Your abilities increase as long as you practice, and you can buy stuff to make it improve faster

Mainly Success. I start a lot of Seasons but never finish them.

I get the impression most posters do success mode over and over. Frankly, I love playing the seasons; don't really have an interest in the others

I play about 49% season and success, then 2% MLB Life.

I am also a big fan of season mode.

Is there anyone out there who uses normal batting (ie, doesn't have the computer help out with hitting) and also does NOT have the computer pitcher show the pitch type and location? I can't imagine how I would ever make contact if I didn't know the pitch type before the ball left the pitchers hand.

I personally have the default lock on (2 if i am correct) and rely on the spin of the ball to determine the pitch. Also once you see the pitcher throw enough you can predict his pattern, which is why i like to take a lot of pitches first few innings.

Will try your pitch improving technique today, might turn out to be very useful.

I have a trading technique that has proven quite successful. I only trade for/with points, be it trading away or for a player. It makes it much more clear what the value of the player is, rather than having to try every single guy on your/their roster and see who the other team wants

Btw got any other player suggestions? Personally always get Fielder first(young & cheap with awesome power)

As free agents, there are 2 scrubs I like a lot, but I forget their names. One is a 3b with a Spanish name. Most of his ratings are e's, but he has a B arm, so I like him as a 3b or back up 3b. There's also a "great" something with mostly Es, but a D defense who can play left and 2b. If you're playing an expansion team, I like players who can play multiple spots so I can carry an extra pitcher.

As for trades, I like Brendan Harris from the twins (good offense, mediocre defense, plays multiple infield spots) and great hart - a minor league player with the white sox who is really good offensively, has a B arm, and plays 3b and LF.

The first guy is Angel Sanchez and I think the second guy is Great White.

In my current season, I've had 3 players suffer injuries. No big deal, except that NONE of these injuries occurred in a game. I've had 1 pitcher and 2 position players get injured. They were fine on the last game they played,* but when I started the next game and saw they were not in the lineup, I noticed their green icon.

Has that ever happened to you? I've played about 7 seasons before and have only incurred in-game injuries.

* when I say they were fine, I mean they didn't even incur some sort of contact that required them to be checked out. You know, when there's a timeout and the announcer says "It looks like they're ok to stay in the game" - not even that occurred.

A question for all you season mode players that sim a lot of your games: WHAT DO YOU DO TO MAKE SURE YOUR CLOSER IS ONLY USED IN SAVE SITUATIONS?

My main problem with simming is that it kills my closer! I prefer to only bring in my closer in save situations, but when I sim, the closer gets brought in Whenever I have a lead in the ninth inning. Even if I am winning in a blowout.

Towards the end of my last blog with the country, what I started doing is setting the computer so that even during simmed games, it paused and let me know when my closer was coming in. Of course, it only notified me After the fact so he had to face at least one pitcher before being pulled; and frankly, if I was up by five or four runs, I was nervous about pulling him because then I just lost my closer.

Another tactic I tried was taking my pitcher settings and moving my closer from the "closer" slot to the "set up man" slot, generally having two pictures in the set up man slot and hoping the computer would just use whoever was in better condition

RE: Closer pitching in non-close situations.

It's unavoidable. If the closer is even remotely fresh and you are winning by 1 run or 10, he will be used. You can minimize it a little. You already know most of what I'm about to say, but others might not.

Sim tips for the pitching staff:
1) Use a 12-man configuration.
2) At least one long guy(s) should have legitimate starter stamina.
3) Avoid the Lefty Specialist slot - that pitcher will hardly ever be used by the AI, even when he is the freshest guy available.
4) Add Recovery 4 to most SP's and workhorse RP's throughout the league. Without it, starters fail to recover in time for their next start and bullpens are ground to dust.

Recommended configurations:
a) 5 SP, 1 SS, 1 LR, 2 MR, 2 SU, 1 CL.
b) 5 SP, 1 LR, 2 MR, 1 MU, 2 SU, 1 CL.
c) 6 SP, 1 LR, 2 MR, 2 SU, 1 CL.

Wow! You got it down to a science! What does MU stand for (from your item B)?

Your item 4 is interesting – you go through and adjust every starting pitcher to have RP four? Not just the starters on your team? How..."fair" of you!!!
