I'm hoping to acquire the best catcher in the game when he's healthy... Joe Mauer. It's going to take awhile (he has to be healthy first), but I'm willing to part with a few pitching prospects.

Boston bested by Tampa Bay

In a decisive three game series against the Tampa Bay Rays, Boston blew it. However, it wasn't the offense's fault. Boston's starters, primary Masterson and Lester, were unable to keep the game close enough for the offense to rebound. Also, the bullpen didn't help matters either. In game three, Javier Lopez gave up seven runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Josh Beckett was dominant for the Sox, though. In game one, the Boston ace kept the Rays' hitters guessing all night. He surrendered one run in eight innings while striking out six. He's on pace to strikeout two hundred and sixteen batters as it stands. Masterson is leaving a ton to be desired as it stands. In 0.2 innings he surrendered three runs before being taken out of the game complaining of a sore hamstring. He's been listed as day-to-day. Also, Jon Lester, who is leading the Red Sox in strikeouts with seven, gave up five runs in five innings.

The Boston offense isn't doing anything spectacular either. Only three batters are batting at or above .300 - Kevin Youkilis, Mike Lowell, and Jacoby Ellsburry. Lowell has one home run on the season. And J.D Drew is leading the team in ribbis with three. He's counted for most of the Sox's offensive production for the year...

Let's see how good Adenhart can be. It's a shame he died so young.

Bowden and Mauer Swapped

The Red Sox and Twins have been engaged in a little wheeling and dealing. They have just concluded a trade with 22-year-old minor league starting pitcher Michael Bowden, 37-year-old catcher Jason Varitek and 26-year-old minor league catcher Dusty Brown going to Minnesota in exchange for 26-year-old catcher Joe Mauer.

Mauer's career batting average is .317. In 561 games, he has gotten 653 hits, 44 home runs, 301 RBIs and scored 325 runs.

MLB Blockbuster: Votto and Ortiz Swap Teams

The Boston Red Sox swapped 33-year-old designated hitter David Ortiz, 23-year-old minor league starting pitcher Nick Hagadone, 31-year-old minor league reliever Devern Hansack and 29-year-old minor league reliever Charlie Zink for 25-year-old first baseman Joey Votto and 22-year-old starting pitcher Homer Bailey of the Reds after what Cincinnati officials would only characterize as "difficult" negotiations.

So far in 2009 Ortiz is batting .268 with no home runs, 7 RBIs and 5 runs scored. He has 15 hits in 56 at-bats and a .364 OBP.

Votto is hitting .375 for the season with 5 home runs, 13 RBIs and 14 runs scored. He has 24 hits in 64 at-bats and played in 16 games.

I'd appreciate any feedback at all on the trades. :)

The Votto deal is my personal favorite. I give up a pitching prospect, acquire a pitching prospect, get rid of an old slugger for an even younger one, and win ball games. :)

With Lowrie out for atleast two more weeks, I should. Lugo is currently platooning at short for me, while Green is at second. I've lost Pedroia, Jacobye ,Drew, and Lowrie so far this year.

I don't know who to go for at short. I was thinking of going for Alexei Ramirez or JJ Hardy, but I don't want to give up anymore prospects other than Bailey who I have no room for..

Votto, Mauer Combine to Lead Sox over Yanks

The Red Sox and Yankees went all out today. The Yankees, who are currently in forth place in the AL East, were only able to combine for one run in sixteen innings! However, Boston's newest players, Joe Mauer and Joey Votto, were able to drive in a run a piece, which was enough to put Boston over New York. Joe Mauer, who went four for seven, spoke with reporters after the game:

"It's good to win any game," Mauer said, "But to win a game against the Yankees is great. We all played great. The pen did a fantastic job keeping us in it." Joe Mauer was a key defensive player in the game, too. In the fourteenth inning, Johnny Damon tried stealing third, but because of Mauer's fantastic arm, they were able to gun him down.

So far this season, Boston is 6-10. They're seven games behind the Blue Jays...

J.D Drew exited the game in the forth inning complaining of back pain, MRIs revealed he has a herniated disk in his back. He's expected to miss four weeks.

Any suggestions on what shortstop I should go after? I'm thinking O-Cab. He has great defense.
