Joe Blanton vs. Josh Rupe

After giving up an RBI single to Ben Broussard in the 2nd, Joe Blanton would settle down and cruise until the 9th inning. In the meanwhile, he got 6 runs of support from Felipe Lopez, Daric Barton, Chase Utley and a few passed balls. In the 9th, with the score 6-2, Blanton got one quick out. He proceeded to give up a hit, and showed sings of fatigue. The manager decided to give him 2 more batters and if he couldn't retire either of them he'd be pulled. The next two batters also got singles and the bases were loaded with 1 out and Josh Hamilton stepping to the plate. Tom Gordon came in, and on a 2-2 pitch, Hamilton blasted a breaking pitch into the upper deck to tie the game with a grand slam. Gordon lost it from there, giving up a base hit, and then giving up a walkoff double to Hank Blalock as the Rangers made an amazing come from behind victory.

AL West Sandings Update
Athletics 87-72 Magic # 1
Mariners 84-75 3 GB
Rangers 79-80 8 GB
Angels 75-84 12 GB

Big Series for Mariners
The Seattle Mariners have a tough 3 game series ahead of them. They have to sweep the Oakland Athletics to even get a tie at 1st place in the west. All hope is not lost if they lose a game though, as they are just 1 game back of the Blue Jays for the AL Wild Card. The Blue Jays start a 3 game series with the Baltimore Orioles.

Anibal Sanchez vs. Carlos Silva

All the scoring in this one came in the top of the first inning. Felipe Lopez led off the game with a double, and Emil Brown drove him home the very next pitch. After back to back outs by Barton and Utley, Kurt Suzuki, Jack Cust, and Eric Chavez hit back to back to back RBI singles to make it 4-0. Anibal Sanchez was dominant again today, throwing his second complete game in a row, his last also happened to be against the Mariners. He was much more dominant today, allowing no runs and striking out 8 batters. After Sanchez retired the final batter, he threw his arms up in joy and his teammates mobbed him as the Athletics clinched the AL West with the win. The Mariners will have to win the next two games and have the Blue Jays lose their last two to earn a tie of the wildcard. They will have an advantage as a majority of the Athletic starters are expected to get rest the next two games.

The Mariners hopes of a playoff birth were dashed despite their win, as the Blue Jays won and clinched the wild card.

Brett Myers vs. Joba Chambelain

It didn't take long for the scoring to begin, as the Yankees scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st on an RBI double from Alex Rodriguez and a 2 run single from Morgan Ensberg.
