The Nationals finished the rest of the week at 2-3, losing the final two games in Philadelphia and taking 2 of 3 from the Cardinals in St. Louis. The Nationals returned home and lost the first game of a three game set to the Florida Marlins. Before the game, 1B Nick Johnson was announced as the NL's Opening Week MVP offensively, hitting .419 with 7 homers and 14 RBI's. Shaun Hill got the start for Washington in the second game on Wednesday night after a day off on Tuesday. He went up against young southpaw Andrew Miller.Dmitri Young is mobbed by his teammates after hitting a walkoff double in extras.

In a pitcher's duel, Miller appeared to have out dueled Hill until Ryan Zimmerman homered to tie the game at one with two outs in the 8th. The game went to extras, where in the 10th, Hanley Ramirez singled in Dan Uggla and Florida eventually loaded up the bases against Chad Cordero, but Jon Rauch struck out the next two batters to send the game to the bottom of the frame, where Dmitri Young came off the bench to smack a walk-off double to send the fans home happy.
