Post subject:  Cincinnati Reds Catchers and backups

I'm having problems finding catching prospects for the reds... I found 2 (I need to find a few as I can't see Ramon Hernandez staying in Cincinnati). One was Devin Mesoraco (though I don't think his defence is even close to readiness) and Wilkin Castillo (though he is not a catcher firstly only a 'versatility player'). Any ideas?? Any ideas with stats for these 2 predominately I need help with batting stats.

Doesn't the default MLBPP '08 roster have like 4 catchers for the Reds? I boost the two guys in the minors they have, because they're actually pretty good. I think both have moved on to other teams now though.

If you need guys beyond them, afraid I can't help. Sorry.

True they have catchers on the default, but this is for the PS2 updated rosters based on 2010 and beyond. Tatum is now with the Orioles, and the others on the default are no longer with the team now.

I looked a bit further into the Reds catcher situation . . . and yeah, unless the Reds are hit with season-ending injuries to Ryan Hanigan and Corky Miller/Wilkin Castillo, there is virtually no chance Ramon Hernandez will reach his vesting option of 120 games played. He is only 50% of the way there with 63% of the Reds’ season in the books. So that leaves three veteran guys:

Ryan Hanigan: starter in 2011.
Wilkin Castillo: will battle acquisitions and invitees at ST for primary backup job.
Corky Miller: if the Reds offer him a minor league deal, he would be wise to take it and join the battle for #2.

. . .and the following younger players to consider:

Devin Mesoraco: good makeup, hitting better now that wrist is healed and 42% CS since May 2009; should definitely be included.
Brandon Yarbrough: older and more experienced than Mesoraco with less potential; he signed w/ Reds as minor league FA after decent career in STL organization.
Mark Fleury and Kevin Coddington: I know nothing about these two, but they seem to be the favorites at their respective levels.

Miles away, but some other names that appeared multiple times:
Tucker Barnhart, Trey Manz, Yovan Gonzalez, Danny Vicioso.
Yasmani Grandal, 2010 1st round pick, remains unsigned but would shoot up the list if/when he does.
Neftali Soto, the no-defense semi-slugger, has been experimenting at catcher – it hasn’t gone well, but his bat is blocked so there’s not much to lose.
