Post #3000! :D :D :woot: I planned it to be on this log, fwiw.

Sacramento Slayers 5 - San Antonio Outlaws 4

SUMMARY: When a pair of teams match up that are as similar as these two, the results of the games tend to turn out like this. A 1-run game that is neither a pitchers' duel nor a slugfest. However, this game was not without its share of excitement. The Outlaws struck first with an RBI double by catcher Zach Rodgers in the top of the first, scoring 3B Ethan Comsby. Later in the inning, center fielder Woody Dawkins drove in Rodgers with an RBI single into left field. The Slayers would answer back in the bottom of the 1st with a sac fly by Ben Zobrist following a leadoff triple by Martin Prado, bringing the score to 2-1. The Slayers would later tie the game up in the bottom of the 3rd with an RBI triple by Jose Bautista. The Outlaws would regain the lead in the following inning thanks to an RBI single by SS Dave Wilkerson that bounced off the glove of a diving Bautista. In the bottom of that same inning, Mike Morse tied the game up with a solo bomb into left field. With the score 3-3 in the top of the 6th, the Outlaws would take the lead again with an RBI double by right fielder Murray Wilkins. However, the Slayers would again answer back in the same inning with a 2-run homer into left field by Morse, giving the Slayers a 5-4 lead. The bullpen would go on to shut down the Outlaws offense, and Brian Wilson earned his PGL-leading 14th save of the season.

Sacramento Slayers 5 - San Antonio Outlaws 8

SUMMARY: Not a good day to be a pitcher, as the Slayers lose this slugfest 8-5. It was, however, an amazing day to be Zach Rodgers. This is because Rodgers drove in 6 runs and hit 2 homers. Yup, Rodgers drove in more runs than the entire Slayers offense. Rodgers' 2 homers were his 7th and 8th of the season, and were the reason for Slayers starter Shaun Marcum's 2nd loss of the season.

Slayers Acquire Guillermo Molina

The Slayers acquired catcher Guillermo Molina and reliever Kent Collier from the Squirrels in exchange for catchers Kurt Suzuki, Rod Barajas, and reliever David Aardsma. The acquisition should all but end the Slayers' search for an upgrade at the catcher position.

Molina was regarded as the best all-around catcher in the AL, but at 31 years old, concern about his ability to stay a catcher due to his age grew. Still, he should prove to be a great acquision for the Slayers. He is currently hitting .336, with 3 HR and 17 RBI, and his abilities go as such: B CON, B PWR, C SPD, D ARM STR, E FLD, D E RES. The Slayers have sacrificed Suzuki's fielding for Molina's bat.

Collier is a veteran righty. He has good control, and very good stuff, but a flyball pitcher like him isn't as effective in the short porches of GoldenApples Stadium as it is in Panpaka Park. This is proved by Collier's 7.09 ERA. His abilities go like: 95 TOP SPD, B CTRL, E STAM, Lv 4 SLD, Lv 4 CHG, Lv 4 SPLT.

Meanwhile, the Squirrels have upgraded at defense with Suzuki, and got a reliable pinch hitter in Barajas and a reliever with good potential in Aardsma.

Jonathan Allen, the trade advisor to Slayers GM Preston Greene, had this to say about the trade: "The Slayers as an organization will surely miss our force behind the plate, Kurt Suzuki, but, we think that with the addition of Guillermo Molina, our offense will be just that much more solid. His fielding certainly isn't the greatest, but, despite that, his ability to get hits, along with being able to hit for power will be very beneficial. Also going away will be our backup catcher, Rod Barajas. This won't affect us much, as Molina is incapable of injury. Aardsma should finally be getting some play time over with the Squirrels, so best of luck to him!

Along with Molina, the Slayers are also receiving relief pitcher Kent Collier. His command, and array of pitches make for him to be a very exciting addition to the Slayers bullpen!"

After trying to acquire Outlaws C Zach Rodgers and Cobras C Edgar Tomlinson in previous trades, it looks like the Slayers have finally found their guy.

Miguel Montero has been called up from AAA to take the spot vacated by Barajas, and Mark Prior was sent down to AAA to make room for Collier.

SLAYERS NOTIFICATION

Mercifully, Frank Pedersen has been scratched from his start today. We'll see if he starts the finale tomorrow in place of Butcher, but in the meantime, let's take a look at Wade Alexander, the man who is replacing Peterson:

93 TOP SPD, E CTRL, C STAM, 2SFB 2, DCB 4, CHG 4.

Alexander is a guy that likes to use his offspeed stuff, and he gets lots of groundballs because of it.

However, most importantly, best of luck to Guillermo Molina in his first game with the Slayers!

Golden Apples Stadium is still really deep, just not as deep as Panpaka. Center field is well over 400 feet there.

