Sacramento Slayers 11 - Louisville Dragons 4

SUMMARY: The Slayers' bats look like they've warmed up again, in a 7-run blowout of the Dragons. The scoring started in the bottom of the first, when Bautista hit a sac fly to LF. However, a big 2nd inning was the most notable part of the game. Jeff Francoeur led off the inning with a double, and Kurt Suzuki hit a double of his own to drive him in. 2 batters later, CJ Wilson hit a single into right field to put runners on the corners with one out. Martin Prado, who had already extended his hitting streak in the first inning, hit a 3-run line drive home run over the left field wall to give the Slayers a 4-0 lead. After Ben Zobrist got on with a double, Jose Bautista drove him in with a 488-foot blast over the left field wall to extend the lead to 6-0, knocking starter Clark Campbell out of the game. All in all, the Slayers scored 6 runs in the inning. The extra day off worked out very well for C.J. Wilson, as he pitched 7 innings of 3-run ball for his 4th win of the season. David Aardsma finished the game off despite allowing a 508-foot bomb to first baseman Jacob Bell.

I mentioned doing Power rankings at the end of every week earlier in the thread. I am now changing it to the end of every month. Hopefully you guys are alright with this. The Slayers look to win the series tomorrow. Also, after yet another poor performance at the plate, Franklin Gutierrez will be benched for the last game of the series and the entire next series in favor of Adam Jones.

Sacramento Slayers 4 - Louisville Dragons 3

SUMMARY: It was a very good series finale to watch today, as the Slayers squeak by the Dragons thanks to some late-inning heroics. In the bottom of the first, Adam Lind singled into center field to give the Slayers a 1-0 lead. The next batter, Michael Morse, hit a home run to left field to give the Slayers an early 3-0 lead. Dragons starter Mickey Belmont would settle down from there, only giving up 2 more hits and pitching 8 innings, allowing just those 3 runs. In the meantime, left fielder Richard Spikes would drive in 2 runs in the top of the 5th via a single into center field. In the next inning, first baseman Jacob Bell hit an RBI double to drive in Alex Warner, tying the game at 3. The Slayers bullpen would shut it down from there, allowing 0 runs and 2 hits in innings 7-10. In the bottom of the 10th, after Adam Jones doubled into the right field gap (starting him has already paid off!), pinch hitter Rod Barajas hit a hanging slurve from reliever Ricky Porter into the left-field gap for a walk-off single. Things are going great for the Slayers as they head into their next series leading the division.

UPCOMING SERIES

Sacramento Slayers (17-9) vs Salt Lake Sting (13-13)

The Slayers head into this series leading the NL West by .5 games over the Las Vegas Gamblers. They are 4 games up over the 4th place Sting, who they play for the first time this season. This 3-game series will be the last series the Slayers play in April. Let's hope they can finish the month strong. Here are the Sting players that we need to watch out for:

Austin Grant, C, #14, R/R, 25 years old
3 TRJ, C CON, B PWR, C RUN SPD, B ARM STR, C FLD, D E RES
GM REPORT: Slayers pitching so far has had a hard time dealing with leadoff men with good contact. Grant looks to be no exception to the rule here. The whole league has a hard time pitching to him, as he has a .410 batting average, good for 9th in the NL and second among catchers in both leagues. He is part of a formidable 1-2-3 force at the top of the Sting lineup.

Daniel Bacon, 2B, #21, L/R, 28 years old
3 TRJ, A CON, B PWR, C RUN SPD, D ARM STR, B FLD, A E RES
GM REPORT: Bacon is right behind Grant in the BA leaderboards, hitting .396, which is good for 11th in the NL. He is the third batter in the previously mentioned 1-2-3 punch. Bacon is also one of the best defenders in the league, so he can hurt you in many ways.

Kerry Carter, 1B, #58, L/R, 32 years old
3 TRJ, B CON, C PWR, F RUN SPD, C ARM STR, C FLD, B E RES
GM REPORT: Carter is the second batter in the Sting lineup. He packs little punch for a 1B (0 homers this year) but is one of the top comtact hitters in the game with a .361 average. He can easily split the gaps of Panpaka, which is troubling, especially if Grant gets on before him.

