the farm system. For 2011, the Royals will be calling up nine players from Triple-A. For pitchers, they will be calling up Ramon Ramirez, Luke Hudson, Ryan Braun, and Jesse Carlson. The lone catcher call-up will be Matt Tupman. Ryan Shealy, Alberto Callaspo, and Tony Pena are their three infield call-ups, and the only outfielder to come up will be Justin Ruggiano.
