Putz blows second save, as Mariners fall to Atlanta.

The red hot Mariners eventually had to fall, on a five game winning streak, the club jumped above .500, but may be falling back down into a slump, they appeared to be the winners from the start-on, scoring just one run, but lights out pitching from Homer Bailey kept them in the lead for the whole game. Atlanta was kept scoreless until the bottom of the ninth, when Dana Eveland left the game, Putz came in and gave up a lead off triple, the game was over after that as Atlanta hit a double, then a single to end it.

Mariners acquire Zach Duke in blockbuster deal.

The Seattle Mariners have acquired Zach Duke and Ronny Paulino in a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Zach Duke currently has a sub 2.00 ERA, but we'll talk about that later. The Pirates also included 12 million dollars to send to the Seattle ball club. In return, the Pittsburgh Pirates receive pitcher Miguel Batista, who is having a career year, as well as catcher Kenji Johjima and pitcher Cha-Seung Baek. Zach Duke is the offspring of current major league pitcher Tom Glavine, as well as Greg Maddux, pitching runs through the family, he says.

It is assumed both new acquisitions will join the starting rotation, and lineup, for Seattle.
