St. Louis Cardinals April Review
May 1st, 2008- Now that a new month is upon us, let's take a look at how the Cardinals did last month, in April. First, we'll start out with a look at the NL Central standings.

Astros- 21-8; ...

Pirates- 15-15; 5.5 GB
Cardinals- 15-14; 6 GB
Brewers- 13-14; 7 GB
Reds- 11-18; 10 GB
Cubs- 10-17; 10 GB

The Cardinals are currently in 3rd place, 6 games back of the Houston Astros, who are 1/2 game back of the Indians in the overall MLB standings. The Cards will have to start to play well against the Astros if they want to win the division this year. So far, they are 0-6 against the 'Stros.

Rookie standout Brain Barton is batting .328 with 4 HR's and 15 RBI's in his first month as a big leauger. He won Rookie of the Month in the NL for April, and looks to be the leading candidate for NL Rookie of the Year if he continues to play well.

Playing at Busch Stadium has not been a huge advantage for St.Louis this year, as they are 9-9 at home. That will need to improve if they want to be a playoff team. A road record of 6-5 is about on par. GM BrewersFuzz says he would like to stay around .500 on the road, but really excel at home.

Albert Pujols has been off to a hot start, batting .297 with 10 HR's and 25 RBI's. Those 10 HR's make him tied for first with David Wright in the NL home run race. Chris Carpenter has been off to a good start as well, and has posted a 2.18 ERA through the first month, which is good for 4th in the NL. Closer Jason Isringhausen has been efficient, going 5/5 on save opportunities.

Here's to an even better May!

Chicago Cubs(10-19) @ St.Louis Cardinals(16-14)
May 2nd, 2008- The Cardinals won a rather dull pitcher's duel today, at Busch Stadium. Adam Wainwright was the starter for the Cards, and pitched 3 strong innings, before tweaking his hamstring running to 3rd base. He was forced to leave the game. "It's just a little sore, nothing to worry about. I'll be fresh and ready to go for my next start." he said, after the game. Brad Thompson came in as relief, and continued to pitch as well as Wainwright, going 4 innings, allowing no runs with 3 K's and notching his first win of the year. The Cardinals put up the lone run of the game, when Izturis hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 4th. The Cubs threatened in the 6th, with a Mark DeRosa leadoff double, but Thompson retired the next three batters to get out of the jam. Other than that, the Cubs didn't have a runner in scoring position after Wainwright was taken out. Franklin got the hold, and Isringhausen recorded his 6th save, taking out the 1-2-3 batters in the Cubs lineup in the top of the 9th. Wainwright also said after the game; "It's great to see our pitching staff be able to get the win when our offense gets only 1 run. It shows that we can really hold down the opponent, which is great for our confidence as a team, after getting blasted by the Reds a few days ago. Thompson pitched great after me, and Franklin and Isringhausen have been solid all year."

We did pretty well in that stretch, about right what I want us to do. 5-3 at home, and 4-4 on the road. Not too shabby. :)

St.Louis Cardinals(25-22) @ San Diego Padres(17-28)
May 19th, 2008- The Cardinals lost to the Padres at PETCO Park last night in a long, grueling, extra innings game. Mark Mulder took the mound for the Cards, and went 7 strong innings allowing only 2 runs. Those 2 runs came in the bottom of the 2nd when Scott Hairston doinked a 2 run homer off of the left field foul pole, giving the Padres a 2-0 lead. Jake Peavy was also excellent for the Padres, going 10 innings. He gave up 2 runs in the 5th, by giving up a leadoff double to Chris Duncan, who advanced to 3rd on a groundout by Encarnacion. Duncan then scored on a wild pitch. Miles knocked in another run with an RBI single scoring Molina later in the inning, making it 2-2. And it would stay that way. For a looong time. The Padres threatened with a leadoff double in the 7th, but couldn't score. And again in the 9th, Ron Villone got out of a jam with 1 out and runners on 2nd and 3rd. Encarnacion saved the game, for a while longer at least, in the 10th inning when he jumped up to grab an Adrian Gonzalez smash that would've hit the right field wall and scored the winning run for the Friars. But alas, the Cardinals could only scrape by for so long, getting nothing going offensively in extra innings. Jim Edmonds doubled, and Jody Gerut knocked him in with a walk-off single in the 14th to down the Cardinals, 3-2. It was quite an exhausting game, and the Cardinals were forced to use 3 relievers after Mulder left the game. This will surely have an impact on upcoming games in the next few days.

Juan Encarnacion made a leaping catch at the wall in the 10th inning of last night's game to rob Adrian Gonzalez of a walk-off hit. But, the Cardinals would eventually lose in the 14th inning.

Gah, must try to fix it. :/

Also, any criticism? Thoughts on adding pics?

Pics are just not a good idea. Unless you have a really nice TV/camera or proper equipment, the pictures look pretty bad

I took mine with my iPod, stuck it into tinypic, and it came out upside down. :/ Oh well. I guess pics were a fail.

here, does this look "decent" to you?

same with this

The top picture is the tv I play power pros and every thing on, but it looks the same as the tv in my basement, I don't think that tv quality would factor in tbh.
