For scrubs or average pitchers, i stick with the changeup, the curve, and/or the slider. If it's an ace or a good pitcher, I give like a fosh, or knuckler, or something in that area. I rarely use sinkers, and only for relievers. Shuutos are only for japanese players imo

I definitely don't get bogged down with that sort of thing. If I was going to add a change up, I'd probably go with a circle change or a palm ball. A level 2 palm ball is very effective. I also wouldn't limit a shuuto just to Japanese players. The fact is this is a video game interpretation, so every level 2 curve falls exactly the same, as does every level 2 slider. While we are at it, if you ever see a real slider on tv, it does have drop to it. I think a real life slider is probably a faster source in the video game.

Game 2: Country Bourgeois (90 DC CU – four, SL – two, CB – four, VS – one) at White Sox Vasquez (95 CA SL – two, CB – three, SP – one, CH – three)

Lineup: with Huisman and Towles reporting in purple condition, Harris starts at shortstop and bats seventh, with Erdos sliding from seven down to eight

Inning one: Hudson watched three pitches go by before Vasquez threw a one – two fastball right down the middle that Hudson singled into centerfield. Hudson was thrown out trying to steal 2nd on a high, outside changeup before Milledge singled to leftfield, stole second, and scored on a Cust single.

The White Sox threatened immediately, with their leadoff batter getting an infield hit and moving to second on a wild pitch, leaving Swisher at-bat with a full count. Bourgeois struck out Swisher, but a Thome single and a Konerko homerun to rightfield brought home three White Sox runs. End of one, White Sox lead three – one

Inning two: Josh Fields led off the second and patiently watched three balls go by. He came out swinging on a 3-0 fastball and drove it over the centerfield fence. Harris then singled on a two – two pitch and scored all the way from first on an Erdos double that bounced to the right centerfield wall. Milledge then singled Erdos home

The White Sox came out swinging, getting leadoff singles before a fielders choice left runners at first and third and one out for leadoff batter Ozuna. Ozuna hit a slow roller just out of the reach of Josh Fields and Brendan Harris for a run scoring single, leaving runners at first and second with one out for the dangerous Nick Swisher, but a double-play initiated by the second baseman ended the second inning tied at four

Inning three: a double by Spilborghs to left-center field and Dan Johnson's first homerun gave the Country a six – four lead that was extended when Fields hit his third homerun of the year – this one barely clearing the leftfield fence. A single and a double by Harris and Erdos put runners at second and third with one out for McCurdy, hitless In five at-bats this season. McCurdy hit a sacrifice fly to right field, scoring one run, and then the White Sox brought in reliever Linebrink, who closed out the top of the 3rd. When Bourgeois retired the White Sox in order, it ended the third inning with the Country leading eight – four

Innings four – five: both sides were retired uneventfully in the fourth, but in the top of the fifth, two out singles by Harris, Erdos, and McCurdy scored another run. Oliver (88 DC CU – three, SLV – three, CB – three, VS – one) replaced Bourgeois, who allowed four runs on seven hits over four innings with two strikeouts. Oliver ended the inning, allowing one single, and sent the game into the sixth with the Country leading nine – four

Inning six: after the Country were retired in order, Konerko led off the bottom of the sixth with his second homerun of the day and Jermaine Dye hit his first homerun of the season. End of six, Country lead nine – six

Innings seven–nine: Andrew "fireman" Brown started the seventh and gave up a two-out homerun to Nick Swisher before closing out the seventh. He closed out the eighth inning easily, maintaining the Country's nine – seven lead entering the ninth. Chamberlain started the ninth inning and saved the game on two infield groundouts and a fly to shallow right-field.

Solid win! Good to see Fields is still a major power threat for the team. I would be his agent but I'm not too great at being those. The bullpen is doing a nice job also. :)

GAME 3: Iowa City Country Jimenez (98 EB CB – two, CH – four) at Chicago White Sox Floyd (93 DB DCB – three, CH – one)

Lineup: Huisman, still purple, is in today's game, batting 9th while McCurdy moves up to eighth in the batting order

Inning one: the Country were uncharacteristically impatient at the plate, with each of the first three batters being retired with only one or two pitches thrown. In the bottom of the first, Jimenez easily retired Ozuna before giving up a single to Swisher and a homerun to Jim Thome on the second consecutive low outside fastball he threw to Thome. End of one, White Sox lead two – zero

