SAARLOOS RETURNS, WON'T NEED TRIP TO DL; SANCHEZ OUT FOR THREE DAYS

SAN FRANCISCO - The Giants have announced that P Kirk Saarloos, who left the 12-inning showdown against St. Louis with elbow pain, will not need a trip to the disabled list and will instead be sent down to AAA Fresno. The veteran pitcher has allowed 4 runs in 1 2/3 innings with the team, and was sent down in favor of 26-year-old Fernando Hernandez. Although Saarloos served the one role the Giants don't currently have a pitcher fit for - long reliever/swing man - they want to see what they have in Hernandez and if he's going to be a part of their future. The Giants might not even need a long reliever because they would have so many middle relievers and two set-up men.

Infielder Freddy Sanchez, meanwhile, is out for up to three days due to a bruise he suffered on a head-first slide back to second. Fellow infielder Angel Chavez will take his spot on the roster. He could see some action in the infield. Jeff Keppinger will take Sanchez's spot in the lineup however, moving down to the 8 hole. Emmanuel Burriss will move up to the 2 hole since he is batting well to start the season.

It's time to see whether some of the new GM's moves prove worthwhile.

SANCHEZ READY FOR D'BACKS, FONTENOT SENT DOWN

SAN FRANCISCO - Infielder Freddy Sanchez, who left the 12-inning marathon in Game 1 of four against St. Louis with a bruise, has fully recovered from the injury and says he is ready for the Giants' next game, against the division rival Diamondbacks. Middle infielder Angel Chavez, who took Sanchez's spot on the roster, didn't get an at-bat in Sanchez's three-game absence. He could be getting some soon, as fellow middle infielder Mike Fontenot was demoted to AAA Fresno. Fontenot, while serving as a backup infielder along with Jeff Keppinger, has not impressed much at the plate this year, and the Giants are hoping Chavez can help more there while providing good defense as well. Fontenot will certainly be back, but the Giants now get an extended look at what they have in Chavez. Look for Fernando Hernandez, who has given up just 1 hit in 1 and 2/3 innings this season since taking Kirk Saarloos's spot on the roster, to also get some more chances in this series.

Arizona Diamondbacks (7-5) @ San Francisco Giants (9-4)

April 14, 2011

SAN FRANCISCO - The Diamondbacks scored early in this one, taking a 1-0 lead that was started by a 1-out double from Kelly Johnson. Jonathan Sanchez, San Francisco's starter, was able to get Justin Upton swinging, but the 'DBacks salvaged the run on a single by catcher Miguel Montero. The home team got the run back for Sanchez, when the other Sanchez (Freddy), fresh off the DL, slapped a lead-off base hit. He moved to third on a single by Cody Ross, and then scored on a grounder by Carlos Beltran that got by Kelly Johnson. Buster Posey, in the midst of a disappointing offensive season, broke the tie with a rocket through the hole and into center field. The Giants would get two more runs, off a base hit to right field by Pablo Sandoval and a grounder by Pat Burrell. Jeff Keppinger kept it going, hitting a drive down the left field line. There was no doubt it was leaving the yard, for his second homer of the season. Both teams would get another run, and there wasn't more activity until the the 5th, when Jonathan Sanchez looked shaky. A couple of singles and groundouts led to runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. Arizona would get one run in the inning, but that was all, as Sanchez set down Xavier Nady on one pitch to get out of the jam. Carlos Beltran would hit a bomb that made Sanchez feel better about the tough inning, blasting one that flew over the center field wall in seconds. The Giants would add on two more runs, one courtesy of a solo shot by Pablo Sandoval. The 'DBacks added on a run, but were held down for the most part by Fernando Hernandez. It wasn't until Santiago Casilla took the mound in the 8th that things got scary. Geoff Blum started the inning off with a single, Gerardo Parra flew out, and then pinch-hitter Stephen Drew added a single of his own. J.J. Putz, who was batting 1st due to a double switch, struck out swinging, and Kelly Johnson doubled for what was his 4th hit of the night. Johnson's double scored Blum, and the next batter, Justin Upton, knocked in both Drew and Johnson on a double for what was his first hit of the night. That would do it for Casilla, who handed it over to Javier Lopez. On the first pitch, Lopez's slider came inside and hit Montero on the back. He was pinch-run for by Ryan Langerhans, but is not believed to be injured. Chris Young shocked the fans at AT&T Park with a three-run blast to left field to give the Rattlesnakes the lead. Javier Lopez would allow another hit, and he was done. Jeremy Affeldt came in and cleaned it up for him, but the damage was done. The Diamondbacks scored a total of six runs in the inning. Angel Chavez chipped in with his first hit of the season to start off the bottom of the 8th. Aubrey Huff would tie the game, singling home Chavez from second. That forced starter Jason Marquis into action, who proceeded to serve up a three-run bomb to Carlos Beltran. Pat Burrell pretty much put away Arizona's hopes of a comeback, jacking a two-run shot to left field after a Buster Posey single. With two outs in the bottom of the 9th, the Diamondbacks were forced to keep Marquis in the game because they had no relievers left. Brian Wilson got Marquis to ground out and seal the deal in what turned out to be a very exciting game.

Final Score:

Diamondbacks: 10
Giants: 15

Not sure if you double posting was on purpose for irony, but that was quite ironic. :P

This is a great log, by the way.

Yeah, the problem was, I kept clicking submit and I thought it was taking too long to load. It ended up posting the same thing three times.
