I made my first ever no-save Success Mode player last night. I literally did not save once and took the path of least resistance from start to finish. He is a switch-hitting CF and started off terrible (1/1/31/3/3/3, Toothache) and ended up being rather beastly (2/9/188/12/12/11/11, Clutch 4, Contact HTR, Power HTR, Spray HTR, Push HTR, Hot HTR, Rally HTR, Walk-off HTR, Stealing 4, Base Running 4, Throwing 4, Consistency 4, Aggressive STL, Aggressive RUN, Aggressive FLD, and maybe a couple more). I wasted a few turns trying to catch the glove thief and performing various other fruitless endeavors, but I was surprised.

I know others have tried this, just wondering how you did?

Well, before I came to the forums, I had no idea S/L existed...

My best w/o s/l would probably be 4/6/180ish/5/7/7/7

I did it back with 07, and most of my players were probably low teir starting players. I haven't tried it in 08 because I don't make random players. Any guy I make has specific skills and abilities that I want, so I have to S/L

Are you saying it's wrong to talk to a bag of Skittles? Because if so, I'm going to need to rethink a lot of things. :P

If you check out Anthony Gallagher in password exchange, 3CBCCCB, he's my best no save player. And Eric, it appears the player you made had good sense.

Usually the only time I S/L is when I'm trying to get an ability from a Gambler's Ring, but a lot of my players are accomplished in one sitting without S/Ling.

Picked it up from Frank at the end of his arc. How can you tell?

What arcs did you take besides Frank's? Better question, how much practicing did you do for the Golden Apples? I always seem to have difficultly on low/no S/L runs with hitters getting on the roster.

Completed the arcs for Frank, Sittch and Isabella, maybe Tom. I'm not sure how much practice I did, but it probably wasn't enough. A lack of coach points had me on pace to miss the first game of the 2nd season until I crammed in a few practices at the wire and got lucky with a 6-pointer and a 4-pointer. Once Isabella arrived, I bulled my way through the steak arc for money, Vitality and power. I also had a good run with Jaw before I whiffed on a one-week job and he disappeared. I spent a lot of money on Fragrance and Powerin for practice. Never was injured, but I took very few risks. Didn't bother with the C-Chocs. Not wasting any Vitality on Sittch or Frank was key as well.

It was just a guess. I thought you had it to start because your stats were so bad and you started with a negative effect.

Horrendously bad starting stats (forgot to add another 3 for his starting SPD) for a player with an ailment. I got lucky and poked a few balls out of the yard, though.

I did a quick run last night and averaged a HORRENDOUS 3.6 coach points per game in AA. Just to be clear, a medium-sized dog could randomly step on the controller and average 3.6 coach points per game. So I crammed 7 practices between the final AA game and the scout test for a total of 11 practices during the AA season. It set me up for a stress-free run of AAA practices and enough coach points to play in Gm1.

So the answer to your question . . . Plan on a baseline of 10 AA practices. Subtract 1 AA practice for every good game, 2 AA practices for every great game, 3 AA practices for every mammoth game, and be prepared (full vit bar, stockpile of Powerin) when the AAA coach arrives.
