MR. SEPTEMBER
Jack Cust has been on fire since the start of September. In 9 games, he has raised his batting average 10 points from .237 to .247, hit 5 homeruns and drove in 11 runs. He also has 5 doubles in his past two games.

Huge 4 game series
The Athletics start a 4 game series with the Texas Rangers today. The Rangers are currently 5 games back of first place in the AL West, and 4 games back in the AL Wild Card race. The two teams do match up in a 3 game series later this month too, but if the Rangers can't do anything this series their playoff hopes may be dashed.

Duchscherer to lose rotation spot?
There's been rumblings around the A's clubhouse that Justin Duchscherer may be close to losing his spot in the roatation. He currently has a 5.19 ERA on the year. Dana Eveland is getting a spot start today because none of the regular starters are ready to go, and if he performs well the A's manager will have to make a tough decision on who he keeps in the rotation.

Kevin Millwood vs. Dana Eveland

Dana Eveland started the game off pretty nice, but got into trouble in the 3rd. With two on, and Josh Hamilton at the plate Eveland made a mistake with a fastball and Hamilton hit it off the left field foul pole for a 3 run homerun, his 23rd on the year. Bottom 3, Felipe Lopez led the inning off with a double to right field. Emil Brown drove him home with a single, but Lopez was in a collision with the catcher and was injured, Donnie Murphy replaced him at short. Chris Denorfia would make the game a 1 run game with an RBI single in the 6th. The Rangers went off in the 7th, scoring 4 runs and putting the game out of reach. They would add two more runs later. Emil Brown hit a solo homerun, his 13th, in the bottom of the 9th, but it was not enough and the A's lost 8-4. Donnie Murphy went 2-3 in place of Lopez, but made an error at short. After the game the A's learned that Lopez was okay and wouldn't miss any time. Rajai Davis had his 16 game hit streak snapped.

So halfway through this game I accidentally pushed fast play, and didn't know how to get out of it so I accidentally simmed through the rest of the game. I was PO'd at first because I thought I lost, so I didn't copy down the stats. Then when I got to the main screen I realized I won 7-5. I will post the homeruns though.

Hank Blalock picked up another RBI on a base hit in the 5th inning. The Athletics once again answered back on an Emil Brown RBI double to tie the game at 3. In the 7th, Emil Brown picked up his 3rd RBI on the night with a base hit to left field. After base hits by Daric Barton and Chase Utley, Kurt Suzuki steps up to the plate with bases loaded. He gets a great pitch to hit and drills it deep and gone to left field for his 19th homerun of the season, and his 100th RBI. Jack Cust hit a homerun the very next pitch, his 24th.

Eveland didn't fair much better, giving up a solo homerun to Vlad, and RBI singles to Torii Hunter and Mike Napoli in the 5th inning as the Angels went up 6-0. The Athletics would make it interesting in the bottom of the 5th, scoring 4 runs, but weren't able to get anything else going the rest of the game and lost 6-4.

Big Series ahead
The Oakland Athletics start a 3 game series with the 2nd place Seattle Mariners tonight. This is a huge series for both teams, because the A's can get some coushin or they could lose 1st place. After this 3 game set the A's go to Texas for a 3 game series and the Mariners face off with the Angels in a 4 game series. Then these two teams face off again in the final 3 games of the season at Safeco Field. This thing could come down to the final game of the year, and what better way to decide it than have the two teams face each other?
