The A's pitching overwhelmed the Blue Jay batters once again. John Odom earned his first win of the season, by pitching a, 21 K, 5-hit shutout. Bert Campaneris lead off the game with a triple. Dick Green then singled him home for the first run of the game. In the top of the 4th, Baker doubled to score another run to make the score 2-0. Then in the top of the 6th, Baker was at it again as he singled in the final run of the game, 3-0. McNamara said that he's excited that the pitching staff has been dominate as of late and getting enough run support. He hopes that the great play continues.

WP Odom (1-0)
LP Jeff Byrd (0-2)

A's record 8-2

After 10 games the A's are leading the AL West with a record of 8 wins and 2 losses. The Mariners aren't that far behind with a record of 7 wins and 3 losses (1 game back). The Rangers are in third with a record of 4 wins and 5 losses (3.5 games back). Finally, the Angels are in the cellar with a record of 4 wins and 6 losses (4 games back).

I didn't realize that the pitchers in this season are dominating. I predict that there will be more perfect games this season, because the pitching so far dictates it. Home runs are few and far between so far.

*Side note*
I'm having alot of fun doing this. I've only manually played one game so far and may play a few more later on. I hope your enjoying this and continue reading this log as the season keeps on plugging along.

For now I am. My pitching staff has been solid, but wish the bats would wake up though.

Jim Roland gave up a 2-run homer to Ray Fosse in the bottom of the 1st. That's all Bill Hand (Cleveland's pitcher) needed. Hand took care of the A's batters by hurling a 17 K, 2-hit shutout. This loss snapped the A's 3-game winning streak. McNamara said that they just ran into a brick wall today.

WP Bill Hand (1-0)
LP Jim Roland (1-2)

A's record 8-3

Lefty Grove took the hill for the A's and didn't know he was going to pitch 11 innings. McGwire started the scoring by hitting a solo homer off of Sam McDowell in the top of the 1st. In the bottom of the 6th, Larry Doby hit a solo shot to tie the game at 1 a piece. With the game tied 1-1, the game went into extra innings. Grove was taken out for Bender, before the Indians batted in the 12th. In the top of the 13th, Rick Monday hit a go ahead 2-run homer to give the A's a 3-1 lead. Then, Bender shut down the Indian batters give the A's a 3-1 victory. McNamara said that he was surprised that Grove could go 11 innings. Monday said that he was happy to hit his 1st homer of the season while leading the A's to a victory.

WP Bender (3-0)
LP Fred Lasher (0-2)

A's record 9-3

Dean Chance pitched a shutout against the A's to get his 1st victory of the season. Chance was on his game as he struck out 14 and gave up only 3-hits. In the bottom of the 4th, Lou Boudreau singled in the only run of the game. Vida Blue pitched well for the A's going 8 innings, but the A's batters couldn't give him any support. In the top of the 9th, Jackson had a chance to tie the game(runners on 1st and 2nd), but struck out to the end the game.

WP Dean Chance (1-1)
LP Blue (0-2)

A's record 9-4

Eckersley took the mound looking for his 3rd win of the season. In the top of the 5th, Cochrane hit a 3-run homer to put the A's ahead. In the bottom of the 7th, Bill Melton answered w/ a solo homer to cut the lead to 2. Jackson then stretched the A's lead to 4 as he hit a 2-run homer in the 8th. Eckersley took the 5-1, lead into the bottom of the ninth, but was rocked. Frank Thomas singled to score a run. Then Fisk doubled to score 2 more runs to make the score 5-4. That made McNamara nervous, so he replaced Eck w/ Hunter. Hunter than struck out the last two batters to get the save and Eck his 3rd win.

WP Eckersley (3-0)
LP Joe Horlen (1-2)
SV Hunter (1)

A's record 10-4

Dobson was looking to become the 2nd person to pitch consecutive no-hitters since Johnny Vandermeer did it w/ the Cincinnatti Reds in 1936. Dobson's bid for his 2nd no-hitter came at the bottom of the 6th inning. Then, the hometown crowd gave him a standing ovation for his effort. But, that was shortlived as the the Sox's bats came alive. Luis Aparacio doubled in 2 runs to make the score 2-0. Nellie Fox doubled in a score to make the score 3-0. Then, Frank Thomas and Bill Melton each singled in a run to end the scoring for the White Sox. Top of the 8th, Baker hit a solo homer to bring the final score 5-1. Dobson said that he was disappointed on how he pitched today. McNamara said that's how it goes sometimes.

W Floyd Weaver (1-0)
L Pat Dobson (2-1)

A's record: 10-5

Jim Beattie took control of the A's batters w/ a 17-K, 2-hit shutout. The game's only runs were on back to back homers from Bruce Bochte and Alex Rodriguez in the 7th. McNamara said that his team has a terrible habit of being shutout and held to a handful of hits.

W J. Beattie (3-0)
L C. Hunter (0-1)

A's record: 10-6
