Post subject:  Abilites gained during games?
Are their any other abilities that can be gained by actually PLAYING games? When im a pitcher I always get VS LH Batter 4, and when im a fielder I get contact hitter alot...I wish the abilities in this game would be gained by doing certain things in a game.

In my experience, firstball hitter is almost impossible to avoid. Usually, if you're a game or 2 into year 2, you get it by getting a hit with no strikes. Even if you only get ONE. If you get it, but don't want it, you have to reload and never ever get a hit with no strikes EVER again.

I ALWAYS get firstball hitter...And maybe for other abilities like clutch hit they need to award that if you come through in the clutch a lot...

There's a few. Obviously, the easiest one to get is vs lefty 4(I hate how easy it is to get that).

As a hitter, I know you can get firstball hitter and hot hitter in game. You can get the negative ability Timely Whiff in game also, I get it by striking out with power swing every AB for 3 games in a row. I've never been able to get it in less time, but I've been wondering if there's a certain amount of times you have to strike out so I could gradually do it instead of wasting 3 whole games.

Alright, so I just tested the timely whiff thing out because I had a save of a player before the first game where he was already a starter. I struck out two times in 4 straight games, and acquired timely whiff. I swung away during the other AB's, and even got hits sometimes. So it looks like if you strike out 8 times, you may be able to get timely whiff. One thing is, I remember striking out once in the first year with this guy so it might be 9(although I'm not sure if it carries over or not).

I'm going to start up a new guy and try some things out, see if I can spread it out over the 2 years and still get it(which would mean there would be a set number of strikeouts most likely).

Yeah, I always make sure to strike out with power swing on(along with striking out swinging).

Alright, so it looks like Timely Whiff is acquired after striking out 9 times over the course of success mode.

I tested this by striking out once a game with power swing on, and after I struck out in the Year 2 July Week 1 game, I got Timely Whiff. That was the 9th game(I started every game in year 2).

Glad I figured this out, because now instead of wasting 3 whole games at the end of year 2, I can just spread out the strike outs and get the ability points from the last 3 games. What I'm really glad about is not having to rush to finish my player so fast, along with less gambling(especially the S/L for the gamblers ring).

If though your struggling to get timely whiff and get enough scout and coach points just date patty at mountains don't catch any fish and after save/load you get timely whiff

If you guys have more how-to's on abilities that never made it into the wiki, let's work on entering them there - otherwise, newcomers would have to go through endless threads.

You can also get Power Hitter, Push Hitter and Clutch 4 or 2. I want to say I have received Walk-Off Hitter and Rally Hitter as well, but I can't remember for sure.

Ah, didn't know that. I've never really done any of the dating stuff, so thanks for the info.

I was wondering if it was possible to get clutch 2 in game. I figure I'd either have to strike out or just get out a bunch with guys in scoring position, I'm going to have to test this out because there's a guy I want this ability for.

I've never got clutch 2 in a game. One other thing if people do want poor morale when creating 'real' players just go to the movies with Patty and see 'Animae' or 'Horror' movies. Click on all the time. And you can get this ability. If you go to the movies and select of the time and 'action' movies you can get 'spin 2' for pitchers.

It's a really helpful ability :P
