Massives Wear Out Sox; Relief Pitching Almost Loses Game
April 17, 2008-The Massives won yet again today against the White Sox, but struggled again with their relief pitching, their biggest weak spot. Let's go through how it went down. The Massives scored in the 1st inning yet again, as Kennedy stole home as Gordon stole second. A perfectly executed double steal to make it 1-0, Massives. The 4th was a big inning for both teams, as the Massives scored 3 more runs on a Terry solo homer, and a LaRue 2 run shot to make it 4-0. A quick note: Rick LaRue has 7 homers and 17 RBI's already, and is batting .379. But back to the action. The Sox put their first runs on the board with a Konerko 2 run homer in the bottom half of the 4th to make it 4-2. In the 6th, Will Adams used his speed to stretch a long single into a double, while scoring Nishikawa and increasing the Memphis lead. In the bottom half, A.J. Pierzynski hit a sac fly to right field and scored another White Sox run, making the score 5-3. The Sox tied the game at 5 in the 7th on a Juan Uribe 2 run homer. The 9th proved to be another exciting inning, as Phillips jacked a homer to center, and Nishikawa got an RBI single to make it 8-5. Promising prospect Robby Monarch was brought in the game then. After giving up two singles without registering an out, Paul Konerko struck again with a double to right center. Monarch settled down after that though, and got 3 outs to seal the deal for the Massives, even though there were runners on 2nd and 3rd base. We talked to him after the game. "My job is to make sure we don't lose the game in the 9th inning. Did I do that today? Yes. It might not have been the prettiest, but I got the job done. That's what counts." Our next game we cover is on the 24th, in Detroit facing the Tigers. Stan Dynamo is making the start. Until then, see ya!
