See the last page for the most recent Updates.
Update March 15
It's been so long and we're yet to have a player done. I just don't see this getting done by Power Pros 09 coming out, or if so, only barely before where its useless. Yet we've done so much work already that I don't want to abandon this, but rather start it again for the 09 Power pros.
Changes:

Catcher: None
First Base: Jimmy Fox is the back-up, Lou Gherig of course is the main first-basemen.
Second Base: None
Short Stop: None
Third Base: Schmidt is the Main Third Base-man, back-up has not yet been decided
Outfield: A few. The main center-fielder has been gived to Ty Cobb over Dimaggio because Ty Cobb is a different type of hitter then anyone else on the team and the perfect lead-off hitter. I have also decided to put Rickey Henderson as the fifth out-fielder (Dimaggio as the fourth) over Willie Mayes for for a similar reason because while he may not be as good, he is a better lead-off hitter and an exelent back-up if Ty Cobb were to get injured. While we may not get to it, it is my intention that Willie Mayes is made as well as Pete Rose, the all-time leader in hits.
Starters: Nothing but I just wanted to announced the long-over due news that Ed Walsh and Mathewson won and will be made. Yet, I believe that we should also make the wildly popular and successful play-off pitcher Walter Johnson as a more then capable back-up and for some one of the top 5 starters. We now just have to determine the other 8 starters to be made.
Relievers: Nothing yet decided except that the previous closer, Mariano, won't be on the team till he retires in two years. I had a change in heart about active-players being on the team.

Introduction:

Last year, a group of several ambitious users attempted to create a team of all the best players to ever play the game. However, as good as the effort was, it was rather an unorganized mess with players hidden in the folds on tens of pages. I wanted to try to give this another try and have a plan this time. Rather then just a thread for hall-of-famers, I hope that we can create a team, an expansion team. Every player will have there own position, from first base to closer. How do we determine these players? By vote! Yes, unless there appears to be a unanimous agreement (as in the case of Babe Ruth, Ted Williams and Lou Gherig), we determine everything democratically. A discussion takes place as we narrow down the vote to anywhere from 2 to 6 candiates. Then, once we have the majority of the players done, we begin to discuss specific stats and abilities for each player until we determine what exactly we want each player to be. then, a certain user is assigned to make the player with the exact requierements, and then we post him up here for everyone to use.
This page will constantly be updated with every new decision, poll, page, player made, or really any event. Soon, we may even have a web page just for this purpose and certainly soon a page on the wiki. Anyone contribution to choosing and making players is more then appreciated and we'd like everyone's help as we make a forum-wide effort to make a virtually unbeatable team of the best players to ever walk on to the stage that is a baseball field.
Edit: As of Saturday, October 18th, 2008, the confirmed players are:
Roster:

Starters are bolded, back-ups are indented. Starters will be made first
First Base: Lou Gherig
Jimmie Fox
Second Baseman: Roger Hornsby
Jackie Robinson
Third Base: Alex Rodriguez
Mike Schmidt
Short Stop: Honus Wagner
Ernie Banks
Right Field/Pitcher-Babe Ruth
Left Field- Ted Williams
Catcher- Yogi Berra
Johnny Bench

Players that need to be created:

All except possibly Lou Gherig.
Stats for players so far:

Yikes! We haven't even found these yet.

Players that are currently being worked on:

None - Being created by no one
Players Completed:
Nada- No tienes player hoy :x

Things have changed a lot, so I edited and took away most of what was in this post to avoid confusion. All I'm leaving is this:
Closer:
No question what so ever, Mariano Rivera. If you have any arguments, I have countless stats to show this is one of the best pitchers since the deadball era and the best closer of all time without doubt. Just one example: He has the best Adjusted ERA+ statistics of anyone. Adjusted ERA+ is your ERA compared to that of your era with 100 being average, below 100 being below average, and above 100 being above average. Mariano in his career has an ERA of 198. Pedro is next and isn't even closer with 160. After that is Left Grove with 148. If anyone even mentions the word K-Rod...

Mike Schmidt at 3rd?
Ozzie Smith at SS?
Could have Hank Aaron

I forgot about Hank Aaron. I didn't put DH because I think we should determine the other players first. The best hitter that hasn't been put in a position gets this. Hank might be a candidate for this. The center fielders not chosen come to mind as does Reggie Jackson.
By the way, Moose is winning 3-0 and has pitched 5! He virtually never gives up runs past the 2nd/3rd With the Yankees bull pen (which hasn't lost a game past the eighth), his low pitch count, and the fact that almost every start he pitches 6+ innings (almost always 6) and doesn't come out because of getting hit hard or give up late runs. Looks like he will finally get his 20th win, good luck with the Hall-Of-Fame Moose!
A-Rod could very well have the most home-runs ever (more then Steroids Bonds who I won't put on this list because while he was a hall of famer without them, he wasn't one of the best) and also is a gold glover and has a 310ish average. He has a huge amount of RBIs and he's on track I think to be in the top 3, possibly the most. Smidt was a very good player but I don't think he was that good. Can you shows me some statistics to back it up. Same with Ozzie because I'm really not sure with shortstop. Jeter would be one you would want as the back up without doubt because he is so good in the play-offs that you'd want him to start there. Same with A-Rods back up since you don't want him to play then!
By the way, for back up catcher, I'm think Ivan Rodrigues.

