Pirates Force Extras, Yet Lose

The Pirates lost a hard fought battle against the division leading Cardinals in extra innings. In the first, Albert Pujols hit a homerun to straight-away center to put the Cards up. There were no more runs to be scored until the ninth when Bay hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. But in the top of the tenth, Yates gave up a two run homer to Skip Schumaker to give up the lead, and the Pirates couldn't quite regain it in the bottom half, leaving them with the loss.

Pirates Strike Deals

The Pirates have hashed out two deals to help them stay afloat for the rest of the season. In the first, they acquired Brian McCann from the Tigers in exchange for Tom Gorzelanny and Franquelis Osoria. McCann arrived in Detroit at the end of last month, but had been sitting in their minor league system since. He'll probably split time between catcher and third base for the rest of the season due to the departure of Jose Bautista. Bautista was shipped to the Mariners in exchange for Brandon Morrow, R.A. Dickey, and 500 points. He looks to provide depth in Seattle behind their best two players, Adrian Beltre and Ichiro Suzuki.

That's funny. I tried to get both Brandon Morrow and R.A. Dickey in the Stranglers log along with 500 points, but it got rejected.

Really? Because that deal was four stars and it got accepted the next day.

Oh well. I didn't really need them. I'm just trying to dump my good/great pitchers that I underuse.