Inning two: the Country scored twice in the top of the second when Cust, Fields, and Erdos singled, and McCurdy hit his second sacrifice fly of the season. When Jimenez gave up two hits, but ended the inning without giving up a White Sox run, it ended the second with the game tied two – two

Inning three: the Country pulled ahead in the third when Milledge singled, stole second and with two out, went to third on a Cust ground ball to short and scored when the White Sox shortstop overthrew the first baseman. When Jimenez closed out the third, the Country lead three – two

Inning four: Felds hit his major league leading fourth home run to lead off the fourth inning. White Sox starter, Floyd, closed out the rest of the inning easily, retiring Hudson on an impressive three pitch strikeout – two high inside pitches taken for a called strikes and a low outside pitch that Hudson watched go by for a called strike three. When Jimenez closed out the fourth on two strikeouts, the game entered the fifth inning with the Country leading four – two

Inning five: the White Sox had a runner in scoring position with no out in the bottom the fifth, when Richar singled and stole second. Jimenez recorded two outs before Jim Thome singled up the middle. End of five, Country lead four – three

Inning six: Jermaine Dye tied the game when he launched a monster home run over the left-field fence, at which time Jimenez was removed in favor of middle reliever Oliver (88 DC CU – three, SLV – three, CB – three, the SL – one). Oliver gave up two singles, but closed out the inning on a double play without allowing any other runs. End of six, four – four tie

Inning seven: with 1 out and the bases empty, Orlando Hudson turned on a 95 mile-per-hour fastball, homering to centerfield. When Oliver retired the White Sox on a strike out and to fly ball to center, the game entered 8th with the country leading five – four

Innings eight-nine: the White Sox left reliever, Thorton, in the game to start his fourth inning of work, clearly hoping they could avoid going into their bullpen, But when the Country loaded the bases with one out on singles by McCurdy, Hudson, and Milledge, they brought in MacDougal (98 FB HSL – three, CB – two, SK – one) to face Spilborghs, who was 0/4 on the day. Spilborghs lined a first pitch sinker into right field, scoring two runs.

The game entered the bottom of the ninth with the country enjoying a seven – four lead

Chamberlain started the ninth-inning, and used five fastballs to induce three infield groundouts, closing out the game with a seven-four Country win.

Comments: McCurdy failed to throw out the first base stealer of his major league career in the fifth inning (Richar); Milledge stole two bases today and Erdos stole one, bringing the team total through three games up to five stolen bases, good for second in major-league baseball behind the intra-division Indians' outrageous nine stolen bases; the Country relief pitchers shut out the White Sox for the final four innings of the game; Josh Fields' four home runs through three games puts him first in major-league baseball, but his four RBIs for the season is the lowest, or tied for the lowest, RBI total for players with two or more homeruns

GAME 4: Iowa City Country Lannan (89 EB SL – three, CB – four, CH – three) at Chicago White Sox Contreras (95 DB to SF – two, SL – two, SP – four, CH – three)

Lineup: Dan Johnson is being given the day off, replaced by Harris, and Towles plays shortstop in place of Huisman, batting nighth

Inning one: Hudson was very patient, working a full count before lofting a fastball just over the shortstop's outstretched glove for a single. After stealing second, Hudson was picked off for the final out of the inning when Spilborghs launched what appeared to be an easy single, but the White Sox leftfielder caught it for the out and then doubled off Hudson.

In the bottom of the first with two out, Thome hit a solo home run over the opposite field fence, and Lannan then gave up a triple to Konerko. A two run homerun to Jermaine Dye, and Lannan headed to the locker room, replaced by James (91 CB SL – three, CH – three), who was scheduled to pitch the following game. End of one, White Sox lead three – zero

Inning two: Cust lead off the second with a ground ball single up the middle, and Josh Fields followed by hammering a high fastball over the centerfield fence. The Country then tied the game when the slow-footed Harris got an infield single, moved to second on a wild pitch, to third on a fielders choice, and scored on a McCurdy sacrifice fly. In the bottom half of the inning, the White Sox pulled ahead on a single, a fielders choice, and then another single. End of two, White Sox lead four – three

Inning three: disappointingly, in spite of leading off the third with singles by Hudson and Milledge, the Country were unable to score. The White Sox did not have similar problems, as Thome lead off the inning by hitting an 0-1 slider tailing into the plate over the centerfield fence. End of three, White Sox lead five – three

