Ok, so I kinda sorta just read all the updates in this log and I had one question. Who's genius idea was it to make the Sacramento team, a landlocked city, the Dolphins? But the storytelling is 10 outta 10

It is a genius idea, thanks for backing us up.

September 1st, 2015

Ah, September. The time of year where baseball really gets interesting. Of course, that means September call-ups. The following players have been promoted to help us with our playoff push.

LHP Brian Bridges
93, E, C, SLD(3), CB(3), KN(2)
22-year old Brian Bridges is an extremely exciting young prospect we drafted in June. In 13 starts with Pasadena, he's posted a 2.76 ERA and struck out 75 in 88.0 innings. He'll be used as a long reliever and possible spot starter.

RHP Paul Casey
91, C, D, CB(3), CHG(3), Poker Face
Now there's a familiar, stoic face. Casey was rocked for a 6.95 ERA in 22.0 innings early in the season. He's been working on his stuff in AAA with modest success, posting a 3.58 ERA. He should be most useful as a long reliever and mop up man.

SS Javier Soriano
2, F, F, D, C, C, D, Barehand CTH, Breakup DP, Pr Rain
Soriano, a 28-year old rookie, has bounced around AAA teams for four years now. He made one start for us last month and went 0 for 4. He's up solely as an emergency option at shortstop.

LF/RF Jeremy Johnson
3, E, E, E, D, D, E, Bases Clearer
Talented but raw, the recently-turned-21-year-old projects to be a good power hitter at some stage in his career. He slashed .278/.319/.425 in AAA this year with 13 home runs. He's going to get some opportunities to pinch hit as a righty off the bench.

RF Roy Schapp
3, E, C, D, D, E, D, Gd Morale, Pull Hitter
Another guy who started the year in the majors, Schapp has good power but pulls the ball too much. He hit .156 with two home runs with us earlier, and while working on his swing with Pasadena batted .258/.311/.453.

With some new, exciting young players among us, it's time to buckle down and secure our spot in the playoffs!

Toronto Blue Jays (63-71) vs. Honolulu Gunmen (79-55)
September 1st-3rd

As if the schedule hasn't been bizarre enough already this season, we're starting a 19-game home stand.

Key Players:

Roy Halladay - SP
11-8, 4.55 ERA, 156.1 IP, 136 K, 1.35 WHIP
95, B, A, 2SFB(2), CUT(4), CB(5), CHG(4), H-SNK(2), w/RISP 4, Poise 4, Fastball Life 4, Spin 4, Consistency 4, Release 2, Slow Starter, Star
Bio: "Doc" is the cornerstone of this Blue Jays franchise.
Analysis: Halladay's mediocre season continues.

A.J. Burnett - SP
8-5, 4.63 ERA, 155.2 IP, 139 K, 1.55 WHIP
98, D, A, KNCB(5), CHG(4), H-SNK(4), Spin 4, Safe Pitch, Dr. K, Fastball Life 2, Choke Artist, Star
Bio: He's no Doc, but the 31-year old Burnett is a good pitcher.
Analysis: He dominated us last time out and is due to pitch game three.

Scott Rolen - 3B
.326/.389/.511, 14 HR, 77 RBI
2, D, C, D, B, A, B, Hot Hitter, Consistency 4, Barehand CTH, Tough Runner, Gd Rain, VS Lefty 2, Cautious STL, Aggressive FLD, Gd Eye
Bio: Rolen is known as one of the best defensive third baseman in the game, and he's not shabby at the plate either.
Analysis: Rolen is hitting like he used to on the Cardinals. We'll have to watch out for him.

Projected Pitching Match-ups:

Game 1
Cesario Castillo (7-8, 3.41) vs. Jesse Carlson (1-2, 5.82)

Carlson isn't much of a starter. In fact, he only throws two pitches, an upper 80s fastball, and a slider. He's a lefty, so Danny Millwood will be starting in left and batting second over Marcus McElroy.

Game 2
Brendan Bikowski (10-4, 3.66) vs. Tim Lincecum (5-6, 6.60)

Terrible stats aside, Lincecum is one hell of a pitcher for his age. Once he figures things out, he could be an ace.

