On the wiki page for Secrets of Defense it says it can be obtained from a Surprise Bag or from various events.

Does anyone have any examples of events you can get it from? I tried searching for it.

I was wondering, did you run into this problem while trying to make Ralph Siegmund? I was doing great, way ahead of the line in Scout's Eval at the end of Year 1, already got Great Catcher and some other abilities, and Jaw vanishes. I was planning on using him to get the Surprise Bag but I guess I ignored him for too long, so I have to get Secrets of Defense some other way.

I was thinking I wouldn't want to try a Surprise Bag either one or a million times, and wanted another way to get it.

It turns out, as always, there was already a success player in progress so I didn't really get around to trying the player myself.

So, there should be another way, I just can't remember if there was, or what it could be.

Maybe the Doctor's Glove Thief events?

I am fairly sure it's through the arc of the girl you meet at the park and date her??? Or one of the marvin events. I usually save/load with the surprise bags

The Steak Lady will give you a Surprise Bag about 50% of the time if you open your eyes to look at the bear and ask for even more money.

In my experiences it has worked every time with position players, but never with pitchers.