Inning five: Hudson lead off the inning and appeared to be looking fastball, so when Contraras delivered one right down the middle, Hudson hit it over the centerfield fence. When the Country's James ended the inning without allowing a run, it's sent the game into the sixth with the White Sox leading five – four

Inning seven: after the Country failed to score, Uribe lead off with an opposite field home run. End of seven, White Sox lead six – four

Inning eight: Cust singled with one out and went to third on a Josh Fields double into the left centerfield gap. Harris singled sharply to rightfield – too sharply for Fields to come home, leaving the Country down by a run, one out, runners at first and third with Erdos at-bat. Erdos was jammed by fastball but muscled it over the drawn in infield, bringing home the tying run and leaving runners at first and second. McCurdy watched several pitches go by before sharply singling to right field, bringing home Brendan Harris as the go-ahead run. A fielders choice and then a single by Hudson brought home another run, and then a double by Milledge scored two runs. Andrew "fireman" Brown started the eighth and after giving up the single to Thome, the improved defense, which has been evidenced the last few games, was made clear again as Konerko hit into a three – five – three doubleplay that would not have been possible without the improved arm strength this season. End of eight, Country lead 10 – 6

Inning nine: Jack Cust extended the lead when he hit his second homerun of the season, this one over dead center field. The White Sox' Carlos Quentin hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the inning, but never mounted a serious threat to tie the game, as Shawn Green made his first appearance of the year and closed out the game, 11 – 7, Country

Comments: McCurdy threw out his first base stealer in the bottom of the first; McCurdy also had a sacrifice fly and knocked in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth, earning himself player of the game recognition. Hudson, Milledge, and Harris are currently heading 500 or better

Up Next: The country are tied for the AL Central lead at three – one with the Indians and Royals. They now travel to Kansas City to play four-game series against the Royals

That's the plan. It's subject to change, but as long as each game is fun and most are close, I'll play them all and report them all.

If I buildup a big division lead, I'll consider simming 1 game per series. Maybe simming more against bottom-tier teams, but so far I'm 3-1 with 4 runs being the largest margin of victory, and in that game, I didn't take the lead until the 8th

4/6 – 9/2009: Iowa City Country at Kansas City Royals

Game one: Country James (91 CB SL – three, CH – three) versus Royals Hochevar (95 FD SL – two, CH – two)

Comment: the Royals could be in for a rough series, as they head into the season with only four starting pitchers, none of whom have recovered enough to start today's game.

Inning one: the Country scored quickly as Hudson hit the sixth pitch into the left center field gap for a double and scored one out later on a Spilborghs single. Spilborghs, who went to second on the throw home, was stranded at second, as Cust flied out to left and Johnson ground out to second. James retired the Royals easily with the help of a double-play ball handled by Hudson. End of one, Country lead one – zero

Inning two: Fields led off the inning by hammering a fastball up in the zone over the left center field fence; Erdos followed with a base hit and made it to third on a single and a fielders choice; Hudson drove him in on a sacrifice fly. A Milledge single put runners at first and second for Spilborghs, who drove both baserunners home on a double over the leftfielder's head. Spilborghs jogged home when Cust went with an outside fastball, homering over the left field fence. At this point, the Royals removed their starting pitcher for Zack Greinke (96 BE 2SF – two, SL – two, CCH – two). Greinke retired Johnson with a popout to second on a fastball up in the zone.

Country starter James started the second inning without having thrown anything but strikes, and retired the dangerous Jose Guillen on a ground out to third and then struck out Josh Hamilton on three pitches. When James closed out the inning with a popout to shallow centerfield that Huisman easily retrieved, the game entered the third inning with the Country leading seven – zero, and James still having not thrown a pitch that was not swung on or called a strike.

Innings five-six: with one out and no one on base, Dan Johnson hit his second homerun of the season over the right-field fence. When James retired the Royals in order, he took a one hitter into the sixth inning with the Country leading eight – zero. James only used 30 pitches to get through the first five innings, including two balls.

