San Francisco Giants (1-2) @ Milwaukee Brewers (2-1)

April 4, 2011

SAN FRANCISCO - The Giants got their offense going early off Chris Narveson. Andres Torres lead the game off with a double, moved over to third on a single by Freddy Sanchez, and scored on a three-run bomb by Pat Burrell, his first of the year. "Pat the Bat" would strike again in the Giants' half of the 3rd, scoring Andres Torres on a sac fly. The Brewers were able to load the bases in their half of the 3rd, but the surprisingly effective Ryan Vogelsong was able to shut down their big boys, Prince Fielder and Ryan Braun, back-to-back on pop flies to get out of the inning. The Brew Crew would once again load the bases for their 3-4 combo, but were set down on pop flies a second time. Milwaukee would finally get to Vogelsong the next inning, when reliever Manny Parra singled through the hole into center field and scored Yuniesky Betancourt from second. Prince Fielder kept the Brewers alive with the second of back-to-back doubles to start off the 7th, the first coming from Felipe Lopez. That would do it for Vogelsong, but the Brewers kept on going when Jeremy Affeldt came into the game. He was able to get Ryan Braun to lineout and strike out Yuniesky Betancourt, but then allowed a double to speedster Carlos Gomez that scored Fielder. "Kung Fu Panda" would get both of the runs back on a double that scored Pat Burrell and Buster Posey. It was all Brian Wilson would need to shut the door on the Brewers.

Final Score:

Gomez is injured right now, I don't know if you're doing injuries in the lineups. And Lincecum looks soooo scary in that picture.

I only take guys out of lineups/rotations if there's season-ending injuries. With guys that have short-term injuries, I just stick with what the rotation/lineup would be like if they weren't injured. EX. Wainwright is in AAA for STL, K.Morales for LAA, etc are sent down to AAA.

San Diego Padres (4-3) @ San Francisco Giants (4-2)

April 7, 2011

SAN FRANCISCO - This one was a pitchers duel all the way. The two teams had a combined 9 hits through the first 4 2/3 innings. Eli Whiteside, filling in for Buster Posey (batting .095 this season), finally broke the tie with a single up the middle off Tim Stauffer that scored Nate Schierholtz, who had doubled before him. San Diego would tie it up an inning later off Matt Cain, when Chris Denorfia doubled and later scored on a second double, this one coming from Chase Headley. Each team had plenty more chances to score, but neither took advantage and headed to extra innings. Cody Ross, the hero of the Giants 2010 postseason run, ended the game very abruptly with a shot into the left field stands to win the game in the bottom of the 10th.

Ok, then what happened? Is that the game? 4-2, Cardinals winning, right?

St. Louis Cardinals (3-6) @ San Francisco Giants (6-3)

April 10, 2011

SAN FRANCISCO - The Cardinals, who are the toughest offense the Giants have faced so far this season, were quick to jump on spot starter Kirk Saarloos. Matt Holliday put up the 'Cards first run, hitting the second of consecutive doubles, after Albert Pujols. Pujols scored from second despite a strong throw from the cannon-armed Nate Schierholtz, and Holliday reached second despite a strong throw from home plate by Buster Posey. Lance Berkman hit the third straight double, lacing one down the left field line and scoring Holliday. Nick Punto kept it going, hitting a double that scored Berkman. As the Giants attempted to cut the lead, Freddy Sanchez left the game with an injury. Sanchez got hurt when sliding back to second on a pop fly, and was replaced by Mike Fontenot. Buster Posey helped the Giants feel a little better about it, hitting a two-run blast to left field. San Francisco suffered another loss as Saarloos left the game with elbow pain. He was replaced by Ramon Ramirez, and his status will be updated as soon as more is known. The Cardinals got one of the runs back later in the 3rd, when Albert Pujols was intentionally walked and moved to third on a second double by Matt Holliday. Nick Punto collected his second RBI, reaching on an infield single and sending Pujols home. Yadier Molina got the second run back, when Emmanuel Burriss misplayed an grounder that bounced over the mound. It didn't get any easier for Santiago Casilla, who took Ramon Ramirez's spot on the mound the next inning. Just when it looked like it was going to be an easy inning, Corey Patterson notched a two-out single. He would be knocked in on a huge two-run bomb by Albert Pujols to extend St. Louis' lead to five. Buster Posey cut the deficit once again, hitting a second homer, both no-doubters to left field. Aubrey Huff and Nate Schierholtz continued the rally, hitting back-to-back doubles, Schierholtz's scoring Huff. Jeff Keppinger singled, but Schierholtz held up at third. Emmanuel Burriss wouldn't redeem his earlier mental error, flying out and keeping the runners where they were. Pablo Sandoval would pinch hit, knocking in Schierholtz with a double of his own, and decreasing the Cardinals once steep lead to just two. The rally would end shortly after, as Edwin Jackson was able to get the next two batters to ground out. Carlos Beltran would lead the way as the Giants continued to mount a comeback. Beltran looped one into right field that dropped in between Lance Berkman and Corey Patterson for a double. He would be held at second as Buster Posey flew out to center, but would score on a single by Aubrey Huff. The second rally was ended rather quickly a second time, as Edwin Jackson (who had still remained in the game although it was 7-6) got Nate Schierholtz to fly out and Jeff Keppinger to pop up to the catcher. The Giants had another chance in the bottom of the 6th, but made some dumb baserunning moves and Pat Burrell flew out as a pinch-hitter with two outs. Sergio Romo proved to be very clutch, retiring the Cardinals best three hitters in order, including a strike out of Albert Pujols. San Francisco tried for another rally in the bottom of the 7th, with Carlos Beltran being the first batter. Beltran would fly out, and then Buster Posey and Aubrey Huff both singled. Nate Schierholtz would fly out as well, leaving it all down to Jeff Keppinger. Keppinger provided the game-tying single, scoring Schierholtz on a light single to center field just in front of Corey Patterson. That would be all the Giants could get, but Sergio Romo held the tie down in the top of the 8th, once again setting down three Redbirds in a row. Both teams were held scoreless, and in the bottom of the 10th, the Giants had all but sealed the Cardinals fate. Pablo Sandoval singled with one out, and pinch-hitter Eli Whiteside, the last man on the Giants bench, doubled to left field. Sandoval could have scored because the throw in to the infield was slow, and was stranded there as Cody Ross and Carlos Beltran both grounded out. It was the perfect time for "The Beard" to be himself again. And he was, setting down the Cardinals in order. Unfortunately, the offense didn't repay him. He would shut down the next three Cardinals, leaving it up to his offense again. Emmanuel Burriss hit a double off the wall to start off the bottom of the 12th. Pablo Sandoval was intentionally walked to get to the pitchers' spot. What is Bruce Bochy to do now? Let Wilson bat? He did, and it paid off. Wilson smacked one right back to reliever Ron Mahay, who was stunned but made the force throw to 2nd.Wilson was safe at first, and Burriss moved over to third. Cody Ross played hero AGAIN, hitting a dribbler that got by former Giant Mark DeRosa to score Burriss and give the Giants the win in a game that will be remembered for a long time.
