Harang Pitches Gem Against Pirates

Aaron Harang pitched a gem out on the mound today, shutting out the Pirates and giving up only four hits. Dunn put the first run on the board with a RBI single to bring home Ryan Freel. But with runners on first and second and nobody out, Duke was able to strike out the next three batters and end the threat. Dunn was able to extend the lead even more with a solo home run in the third to make it two to nothing. But the Red's were able to seal away the game with a sacrifice fly by Paul Bako to bring home Edwin Encarnacion.

Soria Blows Lead in First Game

The Pirates first game on the west coast is another low scoring affair. Both starters were on their game, combining to give up just five hits, one run, and fourteen strikeouts in just under sixteen innings. The Pirates struck first (again) with Wilson hitting a single, stealing second, advancing to third on a bad throw by Russel Martin, and scoring on a hit by new catcher Olivo. It remained scoreless until the bottom of the eighth when Soria gave up a single to Martin, a double to Matt Kemp, an RBI single to Andre Either, and another RBI single, this time to Rafeal Furcal. The Ourates tried to rally back in the ninth with a Sanchez single and then a two out double by LaRoche. Wilson came up and worked a full count before chasing a slider far out of the zone. When asked after the game about the struggling short relievers, he responded with, "We've got to work out the kinks." before walking into the clubhouse where yelling and crashing objects could be heard.

Morgan is upset he didn't pitch well, and wants to learn a breaking ball this offseason. I'm just kidding.

What Morgan should be learning is how to play better, or he'll be sent to the minors.

Wha... why? Who would be his replacement? God dang it, I don't even know why I picked him...

He has potential, but once Gorzalanny and Yates get back from the DL, he'll be in danger of demotion.
