Ok, I'm trying something new with my baseball video games. I currently have 3 files that I want to play regularly. I have this Royals season mode file and Rockies season mode file in MLB Power Pros, as well as a Cubs Dynasty file in MVP Baseball 2005. To try to get equal playing time with these three files, I am going to rotate, and play a month's worth of games in one, then go to the next one. I finished a month in my Rockies season mode, and just finished a month in my Cubs dynasty, so now it's time for the Royals. I might play two months with the Royals since I don't play every single game like I do with my Cubs dynasty and Rockies season mode.

May in Review

The Royals continue to do well this season after a solid month of May. They went 17-11 in the month and are now 33-22 overall for the season. They are four games up on the Indians who are in second place, and every other team in the division is six games back. The team improved their runs scored from 95 in April to 110 in May, but also gave up more runs in May jumping from 72 in April to 100. Kelvim Escobar continues his dominance, now 8-0 with an ERA of 1.17 and 93 strikeouts. Joakim Soria now has 17 saves and leads the majors, two more than Phillies closer Francisco Rodriguez. David DeJesus is now leading the team in hitting with a batting average of .314. He also is leading the majors in stolen bases with 25. May has been a good month, and the Royals hope to pull away from the rest of the division as the season progresses.

Kansas City Royals (34-23) @ Boston Red Sox (33-24)
June 3, 2011

BOSTON -- The Royals won today, escaping a late inning potential disaster. Khalil Greene got the scoring started in the top of the second with a solo home run, but Manny Ramirez retaliated in the bottom of the inning with his own solo blast. Then in the fifth, Felipe Lopez pulled a bullet down the left field line that was just high enough to go over the monster and barely fair for a home run to go up by one. Then the Royals pulled away in the eighth with three runs. Mark Teahen hit an RBI double, and was followed by Nick Johnson with a two-run homer to dead center. Then trouble started for the Royals in the bottom of the ninth. Leo Nunez came in, and gave up a solo shot to Manny Ramirez to make it 5-2. Two batters later, he gave up another solo home run to Jason Varitek. Now a save opportunity, Joakim Soria came in, but he immediately gave up a solo home run to Kevin Youkilis, and Varitek and Youk go back-to-back and bring this game within one run. Luckily, he got the final out and the game was over.

Los Angeles Dodgers (35-26) @ Kansas City Royals (37-24)
June 8, 2011

KANSAS CITY -- The Royals lost to the Dodgers today after a tough seventh inning. The Royals jumped out nicely in the first with three runs. Mark Teahen hit an RBI double. Billy Butler brought home a run, and Alex Gordon got one in with a sacrifice fly. The Dodgers quickly jumped back in the second with an RBI groundout from Rafael Furcal and RBI double by Nomar Garciaparra. In the fifth, Rafael Furcal tied the game at three with an inside-the-park home run, but Chris Conti gave the Royals the lead again in the bottom of the inning with his own solo home run. Then, the trouble started for the Royals in the seventh. After base hits by Aaron Hill and Rafael Furcal to start the inning, there were runners on first and third with no outs. Then Nomar Garciaparra hit a line drive into right field for a base hit. Conti missed the ball and it rolled all the way to the wall. Pierre scored to tie it, but now so did Furcal to take the lead and Garciaparra got all the way to third base. Mike Sweeney followed him with an RBI double and the Dodgers won by two.

Draft 2011

The 2011 MLB First-Year Draft was held today, and despite getting the second to last pick, the Royals made good choices. They drafted two young pitchers with plenty of potential to one day make the majors. In the first round, they drafted right-handed pitcher Rico Oliveros. He is twenty-two years old and has three good breaking pitches, including a knuckleball. In the second round, the Royals drafted nineteen year old Daniel Barden. Barden is a left-handed pitcher with plenty of endurance. He doesn't have a great heater, but he has three good breaking pitcher to rely on. Another great year for the Royals who continue to grow younger each year.