You are forgetting about the best catcher of all time, Johnny Bench. The Nasty Boyz could be Relievers but i dont think anyone is old enough to remember them.

No it doesn't mate, any of those three have an incredibly good argument. Because there so close, you need stats to back it up mate.

Where's Ricky Henderson? Fastest player of all time! (However Jacoby Ellsbury may be able to break that) Carl Yestremzski? Carlton Fisk? Gaylord Perry? Maybe even JOE MORGAN?

First of all their is no way Ellsbury can even be compared to Hendrickson. The games stats don't allow us to fully represent his speed. Gardner of the Yankees is actualy slightly faster then Ellsbury, although their very close.
Hendrickson is at the very least a certain pinch-runner on the bench, but your talking about the best players of all time.
Carl Yestremzski, Carlton Fisk, and Gaylord Perry could all make very strong arguments, but please back up what your saying with stats.
Let me compare Mayes, Dimagio and Tye Cobb.
Cobb:
Games: 3035
At Bats: 11429
Runs: 2245
Hits: 4191
Doubles: 723
Triples: 297
Home Runs: 117
RBI: 1,938
Stolen Bases: 892
Caught Stealing: 178
Walks: 1249
Strike Outs: 1249
Average: 367
On Base Percentage: 424
Slugging Percentage: 512
Total Bases: 5859
Sac Hits: 295
Hit By Pitches: 94

Some of these teams did get moved around so that could change it. Yes, however, generally the AL has been quite a bit better then the NL and their best players have generally been better. I researched and looked at a lot of experts opinions and they generally mentioned the ones I put up. There is only so much statistics can tell you though and I'm basing it all on this. So, to continue,
(I'm about to edit this)
Willie Mayes:
Games: 2,992
At Bats: 10,881
Runs: 2,062
Hits: 3,283
Doubles: 523
Triples: 140
Homeruns:660
RBIs: 1,903
Stolen Bases: 338
Caught Stealing: 103
Walks: 1,464
Strike Outs: 1,526
Average: .302
On Base Percentage: .384
Slugging Percentage: .557
Total Bases: 6,066
Sac Hits: 13
Hit By Pitches: 44

I put this on another post to make things cleaner and more organized.
I'm now going to rank them for each statistic.
Joe DiMaggio was so hurt by injuries and had missed a few years from world war 2 that he can't be considered based on anything besides Average and slugging, so I'll soon put up a list of statistic per a year. He only played 13 seasons. Willie Mayes and Ty Cobb both played 22 years.
At Bats: Ty Cobb First, Willie Mays 2nd, Joe Dimaggio 3rd
Games: Ty Cobb First, Willie Mays 2nd, Joe Dimaggio 3rd
Runs Scored: Ty Cobb First, Willie Mayes 2nd, Joe Dimaggio 3rd
Hits: Ty Cobb First, Willie Mayes 2nd, Joe Dimaggio 3rd
Doubles: Ty Cobb First, Willie Mays 2nd Joe Dimaggio 3rd
Triples: Ty Cobb First, Joe Dimaggio 2nd, Willie Mayes 3rd
Homers: Willie Mayes First, Joe Dimaggio 2nd, Ty Cobb 3rd
RBIs: Ty Cobb First, Willie Mayes second, Joe Dimaggio 3rd
Stolen Base: Ty Cobb First, Willie Mayes Second, Joe Dimaggio Third
Caught Stealing: Joe Dimaggio First Willie Mayes Second, Ty Cobb Third,
Walks: Ty Cobb First, Willie Mayes second, Joe Dimaggio 3rd
On Base Percentage: Ty Cobb First, Joe Dimaggio Second, Willie Mayes 3rd
Slugging: Joe Dimaggio First, Willie Mayes Second, Ty Cobb Third
Total Bases: Ty Cobb First, Willie Mayes second, Joe Dimaggio 3rd
So based on this analysis it seems clear to me that Ty Cobb is a better player then Willie Mayes. I will now compare Ty Cobbs best seasons with Dimaggio's best and the average of each stat each year. If Ty Cobb wins out (as I expect), then I'll compare Dimagio to Mayes for the fourth outfielde,r and then the last will be the fifth. Anyone willing to do this for other positions so I don't have to again?
