Post subject:  Blackbeard

With an estimated 40 turns left (Yr 2: April, Wk 2), here is my masterpiece so far:

Blackbeard Lowry, SP/RF
Pittsburgh Pirates
Bats/Throws: Right/Right

PITCHING

102 MPH
165 CTRL
192 STAM

7 Forkball
7 Palmball
3 Shuuto
2 Cutlass (Original pitch = Slider + more break)

Battler, Consistency, Dr. K, Fastball Life, Gd Delivery, Gd Low Pitch, Gd Morale, Gd Pace, Gd Pickoff, Gd Reflexes, Groundball P, Lucky, Poise, Recovery 4, Release, Safe Pitch, Spin, Star, STR Finisher, Vs LH Batter, w/ RISP

HITTING / DEFENSE

2 TRJ
11 CON
136 PWR
9 SPD
14 ARM
14 FLD
12 ERES

Bunt Master, Cannon Arm, Contact Hitter, Spray Hitter

NOTES

- Blackbeard’s MPH / Control / Stamina have been sitting at 102 / 165 / 190 for awhile because I plan on S/L for Dr. Good Job at some point. That will get him to 105 / 180 / 210. I have had a lot of good luck so far, but haven't seen DGJ yet. If he doesn't give me Durability, I will boost for it.

- I have Lucy's likability to 86, so Intimidator is in the bag.

- The AAA coach had Blackbeard batting cleanup during his first AAA game! Better yet, run support doesn’t seem to be a problem anymore.

- As a hitter, I originally planned on making him more Willie McGee than Willie Mays, but after mapping out the remaining 40 turns, it’s clear Blackbeard is going to be a Ruthian beast with a minimum of . . .

3 TRJ
12 CON
180 PWR
12 SPD
15 ARM
14 FLD
12 ERES

. . . along with: Bunt Master, Cannon Arm, Contact Hitter, Gold Glover, Power Hitter, Refined, Spray Hitter, maybe a couple more. If I boost his speed to 15, I will add Grt IF HTR and Stealing 4.

- I’m not sure if I will boost his Shuuto to 7, but I plan on giving him a maxed Curveball to go with his maxed out Forkball, Palmball and (eventually) Cutlass. I already have a Success pitcher with 6 maxed out breaking pitches and two fastballs, but how many guys throw 8 different pitches? I figured I would whittle it down and apply those extra breaking ball practices toward offense.

- Current Items/Equipment:
Pitching Heart Glove w/ 5 Glove Waxes
Gambler’s Ring
Focus Stone 2
Concentration Earplugs 2
Multi-color Spin Ball 2
Recovery Necklace
Psychic Goggles
Rookie’s Charm
Carryover Chocs

- Final Equipment will be:
Pitching Heart Glove w/ 5 Glove Waxes
Bomber Arch Bat (+6 PWR) w/ as many Bat Waxes as I can afford after final game.
Falcon Spikes (+2 SPD)

I will post his PW when he is finished.

Post subject:  Re: Blackbeard

Blackbeard started w/ Pr Sense and I haven't even seen Dr. Good Job yet. I will post his log when I'm finished, or at least email the Excel version to anyone who wants a copy. One key is not wasting any turns on practice or re-fueling your vitality bar during the first season. Why?

1) Games provide all the coach/scout points you need - after the finall AA game, you can have a scout bar that is completely full and a coach bar beyond the AAA checkpoint.
2) Filling up the Energy bar sooner by completing Free Time tasks and the Random Events sandwiched between = more turns later. You get more than enough Experience Points from Free Time events and Games to have a dominant pitcher during the first season. This is also where many Special Abilities come from. Your Energy bar can be completely full sometime before or after the final AA game.
3) Because you are doing only Free Time tasks early, and because 99% of your Free Time tasks don't require Vitality, there is no need to fill up the Vitality bar. Doing so is a waste of three valubale resources: Vitality, Turns and Money. In other words, don't waste turns/money eating food or buying powerin and don't waste turns at the Steak House if you don't need to.

By about Year 1: Sept. Wk 3, you will have finished the Arcs and most of the random events. You will have captured the two thieves and your Energy bar will be full. This is when you buy the Focus Stone, Earplugs, Spin Ball and Recovery Necklace and get serious about practice.

Not really. I made a pitcher who turned out pretty good, but I kept a log and made a few notes along the way of things I would do different. Then I started another pitcher (who I accidentally erased) but noticed a couple of more things I would do different. Blackbeard is the result of those lessons.

Unbelievable player, nice job. Wish he was for the Wii (Although I probably wouldn't use him, he's just TOO good to use, too easy haha).
