That's a pretty good pick at catcher.

I was actually surprised that such a good Catcher was even possible to get in the draft. Especially because he had 3 potential (rather than 1 or 2).

The Pitcher isn't that great, but he had 5 potential so he should be usable sooner or later.

I put Grindell in batting practice and Enochs in control practice.

Actually, could I take Grindell and Enochs as my clients?

June 27th:

Nashville Venom (29-49) at Cincinnati Reds (44-34)

The Venom found themselves decisively in last place in the majors before this game, that hasn't changed, but they have a slightly better record now after beating the Reds in a hard fought pitcher's duel. The Reds only run came in the first inning when Adam Dunn hit a huge solo home run for his 24th of the season. It looked like that would be all they would need as Arroyo threw 5 perfect innings, however, he fell apart in the 6th, allowing 4 hits and 2 runs to give the Venom a 2-1 lead they protected until the end.

Venom: 2
Reds: 1

Win: Stanley (4-5)
Save: Clontz (8)
Loss: Arroyo (5-5)
HR: Dunn (24)

Venom Box Score:

Reynolds: 1-4, RBI, K
Butron: 0-4
Roma: 1-4, RBI, K
Stults: 0-4

Tortorelo: 1-3, R, K
Rottino: 1-3, R
Stanley: 0-1
Trammell: 0-1
Tremie: 0-0
Clontz: 0-0

Stanley: 7 innings pitched, 7 hits, 1 run, 0 strikeouts, win
Tremie: 1 inning pitched, 0 hits, 0 runs, 0 strikeouts, hold
Clontz: 1 inning pitched, 1 hit, 0 runs, 0 strikeouts, save

I've just realized that because of a stupid oversight, this log has 4 players randomly edited into Rogue Galaxy characters because I was in the middle of making a team when I started it. Some of them may turn into regular starters or something, but I don't think any of them will become Superstars, so it could be worse...

I guess this game doesn't follow standard rules like "each team has 1 all-star"?

It seems that way, but some teams have All-Stars that really aren't that good. .260-.270 hitters that don't even have the Star ability.

The American League had no relief pitching in this year's All-Star Game. It looked like they could have won when they took a 3-0 lead off of an Ortiz home run in the bottom of the 5th inning, as their pitching was working really well. Once they started putting in their relievers, however, the whole game fell apart. They allowed 6 runs in the next 2 innings and the team's motivation was shot too badly by that to even consider mounting a comeback and took the 7-3 loss.

American League: 3
National League: 7

Win: Hensley
Loss: Marcum
HR: Ortiz, Utley, Beltran, Beltran, Teixeira

End of July:

The expansion teams, the Venom and the Wings, are just getting worse it seems. Neither one had a player from their team become an All-Star. None of them won any awards for July, and the teams now occupy the two last place spots in the MLB. The Venom being the worse of the two.

AL East:

1. Yankees, 55-51
1. Orioles, 55-51
3. Blue Jays, 53-53, 2 games behind
4. Red Sox, 52-54, 3 games behind
5. Rays, 51-55, 4 games behind
6. Venom, 42-64, 13 games behind

It looks like anyone except the Venom still have a chance in the AL East.
The Wings record is 44-62, 13 games behind in the AL West.

Player Stats:

Stanley: 3.65 ERA, 6-5 record, 86 strikeouts

August 5th:

Las Vegas Wings (46-63) at Nashville Venom (43-66)

A duel of the bottom two MLB teams that just recently joined set records in poor attendance. There were more empty seats than the schools during Summer vacation. Nashville's fans may wish they would have showed up at this game though, as the Venom picked up a rare win. They won 4-1 because of a rally for 3 runs in the 5th inning.

Wings: 1
Venom: 4

Win: McGlinchy (2-12)
Save: Clontz (13)
Loss: Fikac (2-7)

Roma is pleased that he is the triple crown leader on the team. Stanley is surprised that he got his ERA down to 3.65.

August 28th:

Nashville Venom (52-78) at Chicago White Sox (67-63)

The Venom's starting pitching in Hampson didn't have an answer to the White Sox sluggers in this game. As he gave up 8 runs in 4 innings including 3 home runs. The Venom couldn't come back from that, only scoring 2 runs off of a home run by Trammell to take an 8-2 loss.

Win: MacDougal (2-3)
Loss: Hampson (8-9)
HR: Swisher (35), Dye (25), Pierzynski (18), Trammell (11)

Venom Box Score:

Reynolds: 1-5
Butron: 1-5, K
Roma: 3-5, R
Trammell: 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, R
Stults: 1-4
Deardorff: 1-4

Tortolero: 0-4
Rottino: 2-4, K

Hampson: 4 innings pitched, 10 hits, 8 runs, 0 strikeouts, loss
Snead: 4 innings pitched, 1 hit, 0 runs, 1 strikeout

---

Hampson left the game with elbow pain, and will be placed on the DL, the injury is expected to take 17 days to heal.

In the mean time, the Venom have called up Antonio Menchaca to take the role of the 6th starter.