PROJECTED PITCHING MATCHUP:

Game 1: J. Jurrjens (3-1, 3.09) vs. Robin Holmes (96 TOP SPD, B CTRL, A STAM, Lv 2 2SFB, Lv 5 SLD, Lv 6 SLV; 0-1, 4.97)
Game 2: A. Sanchez (1-2, 4.50) vs. Gabe Grant (92 TOP SPD, B CTRL, A STAM, Lv 3 CHG, Lv 4 CB, Lv 4 SLD, Lv 3 SNK; 1-2, 6.59)
Game 3: S. Marcum (4-1, 3.69) vs. Walt Hall (96 TOP SPD, Lv 2 2SFB, Lv 3 SLD, Lv 1 SCB, Lv 3 SIFB; 1-1, 8.74)

Sorry for yet another hiatus.

4-28-08

Sacramento Slayers 3 - Salt Lake Sting 2

SUMMARY: What a way to start off the last series of the month! It was a great pitchers duel between two aces, the Slayers' Jair Jurrjens and the Sting's Robin Holmes. The Sting scored first in the top of the 4th, when left fielder Harold Crosby hit a bloop single into left field to drive in a run. In the bottom of the same inning, Mike Morse grounded out so shortstop, which drove in Jose Bautista, who had led off the inning with a double. In the bottom of the 7th, Adam Lind gave the Slayers a 2-1 lead with a home run to left field. The lead looked to hold up in the top of the 8th, when Jurrjens had second baseman Daniel Bacon 1-1 with 2 outs. Jurrjens got Bacon to hit a popup behind home plate. However, Kurt Suzuki misplayed the ball, which gave Bacon new life at the plate. He then hit the next offering over the left-center field wall, tying the game up at 2. The 8th was Jurrjens' last inning, so he could not get the win, which he deserved. The Sting manager decided to leave Holmes in to pitch the 9th. It would prove to be costly, as Adam Lind hit the first pitch of the inning over the right field wall for his 2nd home run of the game, and the Slayers' 3rd consecutive win.

Sacramento Slayers 5 - Salt Lake Sting 2

SUMMARY: The Slayers keep on rolling in a victory over the Sting. Adam Lind, the hero of yesterday's game, drove in the first run in the bottom of the first with a double into the right field corner. This would be the only run scored until the 7th inning, as both Anibal Sanchez and Gabe Grant pitched very well for their respective teams. In the 7th, Jeff Francoeur drove in an insurance run with a double, scoring Lind. Anibal Sanchez pitched amazing, throwing 8 shutout innings for the Slayers. He would be pinch-hit for by Kevin Millar in the bottom of the 8th, who got heem (heem being Grant) for a pinch-hit leadoff triple to left-center. Martin Prado would follow that up with a triple into right-center, driving in Millar. Ben Zobrist singled him in for a 4-0 lead. The Slayers would go on to score one more run in the inning, taking a 5-0 lead into the top of the 9th. Brian Wilson gave up 2 runs in that inning, but still finished the game off. He did not collect a save, but he still leads the league (last I checked) with 8 saves.

After 1 month, Slayers hitting looks to have finally figured out that splitting the gaps of Panpaka is the best strategy to have. They look to get their 5th straight win tomorrow, sweep the Sting, and finish the month and homestand off with a bang.

SLAYERS NOTIFICATION

The Sting will not be starting Walt Hall on the series finale. Vaughn Riley will take his place. Here's a look at his abilities.

91 TOP SPD, G CTRL, B STAM, CHG 3, CB 4.

It looks like the Slayers have lucked out here, as Riley seems to be an inferior pitcher compared to Hall.

Can you explain how you made the 28 other teams? This looks really interesting and I want to try something like this in my game

So you just randomly came up with stats and names for all the teams?

So you just randomly came up with stats and names for all the teams?

That's exactly what I did.

I know I'm very late but I just looked at you log (the one in your sig) and noticed one of the teams are the Ham Bones. Nice name. I like it.

Are you saying it's wrong to talk to a bag of Skittles? Because if so, I'm going to need to rethink a lot of things. :P

Give them ringpops and let them cut up to their spot in line during lunch.

Was Vaughn Riley edited from Mark Prior? Those are almost his exact stats.

Jeez how do I know that?
