CUBS at REDS
The Reds got off to a good start on Opening day. Brandon Phillips and Stubbs started the game with a double and a single off Carlos Zambrano. Votto knocked in Phillips with a single, and Bruce grounded out, but brought Stubbs home. Arroyo shut down the Cubs until he gave up a RBI in the 7th to rookie catcher Beattie. The Reds then struck back. Reliever Bob Howry was pitching when Dusty Baker had Eckleman come and pinch hit. He crushed his first career home run, a 2 run bomb to center field. Closer Aroldis Chapman came in the 9th an picked up a save.

Story Update:
The Reds go on a night on the town to celebrate an opening day win.

The random fan dude gives the reds new drinks after he spots that their original drinks were spiked. He also volunteers to be the Designated Driver, and goes out to the car and waits.

Chapman: Well now I'm the exAct opposite of a starter.

Kennedy: Hey guys I got the stuff!

John: Wait wrong season log.

The first place Reds thought they had time to be relaxed while at the top, but they seemed a bit too relaxed out there. Starter Arroyo really fell apart out there, going 4 innings including a Prince Fielder solo shot, and giving up 4 runs and 9 hits, while Brew Crew starter Jeff Suppan gave up 5 runs in 7 innings. The Reds were ahead by 1 going into the 8th, when Heath Bell gave up 2 RBIs to Fielder. The Reds couldn't come back, and lost, 7-6.

Merluzzi: What happened out there?
Arroyo: Well, I was striking batters out left and right until Fielder stepped up. I threw a meatball up and away, and he just tore the cover off it.
Merluzzi: That home run was measured at 475, and could have gone longer, had it not bounced off a structure. How does that make you feel, getting one hit that hard?
Arroyo: Not much different than if it was only hit 370 feet. It's still 2 runs.
