Good news is I was only one game in, so it's not like the file became corrupted a few games into August.

Dude, if your file gets corrupted, don't delete it. Restart the game and see if it works again. It usually does. If it doesn't, then you can delete it.

One time I got an error message thing saying a file was corrupted or something. I just couldn't save the 2000 points from playing the game. I was still able to save my season mode file.