Sacramento Slayers 3 - San Antonio Outlaws 2

SUMMARY: Today's game was a far cry from yesterday's game. The Slayers barely eke out the victory in this one, with a 3-2 score. Guillermo Molina led off the bottom of the first inning with a single, his first hit as a member of the Slayers. He would steal 2nd base and advance to third on a groundout, and Jose Bautista drove him in with a sac fly for the first run of the game. The Outlaws would quickly tie it up with a solo shot by left fielder Clarence Douglass to lead off the top of the 2nd inning. The Slayers would later take the lead in the bottom of the 5th thanks to an RBI double by Adam Lind. They also tacked on an important insurance run in the same inning via a Jeff Francoeur RBI single which scored Lind from 2nd. This run was extremely important because Outlaws center fielder Woody Dawkins hit a solo homer in the top of the 9th off Jason Frasor. Frasor still held on to the lead, and got his first save of the season by recording 5 outs.

E. Weaver - 1 IP, 1 H, 0 K, 0 BB, 0 ER, 2.13

The Slayers already love Molina as their leadoff hitter. He is a free agent at the end of the season, but the Slayers are confident they'll keep him around. He looks to lead the Slayers to winning the series tomorrow against one of the Outlaws' 2 best pitchers, either Pederson or Butcher.

The Slayers announced that they have released Mike Fontenot in order to clear roster space for the upcoming PGL Draft. Hopefully he can latch on somewhere else.

League Blowouts

Hatchlings defeat Flash 11-1

1 Question. What makes a game a blow out? I was thinking a win of 10 runs or more but the Hatchlings over Flash 11-4 game proved me wrong.

You are correct, that game was a typo.

Sacramento Slayers 6 - San Antonio Outlaws 3

SUMMARY: The Slayers take the series 3-1 from the Outlaws in a relatively easy 6-3 victory. Brandon Morrow finally picked up his first win of the season in this one. However, he did struggle at the beginning of the game, allowing the first 3 batters to reach base. Luckily, Morrow managed to regroup by striking out #4 batter Clarence Douglass. The inning and game might have gone a lot differently had it not been for a sensational diving play by Ben Zobrist on a grounder up the middle. Instead of the 2 runs that would have likely scored, Zobrist's play saved one of those runs and got an out in the process. Morrow struck out the next batter to end the inning. The Slayers would tie the game up in the bottom of the first thanks to a leadoff double by Guillermo Molina and a sac fly by Jose Bautista that drove him in. The Slayers would take the lead on a passed ball that scored Adam Jones, and they would never look back from there. Brian Wilson notched yet another save, his PGL-leading 15th of the season.

UPCOMING SERIES

Sacramento Slayers (27-15) vs Columbus Senators (16-26)

Ah, here it is! The first interleague series of the season for the Slayers! And lucky for us, it comes against the Senators, a team that is last in their division. Still, they should not be taken lightly despite their poor showing so far this season. Here are the Senators players we need to look out for:

Kyle Stewart, LF, #28, R/R, 25 years old
3 TRJ, B CON, B PWR, E RUN SPD, C ARM STR, C FLD, D E RES
GM REPORT: Stewart is young for the league, but has already come into his own as one of the better left fielders in the PGL. His .341 average leads the team, and his 1.05 OPS is second behind the other key player, who we will now talk about:

Jared Young, 1B, #15, S/L, 32 years old
4 TRJ, D CON, A PWR, F RUN SPD, C ARM STR, D FLD, A E RES
GM REPORT: Young is a veteran first baseman and the team's biggest power threat. He is putting together a fine season, hitting .329, with a team-leading 15 HR and 33 RBI. He's better from the right side than he is from the left, but either way, he's a force to be reckoned with. His one Achilles' heel is that he will strike out a lot, so keep that in mind.

Trevor Adams, P, #41, L/R, 31 years old
96 TOP SPD, C CTRL, D STAM Lv. 3 SLD, Lv. 2 SCB, Lv. 4 FOSH
GM REPORT: Adams has thrown the most innings (29.1) of any Senators reliever and has the lowest ERA (0.61!) of any Senators pitcher. His stuff isn't as great as other premier set-up men, but what sets him apart is his mentality on the mound. He's an extremely intimidating presence and is not afraid to go after batters. Add to that the good life on his fastball and the fact he can go multiple innings and you have one of the best setup men in all of baseball.

PROJECTED PITCHING MATCHUP:

Game 1: J. Jurrjens (3-1, 3.05) vs. Brent Cannon (103 TOP SPD, E CTRL, A STAM, Lv 5 DCB, Lv 2 SPLT; 1-5, 8.37)
Game 2: S. Marcum (5-2, 4.62) vs. Shawn King (95 TOP SPD, D CTRL, A STAM, Lv 2 CUT, Lv 4 SLV, Lv 2 PALM; 2-4, 8.20)
Game 3: A. Sanchez (3-3, 4.15) vs. Miguel Prochaska (93 TOP SPD, C CTRL, B STAM, Lv 2 2SFB, Lv 2 SLD, Lv 2 CHG; 3-3, 8.25)

This is the Slayers' last home series before they embark on a 9-game road trip lasting from the 19th to the 29th.

School starts in 2 weeks for me, and I'd just like to post that the pace of this log will go even slower because of it. I'll try to fit in as many games as possible during this weekend and next week. It'll be tough, because I'm also doing the MLB players experiment in the Japanese game, but this will have higher priority.

Just so you guys know.