Game 3
Charlie Huff (11-4, 3.39) vs. A.J. Burnett (8-5, 4.63)

Burnett absolutely killed us last time out; hopefully things are a little different this time.

Yeah, they're a pretty good team on paper, but even their best two starters are struggling.

Toronto Blue Jays (63-71) vs. Honolulu Gunmen (79-55)

Final Score:
Toronto Blue Jays - 6

It was a pretty tight game until the Jays put up four in the top of the ninth. Danny Millwood homered in the bottom half but that wasn't even close to enough.

Roy Schapp got the start in right field, but he went 0 for 3 with two strikeouts.

Toronto Blue Jays (64-71) vs. Honolulu Gunmen (79-56)

Final Score(13):
Toronto Blue Jays - 6

This one was a real nail biter for both sides. It was only 1-1 after nine, but the Blue Jays put up two runs in the top of the twelfth. We promptly answered back with a four hit, two run inning before Evan Lorrier and Adam Wilson let in a combined three runs in the 13th, putting the game effectively out of reach.

One silver lining to the loss was that Brendan Bikowski seemed to get back on track with eight strong innings.

Los Angeles Angels (66-71) vs. Honolulu Gunmen (79-58)
September 4th to 7th

Well, this is a team we'll be seeing a lot of. Twelve more games against them. They've already taken seven of ten against us this year, including three of four just last week.

Key Players:

Francisco Rodriguez - CP
2.45 ERA, 44.0 IP, 44 K, 24/27 SV
97, C, E, SLD(5), CB(5), CHG(2), Poise 4, Spin 4, Recovery 4, Dr. K, Intimidator, Star
Bio: "K-Rod" is one of the best closers in the game, and also one of the most feared.
Analysis: We actually hit him around a bit last weekend, but we can't count on that to happen again.

Torii Hunter - CF
.268/.334/.419, 15 HR, 57 RBI
3, D, B, D, B, A, C, Gd IF HTR, Throwing 4, Consistency 4, Spider Catch, HD 1st Slide, Timely Whiff, Stealing 2, Pr Rain, Aggressive FLD
Bio: Torii Hunter, at age 33, is a perennial Gold Glove candidate who still hits the ball pretty well. Expect very few cheap singles to center, and precisely zero triples from the Gunmen offense.
Analysis: Hunter is having a good season and is one of LA's most valuable players.

Raul Alcarez - RF
.242/.314/.441, 26 HR, 98 RBI
3, B, B, D, C, D, B, Clutch Hit 5, Hot Hitter, Tough Out, Gd IF HTR, Rally Hitter, Throwing 2, Durability 2, Star
Bio: The 32-year old Raul Alcarez has been one of the most popular players in Los Angeles throughout his entire big league career. Perhaps he isn't the most graceful, as his proneness to injuries show, but he certainly holds his own at the plate and always seems to come through when it matters.
Analysis: He pounded two home runs against us in our last series.

Projected Pitching Match-ups:

Game 1
Akinori Otsuka (11-6, 3.40) vs. Kelvim Escobar (11-11, 5.25)

Escobar has been a solid pitcher for the Angels over the last five seasons, amassing 54 wins, but he's having a rough year. He throws a mid-90s fastball and complements it mainly with a curveball and change-up while mixing in a splitter and a slider.

Game 2
Johnny Rivera (4-7, 3.40) vs. Scott Mathieson (11-3, 3.23)

24-year old Mathieson is having a breakout campaign and sports an excellent W-L record as a result. His fastball can reach 98, and he throws a decent change-up and slider.

Game 3
Brian Bridges (0-0, 0.00) vs. Alejandro Murillo (0-0, 0.00)

A battle of rookies will take place in game three as Michael Davis is skipped in the rotation in part due to shoulder soreness and in part due to his recent struggles. Murillo is a lefty who sits 92-93 with his fastball and has a respectable slider. Bridges, also a lefty, has the disadvantage on fastball speed, as he usually throws 90-91, but mixes in three plus breaking pitches: a slider, a curve, and a knuckler.

Game 4
Cesario Castillo (7-9, 3.37) vs. John Lackey (9-11, 4.71)

Lackey utterly dominated us last time we faced him. He has good off-speed pitches and control to go along with his average fastball.
