Sox Lose Series on Extra Inning Loss

April 24 -- The Red Sox up and down April continued as they lost the 3rd game of this series with the Angels and lost the series as well. The Red Sox fell behind 2-0 in the 3rd on a 2-run shot by Morales off of Boof Bonser who got the spot start today and did no impress in his 5 innings. But Boston chipped away and took the lead in the bottom of the 3rd with RBI singles by Pedroia, Ortiz and Beltre and an error by Brandon Wood also scored a run to make it 4-2 Sox. But Wood would(heh Wood would) get redemption in the 5th with a 2-run single single, part of a 3-run Angels inning that would give them a 5-4 lead. In the 9th, Fuentes came on in a 5-4 game to record the save. But with runners on the corners and 1 out for Boston, Bill Hall pinch hit for Drew and chopped one to Aybar who threw home but the throw was too late and the game was tied at 5. Going into extra innings, Los Angeles took the lead in the 10th on former Yankee Hideki Matsui's sacrifice fly to make it 6-5 Angels. It would be a much easier inning in the 10th for Brian Fuentes who finished off Boston in the inning to get the win.

Are you going to do the monthly stat update like you did with the Pirates? If not, my clients want to know their stats.

Beckett Strikes Out 14 To Halt 4-Game Skid

April 27 -- The Red Sox's 4-game losing streak came to an end Sunday with a 7-1 win over the Rays to avoid the sweep against a team that had won 7 straight. The Red Sox bats came out firing scoring 3 runs in the 1st on a 2-run double by Youkilis and an RBI single by Ortiz to go up 3-0 and then 5-0 after 3 innings. But the story of the game was Josh Beckett. He was outstanding giving up just 2 hits in 8 innings and he struck out a career high 14 hitters(funny because I fondly remember him striking out 13 on this same day in 2008 inreal life). The Rays got their first hit of the day in the 5th inning on an RBI double by a red hot B.J Upton(.333) who knocked in Pena who had walked to make it 5-1. But Mike Lowell would put it away in the 6th with a 2-run shot, his 1st of the season in his new reduced role, to make it 7-1 which would be the final score.

Red Sox April In Review

The Red Sox are almost happy to be 14-15 after their April performance. Key struggles to some guys and abysmal pitching has been the problem. The Red Sox have giving up the HIGHEST amount of runs in the major leagues and hold a 5.30 ERA. Coming into this season they were supposed to rely on pitching and defense but the offensehas done better socirng 167 runs which is 3rd in the American League. Buchholz has been an early disaster, a 1-2 record and a 10.5 ERA in 16.1 innings, but Wakefield will be back up soon. Papelbon hasn't been quite as dominant with a 4.32 ERA but thats in just 8.1 innings. The rotation, besides Buchholz, has been pretty solid actually with only Lackey with an ERA over 5.00. Offensively they really need bounce-back months from Ellsbury and Martinez. Ellsbury is putting on a big role for the team in his first full season with the Red Sox and may be send down if he hits around .240 or lower. Overall the Orioles are in 1st in the East, that has for the most part underperformed so far so watch out.

Red Sox Recall Wakefield from DL, Buchholz to AAA
May 1 -- The Red Sox have taken Tim Wakefield of the disabled list and sent Clay Buchholz down to AAA. Buchholz had a rough time in the majors, so bad that his ERA was 10.5. Wakefield will of course go back to his starting pitcher role that he held when he went on the DL on April 10.

Youkillis couldn't wait for Buccholz to go back down to the minors. Beckett wants to know what he can do to push down his ERA.

First Visit to Fenway a Good one for Price and the Rays

May 2 -- The Red Sox hosted the Rays for the first time this season after taking two out of three from Toronto but it was the Rays who stole the show. The Red Sox scored first when Ellsbury singled, stole 2nd, and then was driven in by Dustin Pedroia in the 1st inning. But Jason Bartlett gave the Rays the lead in the 2nd with a 2-run double, the Rays would lead from there on. It was 2-1 until a misplay by Youkilis and Lester covering the bag fueled a 3-run Tampa Bay inning in the 7th inning and then Upton would hit a 2-run homerun in the 8th, his major league leading 11th homer, to make it 7-1. David Price was dominant today for the Rays in his 1st ever start against Boston. He ended up giving up 3 runs after a 2-run single by Pedroia in the 8th but struck out 7 Red Sox hitters in 8 inning to get the win. The Red Sox got all of the spark from their 1-2 hitters in this game. Pedroia went 3-4 and drove in all 3 Red Sox runs and Ellsbury went 2-4 with 2 stolen bases and 2 runs, the rest of the Red Sox hitters had a combined 2 hits.

Later Homers Lead Shutout Win over Detroit

May 5 -- The Red Sox are trying to win their 3rd straight series for the 1st time this year and they got a nice start winning game one of the series in Detroit against the AL best Tigers and their ace Verlander. It was a pitchers duel as Dice-K lowered his ERA down to 2.03 in throwing 7 shutout innings against the Tigers in another great outing. Verlander matched him going the first 7 innings of shutout ball. But that ended in the 8th inning with a solo homerun by David Ortiz to make it 1-0 Red Sox. Bard pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning and for more insurance, Jeremy Hermida went deep for the 3rd time this season to make it 2-0. Papelbon had a perfect 9th inning to finish off the Tigers in a great outing for Red Sox pitching.

Red Sox use homeruns again to take series from Tigers

May 8 -- The Red Sox won their 3rd straight series against a good Tigers team by taking 3 of 4 in Detroit. The Red Sox used the same game as they did in the first game of the series as they won thanks to 2 solo homeruns and just that, also great pitching by Jon Lester helped them. Beltre homered in the 2nd inning and Ellsbury homered in the 5th for the Red Sox scoring and thats all Lester would need giving up only one run on an RBI groundout in the 3rd inning. With this win, for the first time this season the Red Sox won their 3rd series in a row and moved within 1 game of the AL East leading Orioles

M&M Boys Lead Twins To Win on Mothers Day

May 11 -- Homeruns by Mauer and Morneau led the Twins to a Mothers Day win on Sunday Night Baseball to beat the Red Sox for a 2nd straight game. The Twins scored early off of Matsuzaka, whose ERA was 1.99 coming into this game, with an RBI double by Orlando Hudson to make it 1-0. Luis Ayala made a surprise spot start today and went 4 2/3 shutout innings and the combination of him, Neshek, Crain and then Joe Nathan helped keep the Red Sox to one run. Although the Twins only led 1-0 in the 7th but Matsuzaka gave up a 2-run homerun to Joe Mauer and was taken out for Embree who gave up a solo homerun to Justin Morneau for back to back homeruns and a 4-0 Minnesota lead. The Red Sox scored their only run next inning with an RBI single by the hottest Red Sox hitter in Pedroia to make it 4-1 but the Red Sox would lose by that score

"A Dynasty From The North" wasn't just a catchphrase.

Hey, I have a good idea: Why don't you pit your 2009 Sox against my 2008 Twins and see if you can beat us? But don't be discouraged if you can't—we're pretty tough :)
