It's not even that, it's just that swearing profusely (this goes for anything) is obnoxious

San Diego Padres (50-55) @ Pittsburgh Pirates (44-61)
July 27, 2008

Nady Hits Homer in Victory

The Pirates beat the Padres due to a three run homer by Nady. In the first inning, Nady crushed a fastball into the right field bleachers to cap off a four run inning, and that's all they would need. Maholm was dominant again, throwing a complete game and only giving up two runs, despite allowing fifteen hits. After losing five straight games last week, they have won they're last two against the Padres. But honestly, the Pirates are out of the race and have no chance at the playoffs. They would probably be best off tanking from this point and trying to secure one of the top draft picks.

Final Score
Padres: 2
Pirates: 7

W: Maholm (7-5)
SV: ---
L: Wolf (7-7)
HR: Nady (18)

1. McLouth: 2-4, R
2. Sanchez: 2-4, 2 2B, RBI, R
3. Bay: 2-4, R
4. LaRoche: 1-3, RBI, 2 R
5. Nady: 3-4, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R
6. McCann: 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI
7. Olivo: 1-4
8. Wilson: 0-4
9. Maholm: 2-3, 2B

Maholm: 9 IP, 2 ER, 15 H, 3 K

You need to call up Stanton for next year. He expects it.

Oh, I will. Any player picked in the top three deserves an immediate call-up

The Pirates didn't go 12-16 again, but they were even worse. They went 8-17 during the month, good enough for a .320 winning percentage. The pitching did much better than last month, giving up 4.72 RPG compared to 5.61 in June. Although on the other hand, their offense took a severe hit. They only scored 4.12 RPG, a huge decline from 6.11. They ended the month with a run differential of -15. And while that's not terrible, most of their runs came in severe blowouts, leaving them with almost a dozen close losses. Around the league, the Mets are still the best team and are on pace for over 110 wins, while the second place Tigers are on pace for about 99. The Nats and Pirates continue to do bad as they both had winning percentages under .350. But neither compared to the Orioles and Twins who posted .231 and .280 winning percentages, respectively.

If the Season Ended Today...
Playoffs
AL: Tigers vs. Yankees (WC), Blue Jays vs. Rangers. White Sox and Red Sox are also contenders.
NL: Mets vs. Brewers, Diamondbacks vs Braves (WC). Rockies, Giants, and Astros are also contenders.

Draft Order
1. Nationals, 2. Pirates, 3. Twins, T4. Rays, T4. Dodgers
T4. Phillies, 7. Orioles, 8. Mariners, T9. Athletics, T9. Cubs

Notable Trades
Jul 18: Jake Peavy, Cla Meredith ---> White Sox, Pablo Ozuna ---> Padres (WHY!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?)
Jul 19: Jose Bautista ---> Mariners, Brandon Morrow, R.A. Dickey ---> Pirates
Jul 23: Matt Kemp ---> Red Sox, Clay Buchholz ---> Dodgers
Jul 24: Edinson Volquez ---> White Sox, Alexei Ramirez ---> Reds
Jul 26: Billy Wagner ---> Rays, Evan Longoria ---> Mets (AGAIN, WHY!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?)
Jul 27: Angel Pagan ---> Angels, Jered Weaver ---> Mets
Jul 28: Ryan Ludwick ---> Yankees, Ian Kennedy ---> Cardinals
Jul 31: Eric Bedard ---> Tigers, Placido Polanco---> Mariners

Hey Skittles, in my log there are 6 teams from the NL above .500, and 6 from the AL. Not a severe difference like yours.

Go Brewers.

If you guys don't mind, I'm gonna go on a little rant...

WHY IS THE TRADE A.I. SO STUPID? What is wrong with the teams! The Padres are gonna trade away a Cy Young Award winner and a very solid for a reliever for a utility guy? WHY!? And then the Rays one, IT'S A LOSE-LOSE DEAL. The Rays are giving up a great young third baseman for an old closer, and the Mets are giving away their closer for a backup third baseman! WHY!? And then there are some deals that I saw but had to reload until one team rejected it because they made so little sense! Like the Mariners traded away King Felix to the Nationals for Zimmerman, despite already having Beltre and Bautista! WHY!? The Red Sox had somehow gotten Hanley and Uggla just for Ellsbury and were willing to demote Pedroia! WHY!? The Rockies had given away Tulo, just for a middle reliever and backed infielder from the Twins! WHY!? None of it makes any sense!!!

Dude, don't question the great A.l.'s methods. It's for the best. 8) Just kidding. The A.l manager is just as dumb.

Pittsburgh Pirates (42-56) @ Chicago Cubs (51-47)
August 1, 2008

Chaos Ensues After Morris Blows Lead

It was a dark day for the Pirates organization, but first, the game that lead up to it. The Pirates had gotten off to a quick start, going up 8-1 by the fifth inning. But in the bottom of the fifth, Morris imploded. He gave up eight runs off of four doubles and a triple to squander the lead. Then Yates gave up another run in the sixth to seal the loss. After the game, Morris was confronted by the Pirates coach Jason Stark in the locker room about his terrible performance. Morris didn't want to hear it and pushed Stark away, almost tipping him over. Stark then took the irrational route, grabbed the nearest bat, and struck Morris in the knee! Morris collapsed on the ground and screamed in agony over the immense pain. At the press conference after the game, Cooper Thompson addressed the media about the incident. "All we currently know right know is that Morris will never pitch another game for us, Stark is being suspended the rest of the year, and that we are ashamed that an organization as prestigious as this could stoop this low." For the rest of the season, the Pirates will use player co-managers, having Marte and Gomez split the duties.