The Royals finally punched through in the sixth inning when the Country, playing their outfield in against the Royals' eighth and ninth hitters (FE and FF, respectively) allowed a single and then a triple into the right-field corner. A DeJesus single brought in another run, and then two more singles loaded the bases for the Royals number 4 batter, Jose Guillen. A Guillen single brought the score to 8 – 4 and sent James to the showers. Grindell, a starter last year who has not been in good condition yet this year, entered the game and walked the bases loaded before inducing an infield pop out for the second out of the inning. With the Royals shortstop at-bat and the bases-loaded, Grindell allowed at infield single before closing out the inning on a ground out to short. End of six, Country lead eight – five

Inning eight: the Country extended their lead in the top of the eighth when Erdos singled with one out and was able to move the third as Huisman singled while Erdos was attempting to steal second, and then scored on a Hudson double to left center that left Huisman at third and two out for Lastings Milledge. Milledge singled home both runners on a three – one fastball. The Royals scored on back-to-back doubles by Hamilton and Olivo before the inning ended with the Country leading 11 – 6

Inning nine: after Jack Cust flied out to center, Dan Johnson walked. The Country pinch ran for Johnson with Ryan Sweeney, who stole second on the next pitch, and ultimately scored on an Erdos opposite field single. A two-out single by Schrager, pinchhitting for McCurdy, drove in another run. When Oliver came in and retired the Royals, giving up one single in the process, it ended the game with a 13 – 6 Country win

Comments: while the improved infield defense with Huisman at short and Hudson at second has been evident, it was highlighted in this game as both players consistently went deep into the hole, ranged into the shallow outfield, and used their stronger arms to get outs on at least six shots that would have either been infield hits or shallow outfield singles. Cust, Johnson, and Fields each homered today, but most of today's offensive output was from the Country's one – three hitters. Hudson, Milledge, and Spilborghs, who went a combined 7/15 with four doubles, seven RBIs, four runs scored, and two stolen bases (both by Milledge). After James' amazing start, taking a two-hitter into the sixth inning, his day ended a rather pedestrian five runs on seven hits with two strikeouts over 5 – 1/3 innings.

GAME TWO: Iowa City Country O'Connor (89 EA SL – three, CB – one, CH – three) At Kansas City Royals Ramirez (94 DE SL – two, CH – two)

Lineup: Cust and Johnson have been playing in blue condition; Cust is being given the day off while Johnson will hit out of the DH spot and Harris will play first and bat sixth

Inning one: the Country, again, score quickly, as Hudson singled and took off for second on the next pitch. Milledge punched the ball into shallow centerfield and Hudson wound up on third, scoring on a Spilborghs fielders choice. O'Connor retired the Royals on two groundouts to short and one groundout to third, ending the first with the Country leading one – zero.

Inning four: The Country extended their lead when Harris reached first on an error and then Erdos homered over the right field fence. When Country starter O'Connor ended the fourth inning on a double-play to second base, the fourth inning ended with the Country leading three – zero

Inning four: the Country extended their lead when Fields singled off the right centerfield fence, scoring Milledge, who previously singled and went to third on a Dan Johnson single. Johnson may have been able to score and Fields might have reached second, but both players clearly thought the ball was out of the park and did not run full out. The top of the inning ended with Harris watching a changeup just catch the inside corner for a called strike three.

The Royals threatened, but failed to score, as the fifth inning ended with the Country leading four – zero

Inning six: the Country scored quickly as Erdos led off with a double and scored on a Huisman single to right field. Huisman, who went to second on the throw home, scored on a Hudson single up the middle. In the bottom half of the inning, the Royals again threatened, putting a runner at second base with two out, but failed to score. End of 6, Country lead six – zero

Innings seven-nine: the Country had the potential for a big inning, as singles by Fields, Harris, and Erdos loaded the bases with one out, but Huisman lined out to the second baseman and McCurdy flied out to center. O'Connor retired the Royals, giving up a lone single to Josh Hamilton. In the eighth, Spilborghs hit his first home run of the season right before Johnson hit his third of the season. The Royals avoided the shut out in their half of the eighth when Ross Gload hit a two-out double and scored on a single by Teahen.

Jiang pitched the ninth inning, allowing a leadoff hit that was erased on a six – four – three double play. The game ended when Harris, fielding at first base, made a good stop on a sharp grounder hit to his right and touched first for the final out of the game, sealing the eight – one victory.

Comments: O'Connor recorded his first victory with a strong outing (one run on eight hits with four strikeouts over eight innings) and Spilborghs and Erdos recorded their first homeruns of the season.
