Odom was looking for his 2nd win of the season. John Montague kept the the A's hitters hitless for 6 innings. Foxx broke up the no-no w/ a single. In the bottom of the 7th, McGwire broke up the scoreless tie w/ a double to bring a run. Bottom of the 8th, Baker hit a solo shot to make the score 2-0. That's all Odom needed as he shutout the Mariner's on 5 hits and w/ 17-Ks.

W Odom (2-0)
L John Montague (1-2)

A's record 11-6

Bottom of the 1st, Reggie Jackson doubled to score the first and only run of the ball game. Roland earned his 2nd win of the season with a dominant performance. He kept the Royal's heavy bats silent w/ 3 hits. Also, he fooled them w/ 15-Ks. McNamara hopes that the A's pitching and hitting will be more consistent as we go more and more into the season.

W Roland (2-2)
L Jerry Butler (1-3)

A's record: 12-6

Grove was looking for a good start, but that didn't pan out too well. The A's started the scoring first as Campaneris doubled in 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Foxx then sac bunted another run to make the score 3-0. The 4th inning, the Royals bats started to heat up. Lou Piniella cut the lead with a solo homer. A few batters later John Mayberry tied the game w/ a 2-run homer. In the top of the 6th, George Brett hit a solo homer to put the Royals ahead for good as the A's couldn't muster up a run after that. Grove said that he was disheartened after that loss and promise that won't happen again. McNamara said that the Royals are a tough team to beat, because they always find a way to come back to win.

W Bob Johnson (2-2)
L Grove (0-1)
S Paul Splitorff (3)

A's record: 13-6

A's 5

Dobson was looking to get his season on track w/ a good peformance. Today wasn't the day. He gave up a single to Jim Holt in the top of the 4th to give the Twins a 1-0 lead. A few batters later Kent Hrbek sent a towering 3-run shot to extend the lead to 4. In the bottom of the 4th, McGwire hit a 3-run shot of his own to cut the lead to 1. In the bottom of the 5th, Bando hit a solo homer to tie the game a 4. In the top of the 8th Tony Oliva gave the Twins the lead back w/ a 2-run homer to make the score 6-5. In that same inning, McGwire singled to cut the lead to 1. That was all the Twins needed as Walter Johnson came in a shut the door on the A's comeback hopes. McNamara said it was a good sign to see his boys hit. Also he went on to say that it looks like that Dobson's in a slump and hope he gets out of it. Dobson said that he's never had lost 2 starts in a row before and also has a lot of practicing to do.

WP Stan Williams (1-0)
LP Dobson (2-2)
SV Walter Johnson (3)

A's record 13-8

Today, in Oakland, was a rainy night. John Odom was on the mound looking for his 3rd win of the season. In the top of the 2nd, Harmon Killebrew singled to give the Twins an early 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the 4th, Jackson doubled to tie the game at 1 a piece. In the bottom of the 7th, McGwire doubled in a run to make the score 2-1. Cochrane added a solo home run in the 8th to stretch the lead to 2. Also, in that same inning, Grant took over the pitching from Odom. Grant shut the Twins in the 8th and 9th to earn the save.

WP Odom (3-0)
LP Jim Kaat (2-3)
SV Grant (3)

A's record 14-8

Walter Johnson? Didn't you say this was using rosters from 1979?

Big Train, Chief Bender . . . I'm guessing no. And relagating Walter Johnson to the pen is derogatory.

No. I used the 1970 rosters along w/ all-time players from their respective teams.

Pitchers
Starters (1970)
Relievers (1970 mixed in w/ all time players)
Closers (1970)

Fielders (1970 opening day lineup)
Bench (All-time players)

As you've seen so far that all the teams have integrated their players like I've done. I think I put the Big Train as a reliever as he wasn't a starter in 1970.

For nearly 25 years at that! He's using 1970 rosters with a smattering of all-time greats filling out the pullpens. Not how I would do it, but hey . . . why not.

Twins 3
A's 1

Roland was looking for his 3rd win of the season, but Bert Blyleven's pitching would allow it.. In the 3rd, Joe Mauer singled in the 1st run of the game. Top of the 7th, Harmon Killebrew took Roland out of the park to take a 2-0 lead. A few batters later, Bob Allison hit a sac fly to make the score 3-0. Campaneris singled in the 8th to cut the Twins lead to 2. Walter Johnson came in the 9th for the Twins and shut down the A's batters to gain the save. McNamara said that he's going to send Roland to AAA to regain his focus and mechanics. Also, he said that he doesn't have a problem sending players to the minors if they're not producing.

WP Bert Blyleven (3-0)
LP Roland (2-3)
SV Walter Johnson (4)

A's record 14-9

Mariners 1
A's 0

The A's hitting woes continued as they could only muster 3 hits against the combination of Mariner's pitchers, John Montague and Enrique Romo. Vida Blue pitched well (Blue replaced Roland in the starting rotation), but gave up a solo homer to Terry Steinbach in the 5th. That was the only run as the A's couldn't muster a single run against Montague and Romo. McNamara was furious about the A's poor hitting. He said that if the hitting doesn't start to pick up, things will change.

WP John Montague (2-2)
LP Blue (0-3)
SV Enrique Romo (3)

A's record 14-10

Nah, thanks man. It's frustrating when you have a great lineup w/ alot of potential, but they don't use it. My pitchers and batters will come around though. It's going to be a long season for sure w/ a lot of ups and downs. It'll be interesting for sure.
