Honolulu Gunmen (41-33) vs. Sacramento Dolphins (45-29)
June 23rd-26th

A 4-game set against Greene's Dolphins... it would take a sweep, but we have a chance to tie them for first place in the West.

Key Players:

Sylvester Coddmeyer III - CF
.240, 11 HR, 36 RBI
4, C, A, C, D, D, D, VS Lefty 4, Power Hitter, Slugger
Bio: Coddmeyer is an incredible power hitter, and in his younger days was referred to as "The Kid Who Only Hit Homers". Now, at the age of 25 and after breaking several college records, he is ready to take on the Majors.
Analysis: Coddmeyer is struggling to get on base but has shown a decent amount of power in his debut.

Skeeter Miracle - DH
.292, 11 HR, 38 RBI
3, B, B, E, E, F, G, Spray Hitter, Hot Hitter, Tough Out, Error Prone, Slugger, Aggressive HTR
Bio: Though technically a first baseman, Miracle's fielding skills (or lack thereof) mean he'll never be anything more than a DH; however, he can still be a tremendous asset, even if it is just with his bat.
Analysis: Miracle is leading the Dolphins in batting average and is tied for the lead in home runs, proving his worth as a designated hitter.

Danny Walker - SS
.279, 9 HR, 35 RBI
3, C, C, D, B, B, B, Throwing 4, Gold Glover, Barehand CTH, Pivot Man
Bio: Walker is a solid hitter, but his real talent lies within his fielding. Experts say he'll be a gold glove candidate throughout his career, and his ability at shortstop is only overshadowed by veterans such as Adam Everett, Omar Vizquel, and David Eckstein.
Analysis: Walker has maintained steady production in the #2 spot on offense and has been all over the highlight reels for his defensive endeavors.

Koby Caplin - SP
7-3, 2.38 ERA, 87.0 IP, 90 K
97, C, A, 2SFB(1), CB(3), CHG(2), Fastball Life 4, Dr. K, Star
Bio: The hard throwing young righty is one of the most popular rookies in recent memory, thanks to both his fastball and winning personality.
Analysis: Caplin is competing hard with Brendan Bikowski to be the best rookie pitcher of 2015.

Projected Pitching Match-ups:

Game 1
Akinori Otsuka (4-3, 5.04) vs. Wally Morris (6-2, 4.91)

Game 2
Johnny Rivera (2-3, 3.86) vs. Eddie Cicotte (7-2, 3.50)

Game 3
Michael Davis (6-2, 3.42) vs. Jimmie Todd (6-4, 4.26)

Game 4
Cesario Castillo (4-7, 3.53) vs. Koby Caplin (7-3, 2.38)

Actually, if you win three out of four, you'll be 44-34, and they'll be 46-36, and you would be tied for first.

"Attention, we are now prepared for takeoff. Please fasten your seat belts."

I flipped open the book I'd brought and settled into my seat. We were headed to Philadelphia, about a five hour flight. I sat at the front of the plane, the players gathered mostly in the back. I'd just found my page when I felt someone plop into the seat next to me. I looked to my right.

"What are you doing?"
"I thought I'd move into first class," Claire replied.
"The entire plane is first class!"

She shrugged, and I sighed, returning to my book.

"Great win, huh?"

I stared at her blankly. "Yeah," I said, returning to my book.

"You got pretty excited down there when Medrano hit that single."

I sighed. "It was exciting."

"And McCarthy's home run. Wow! You know they said on the TV it went over 500 feet!"
"Yep."
"Only two games behind the Dolphins now."
"...Yep."

There was a moment of silence, but those never last long.

"Whatcha reading?"
"Tuesdays With Morrie. By Mitch Albom."
"What's it about?"
"Maybe if you let me read I could find out."
"Where'd you get it?"

I paused.

"It... was a gift."
"Ooohh, a gift? From who?"

I didn't say anything.

"A giiirrrlllll?"

I remained silent.

"Matty, you're blu-"
"My mother."
"What?"
"My mother gave it to me."
"Oh."

I pretended to read.

"So... there's no special lady in the life of Matt Weaver?"
"Go back to your seat."
"I'm just making conversation."

I held up the book. "I was supposed to read this ten years ago. I need to get going."
"Okay, okay."

Claire picked up her laptop and unbuckled, looking disappointed. I felt a twinge of guilt.

"We can get burgers in Philly. My treat."

Immediately she smiled, and I realized it had been an act. "You're the best, Matty!"
"Mr. Weaver."
"See you when we land!"

The door opened with a creak. Groggily, I mumbled into my pillow.

"The lasagna's not ready yet."

The sound of laughter shook me from my dreamlike state. I saw Claire standing in the doorway.

"Wake up, Matty. It's time for breakfast."
"What?"
"You promised me you'd buy me a burger in Philly."
I looked at the clock. "It's not even eight..."
"It's never too early for a burger! Come on!" She pulled a shirt from my suitcase and threw it at me. "Get dressed!"

Still not quite thinking clearly, I obeyed, pulling the shirt on over the t-shirt I had slept in.

"Wait, how did you get in here?"

Claire held up a room key between two fingers and smiled. "I told the front desk I lost my key."
"And they just gave you one?"
"Looks that way."

Twenty minutes later we were in the lobby, calling a cab.

"Where are we going, anyway?"
"A place downtown. They make burgers for breakfast. Sausage, bacon, eggs, all that kind of stuff."
"How do you find all these places?"
"I do my research."

By the time we sat down and ordered, my stomach was growling. Claire was talking about something or other when my phone buzzed. I slid it out of my pocket and saw I had a text message.

"Hey! I'm talking!"

I showed her the notification and her face brightened. "Open it!" I obliged.

Quote:
Mr. Weaver,

I don't know if you remember me, but we met in Honolulu about a month ago and when I mentioned I was a pitcher, you gave me your phone number and told me to keep in touch. Well, I thought I'd take you up on that offer to let you know that the Tommy John surgery went off without a hitch! It's only been about a month, and doctors are estimating an earliest possible return of next March, but I'm very excited that there weren't any complications. I can't wait to get back on the mound.

- Todd Bennett

"You should sign him!" said Claire.
"I've never even seen him pitch, and he's injured."
"But he's my friend! C'mon, as a personal favor? You do owe me after all."
"What could I possibly owe you for?"

I sent him a quick reply telling him thanks for the update and wishing him luck with his rehabilitation. I made a mental note to keep track of his progress.

The burgers came soon after that, and Claire's face lit up at the sight of them. I smiled watching her devour a massive first bite before getting started on my own.

Nice to see the Phils got some good players out of this expansion. Where's Chase at with Wise playing 2B? I also noticed Madson starting.

I made them some really good players, and I think I edited some real guys to be better too. Charlie Wise is an edited Chase Utley, so... nowhere.

Madson is a reliever but he's probably going to start because pitcher's don't recover in five days in this game.

so how did you choose who to edit? Hamels and Moyer stuck around, I'm sure Howard did too.

I generally took stars and edited them into fake stars. Rollins --> Jackson, Utley --> Wise, etc. J.P. Watson is actually an edited Ryan Howard, and they have another edited guy (first baseman Ramon Saurez, 4, E, B, F, E, E, D) who was edited from Pat Burrell but isn't good enough to be considered a "key player."

On another note I've noticed that since I edited a first baseman into a left fielder and vice versa, the Phillies failed to swap their positions, so Watson is starting at first and Saurez in left.
