Wakefield Deal in Works

Wakefield would boost even the worst bullpen in the league. His knuckleball is one of the best of all-time, if not the best. He currently plays for the Boston Red Socks, who don't want to give him up, however, Don Zimmer believes he can play let's strike a deal. "Wakefield in our pen... we'd have the best bullpen in the National League." Zimmer continued, "Wakefield's old, I know. However, he can bring a lot to the table. That's why we need him." Wakefield is famous for being able to throw the knuckleball, a pitch that fools hitters. The Pirates' attempt to get Wakefield is more or less a way to counter the Reds' pickup of Mike Mussina in the off season...

Will Wakefield retire after two years...?

>_<

Pirates unable to acquire Wakefield; face Socks in Spring Training

"We didn't try hard enough," Zimmer said. "I realize not being able to land Wakefield is a bad thing, but c'mon, we have a pen full of young talent who can and will develop over this time. The Reds, who have Mussina, won't know what's coming for them." Zimmer was down about not being able to acquire Wakefield. "However, let's look at the bright side. Gagne has come to Spring Training to face the Socks, today. We were able to resign Gorzelanny, so he'll be a great reliever, if he has trouble getting strikeouts this year." Though, a lot was riding on the acquisation of Wakefield. The Cubs are probably fuming, since they went out and got John Lackey just to go against Wakefield. And, the Astros also traded away Miguel Tejada for Carlos Pena, who took Wakefield deep eight times last year in four appearances.

"I warned fans though, they can't think we're out of the running yet. We have Crawford, Gagne, Wright, Prior, Gorzelanny, and Uggla ready to lead us to the postseason. Again, I discourage being moody. Gorzelanny was picked up out of free agency because we couln't get Tim." That was Zimmer's final statement about the Wakefield deal. Apparently, the Red Socks wanted David Wright and Dan Uggla for Wakefield, which is way too much, unless Teixeira is thrown in there somewhere, in my opinion.

However, without further adue, let me present to you the Spring Training pitching matchup between the Boston Red Socks and the Pittsburg Pirates.

Jered Weaver will be taking the mound for the Pirates. He was fantastic last year, sporting a 4.30 ERA and two-hundred and five strikeouts. Against him will be Curt Schilling, who's been a key figure in the Red Socks organization. He spent his time in the minors last year though, dominant was he ever.

Pirates' Lineup

1. David Wright - 1B
2. Carl Crawford - CF
3. Chris Snyder - C
4. Dan Uggla - 2B
5. Nate McLouth - RF
6. Cody Ross - LF
7. Ryan Zimmerman - 3B
8. Robinson Cano - SS

Red Socks Lineup

1. Coco Crisp - CF
2. Julio Lugo - SS
3. Manny Ramirez - LF
4. J.D. Drew - RF
5. Mike Lowell - 3B
6. Sean Casey - 1B
7. Dustin Pedroia - 2B
8. Great Harris - C

Shouldn't be much harder than David Wright and Dan Uggla.

If you don't get a good offer then just give tons of cash, that should do it.

If you get Zumaya, try to get him to cut down on Guitar Hero. He should be dominant by doin' that.

Hideo Nomo Invited to Bucs' Training

Image

Hideo Nomo might be the newest pickup for the Bucs as they work on strengthening a weakening bullpen. "He hasn't played in awhile and he's old, I know." Zimmer said, "However, he still has decent control and stamina we need in our pen. After all, we don't have a long reliever who can go more than two innings." Zimmer stated. Hideo is a Japanese player and was pretty good over there, so this pick up might help the Bucs if he doesn't retire...
