Post subject:  Fielders & Attributes

Hi,

Success mode is very fun and I'd like to create my own custom team. As I'm new to this game, I'd like to confirm that the players I'll create will be adapted to their position. Here is what I think of fielders attributes : (0 = no need to boost this attibute...)

Code:
    RunSpd ArmStr Field  ErrRes Throw
C     0     +++     ++     ++     R
1B    +      +      ++    +++     L
2B    +      +      ++     ++     R
3B    +      ++     ++     ++     R
SS    ++     ++    +++     ++     R
LF    +     +++    +++     +     R/L
CF   +++    +++    +++     +     R/L
RF    +     +++    +++     +     R/L

For Catcher I don't know if the error resistance reduces their misses.

Please correct this post if I'm wrong :)

Edit 1:
- Less E RES to infielders (except 1B)
- Less RunSpd to fielders to increase FLD (more efficient ?)
- More ArmStr and FLD to Catcher to prevent base stealing and passed balls

Edit 2 :
- Add speed to SS and CF

You may want to boost your Catcher's fielding and E Res. E Res prevents passed balls (I think) and fielding lets them get the ball out of their glove faster. You REALLY want that fielding and arm strength up to throw out runners trying to steal. The first catcher I made had Arm: B, Fld: A, and Eres: B. It's not that hard to make a good fielding catcher because all those quickness points you don't spend on run speed can go toward fielding and e res. You may want to boost run speed up to F if he starts with a G.

E RES is not as important as FLD, pretty much at all positions except 1B. Run Speed isn't as important as FLD either.
imo, at 1B you don't need to boost run speed.

I didn't know that fielding can improve you reaction speed, and I though that Arm Strength was only to throw long balls, thanks. I'm not sure about E RES and passed balls...

I though that outer fielder needed a lot of speed to cover more "grass"... And I hate errors ;)

I will update my first post :)

This could turn out to be a guide to which stats are most important for each position. If any of you veterans have any input for this, please help improve this guide!

Just want to put in my 2 cents

Code:
    RunSpd ArmStr Field  ErrRes Throw
C     0     +++     ++     ++     R
1B    0      +      ++    +++     L
2B    +      +      ++     ++     R
3B    +      ++     ++     ++     R
SS    ++     ++    +++     ++     R
LF    +     +++    +++     +     R/L
CF    +++    ++    +++     +     R/L
RF    +     +++    +++     +     R/L

Does the handedness of any of the positions actually matter?

Post subject:  Re: Fielders & Attributes

Yeh. You really don't want a LH 2B, SS, 3B. or C.

Why?

Post subject:  Re: Fielders & Attributes

Because a LH person trying to throw to first from the positions 2B, SS, OR 3B has to turn there entire body to throw. Try it.

Does it actually make a difference in Power Pros? I've never noticed it.

Even if it doesn't make a difference, there are no left-handed throwing 2B, SS, 3B or C beyond high school. You will never, ever see one in the major leagues unless it's a freak, stop-gap emergency job due to injuries, flu outbreak, etc. A left-handed player at one of those positions is the equivelent of a 160-pound left tackle in the NFL or 4-foot tall center in the NBA.

Redsoxman53 : If you remove speed from 1B, won't you have problem with bunts ?

1st post updated to add speed to CF and SS :)
