Game 5 ALDS New York Yankees(2-2) @ Oakland Athletics(2-2)

In the deciding game of this ALDS, the Athletics had to face a tough lefty in Andy Pettite. He had his way with the Athletics hitters pretty much the whole game, allowing just 1 run. While the Yankees were able to get to Brett Myers via a Derek Jeter RBI double in the 5th, a Bobby Abreu homerun and Johnny Damon RBI in the 6th. The Yankees would go on to add another run in the 9th, as they took this game 4-1 and this series 3-2.

2008 Recap
The 2008 MLB has come to a close, and a dissapointing ending for the Oakland Atlhetics. A team who was not supposed to contend, but when they were still in contention at the beggining of July so the owner supported his team to go out and acquire some big time players. They added Anibal Sanchez, Chase Utley, Brett Myers, Tom Gordon, Felipe Lopez and Franquelis Osoria. These additions bolstered the team and they made a great run. They went 15-10 in september to hold onto the AL West crown, and earn a playoff birth. After taking a 2-1 game lead over the Yankees and heading home to Oakland, their chances at advancing looked pretty good. Then they ran into the buzsaw of the Yankees offense and Andy Pettite and unfortunately were eliminated from the playoffs.

Not sure yet. I think I want to at least attempt to do another season, but with work and going off to college in 3 weeks I don't know if I'd be able to finish it. If I end up doing another year, I'll probably play every 6th day, so I can pitch with all the pitchers. So to answer your question, no I don't believe it's done, I'm going to attempt another season but I may not be able to finish it.

Athletics make big splash in free agency
The Athletics signed two top flight pitchers in the first week of free agency. The inked closer Francisco Rodriguez to a 4 year 10040 point deal. They also inked new staff ace Jake Peavy to a 3 year 4760 point deal. In the second week, they signed Right Fielder Milton Bradley to a 2 year 3200 point deal, to hopefully solidify their outfield. They were never in on the two big free agents on the market, CC Sabathia, who resigned with the Atlanta Braves, or Mark Teixeira who left Cleveland for big money and the New York Yankees.

Stephen Drew, Chris Snyder traded to A's for Ryan Sweeney
The Diamondbacks offered a very inticing package to the Athletics for Ryan Sweeney. Although the A's were very high on Sweeney, they couldn't turn down this offer because they liked Stephen Drew a whole lot and Chris Snyder can be a nice backup to Kurt Suzuki. They now have a problem at SS though, as they have Felipe Lopez and Stephen Drew there and only one can start.

Eric Chavez shipped to Toronto for BJ Ryan
Eric Chavez was traded to the Blue Jays along with Jeff Fiorentino and Rob Bowen for relief pitcher BJ Ryan. Ryan is coming off a terrible year, his ERA in the mid 5's, but the Athletics hope he can bounce back and provide some nice relief towards the back of the bullpen. The Athletics will sure miss Chavez though, he had a decent offensive season last year, but he was amazing in the field. That is where the A's will miss him the most, but they really needed a good set up man. It is believed that Felipe Lopez will be moved to 3rd base to take over Chavez's spot.

great job on the Drew/Snyder deal, Snyder will help you out a lot. On the other hand, the Ryan deal is equally bad. Chavez is a little bit expensive, but he's an amazing defense player and is worth plenty more than Ryan. I can't believe you also had to include Fiorentino and Bowen.

I would have tried to trade Drew or Lopez for a relief pitcher such as Fernando Cabrera or Rafael Perez.

Thanks. When the Diamondbacks offered me Drew and Snyder I couldn't turn it down, Drew is a nice young SS who is a big upgrade over Lopez on D at short. I mean, I really wanted to keep Sweeney because he was D's in both hitting, and had great fielding(13 I believe), but outfielders are much easier to come by than young shortstops.

I'd agree with you on the Ryan deal that I probably should've kept Chavez because he'd provide a decent bat but great D. There wasn't anyone else I could get though, I went through team after team trying many offers for relievers(I even tried to get Cabrera and Perez but no dice) but no teams were biting, and I probably rushed into a decision because I didn't have someone I could put in the set up role. Looking back, I probably should've never made this deal and just resigned Keith Foulke and used him as my set up man, but hindsight is always 20/20 I guess(and I still may resign Foulke at some point because he's still sitting in FA pool and is only 1100 points, but his stamina did drop all the way to 31 over the offseason).

Alright, so I figured I'd post an update if anyone was wondering about this. I've conitnued playing, and continued writing down the games I played. But I haven't been able to post them because I am very busy getting ready to go off to college and I've been working a lot recently. I plan on posting the games at some point, but I'm not sure when. I'll probably end up finishing season 2 before I leave for college, and maybe when I have nothing to do up there I'll post the games. Thanks to anyone still checking in on this, sorry about the wait though.
