It's an acronym, using the initials of my hometown, and then Television Network., But, if you want to go with that, go ahead. ;)

I thought it had something to do with Toronto since they're from Vancouver, then again, it could be Transylvania. :)

Well...sure, let's go with that.

I may get another game update tomorrow, since my school has an early release day Monday.

April 7, 2012

Matchup: Bannister (0-0) vs. Sabathia (1-0, 3.00 ERA)

NOTE:
Due to MLBPPWorld not being rested enough for his next start, Ian Bannister will take his start today. MLBPPWorld should be ready to pitch by the next game. GM Robert Tomlinson has already pondered expanding to a 6-man rotation, because of this revelation. (EDITOR'S NOTE: I think I can just envision PPJ's reaction right now: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3ALwKeSEYs)

Final
Vancouver Mendenhals 2
New York Yankees 1

W - Bannister (1-0)
L - Sabathia (1-1)
S - Seville (1)
HR - Bartlett (1), Rodriguez (2)
RBI - Bartlett (3), Barnes (4), Rodriguez (1)

Top performers:

Mendenhals:
Bartlett: 2-4, HR, RBI, Run, K
Bannister: 5.2 IP, 8 H, 1 R/ER, 10 K, HR

Yankees:
Cano: 2-4, 2B
Sabathia: 8.1 IP, 8 H, 2 R/ER, 5 K, HR

Other scores on April 7:
In AL East:

Red Sox defeat the Blue Jays 6-4

Blowouts (wins of 10+ runs):
Other than the Orioles/Rays game, not much.

April 8, 2012

PITCHING MATCHUP:
MLBPPWorld (0-1, 3.86 ERA) vs. Kuroda (0-0, 1.93 ERA)

Mendenhals Survive Late Yankee Rally to Defeat Bombers 6-5

VANCOUVER, B.C., CANADA - The Mendenhals made it interesting in the last two innings, but held on to win against Hiroki Kuroda and the New York Yankees, 6-5.

MLBPPWorld, the Mens starter, had a decent outing tonight, lasting 7, but surprisingly only striking out 4. "With an offense like the Yankees," MLBPPWorld reminded us after the game, "you're not gonna have an Ian Bannister-type outing like we got yesterday."

The pitching matchup against Kuroda, who just missed out on a win in his last start, lived up to its billing, even with both starters at blue and purple condition throughout the game. The scoring started in the 4th inning, with 2 on and 2 out, when Steve Barnes lined a single into right field to score Scuba Steve, giving them the lead, 1-0. After that run scored, however, Kuroda's day was done, due to fatigue.

Scuba Steve then got an RBI of his own in the top of the 6th inning, when he smacked another RBI single to right field, scoring Derek Wayne, giving them a 2-0 lead.

The Mendenhals would then blow it wide open, or so they thought, in the 7th inning, when Daniel Potter blooped a single right in front of Granderson in right-center field, with 2 outs, scoring Will Adams, who previously stole 2nd, making it 3-0. Potter then proceeded to steal a base, which set up the stage for Tim Inidator to softly line a single past a backed-up Yankees infield, scoring Potter, making the score 4-0. After Bartlett got a single to put runners on the corners, Derek Wayne hit a gap shot into right-center field, putting the game seemingly out of reach for the Yankees, 6-0.

Things would take a turn for the worse in the next half-inning. Manager Becky Fox made the decision to keep MLBPPWorld to try to get through the 7th inning, but that plan backfired in a way. The Yankees then proceeded to lead off the inning with back-to-back home runs from Nick Swisher (2) and Raul Ibanez (1), the latter of which found the upper deck in right field, travelling 462 feet off a mistake pitch, making the score 6-2. He then settled down to complete the inning.

The Mendenhals made the decision to bring in Steve Durham for the 8th inning, in for already his 4th appearance this season. He got the first out of the inning, but then gave up back-to-back singles by Rodriguez and Cano, which eventually led to, after a Teixiera strikeout, an Andruw Jones 3-run Home Run (1), which barely cleared the left-center field wall, making the score 6-5. Cy Seville then shut the Yanks down for the last 4 outs of the game (the Mens didn't score in the 9th) to notch his 2nd save in as many days.

W - MLBPPWorld (1-1)
L - Kuroda (0-1)
S - Seville (2)

Box Score:
Mendenhals:
-Adams: 1-5, Run, K, SB
-Bernard: 2-5, 2 K

Yeah, I'm seriously considering expanding the rotation to 6 to fit him in. He struck out the side (well, sorta, I say that because he struck out 3 in an inning) in the first two, and almost did so in the third. I wasn't surprised when he got tired in the 6th, and had to pull him after the A-Rod HR.
