Mets pound Young to take 2-1 series lead

October 8 -- The Padres will now head back to San Diego down 2 games to 1 and a loss away from elimination after the Mets shelled Young and won 7-5. The Padres got on the board in the 2nd inning on a double play ball from Hundley that scored a run but the Mets also got on the board in the 2nd with Mike Jacob's 2nd home run of this NLDS. Next inning the Padres took a 3-1 lead on RBI singles by David Eckstein and Chase Headley but the Mets answered again with an RBI triple by Luis Castillo and then an RBI double by Carlos Beltran made it 3-3. San Diego would take their 3rd, and final lead of the game in the 5th on a solo home run from Adrian Gonzalez who has homered for the 2nd time in 2 games to make it 4-3. But Chris Young gave up more runs as in the 5th he gave up a solo shot to Francouer and then a few batters later Rod Barajas got an RBI single to give the Mets their first lead of the night at 5-4. Chris Young was unable to get any outs in the 6th giving up RBI's to Jacobs and Wright to make it 7-4 Mets. Young had one of his toughest outings he's ever had giving up a career high 11 hits and gave up 7 runs in just 5 innings on a rough outing for the Padres ace down the stretch. The Padres got one more run in the 7th on a sac fly by Gonzalez but that wouldn't be enough in a 7-5 loss.

ugh before last game I had a lot of struggles to hit and now I face Johan Santana  Mat Latos goes for the Padres

And I've still never liked the NLDS setup in the game. 3 games for the higher seed in a row and then 2 in a row for the lowest seed at home. I mean Game 5 shouldn't go to the lower seed in this

My client, Mat Latos is confident that he and the rest of the team can overcome Santana and the Mets in game four.

Padres season ride ends in 10-inning loss

October 9 -- It was an incredible ride but it had to end here in 10 innings with a 7-6 loss to the Mets thus ending the Padres season. The Mets once again rocked the Padres starter, today it was Latos who was knocked around for 6 runs in 4 2/3 innings and already saw themselves down 6-1 in the 5th inning against the Mets ace Johan Santana, it was pretty much over.. or was it. Adrian Gonzalez made it 6-3 with a 2-runs single and set up runners on the corners. That's where they had Gonzo picked off at 1st but he instead got caught in a run down which helped score a run to make it 6-4. Then with no one on in the same inning it was Kyle Blanks stepping up and hitting a solo shot to make it a 1-run game and capped a great 4-run inning for the Padres, really an unthought of kind of rally. But they still trailed by 1 but thats where Gwynn singled in the tying run to make it 6-6. The game would go into the 10th and that set up Jason Bay with 2 outs to hit his 2nd home run of the game off of Heath Bell to right to give them a 7-6 lead. K-Rod got an easy 1-2-3 and got Hairston to ground out to end the game and the Padres great season.

After a long 13 inning night at PNC Park, the Pirates improbable season has ended. Carlos Beltran was a pain in the back for the Bucs today and homered in the 1st inning off of Maholm for a 1-0 lead which would turn into 3-0 in the 3rd when Franeour got his first hit of the series with a 2-run homerun to left. But injured would happen after when Castillo made a diving play but had to leave the game after being hurt and was replaced by Easley. But a big loss was Doumit who ran into the fence trying to catch a ball and had to leave the game for Jeff Clement, a lefty who is not good against lefties and faced Johan Santana tonite. The Pirates looked done but they were able to rally off of Johan in the 3rd but it looked bad with bases loaded, 2 outs and 2 strikes to the lefty Buck. Well he turned on a fastball and hit his biggest homerun as a Pirates, a grand slam to give them a 4-3 lead but Beltran would come back with an RBI groundout in the 4th to tie it. The game stayed tied until the 10th inning where Hanrahan got into the game and struggled like he did in the regular season, he gave up a go-ahead RBI double to the pesty Beltran and an RBI double by Wright to make it look well over. But no it was not over. The Pirates got 2 straight hits to start the 10th inning and with tricky baserunning loaded the bases against K-Rod. Werth would pop out for 1 out but a wild pitch by Rodriguez tied the game and gave them life and Susumu Ikari, who has had a quiet series, hit a go-ahead sac fly to tie it. But sadly good things don't last forever, Beltran did it again with a 13th inning homerun for a 7-6 lead and in the end a 7-6 win to end the NLDS. The Mets will now move on thanks to the big bat of Carlos Beltran and will face either the Cardinals or the Dodgers.
