can someone explain how you find the thief and if its worth it, and which storyline is the best, i've only tried sittch and it seemed pretty good, but maybe someone can explain how to follow the storylines also when you need to impress the coach and scouts. it seems that every time i try and follow a story my player falls below the line and is cut from the team. thanks!

Lucy: Useless for hitters, gives Dr. K + Intimidator for pitchers. Talk to her at vicinage, and when likability is almost all the way up you can offer to marry her. If she says yes, you've basically finished the arc. Must win AA championship, be prepared to S/L for it.
Rating: 2/10 for hitters, 7.5/10 for pitchers.

Patty: Gives Gyroball + 110 BB points + Tri Fangs + Bat/Glove Wax (Bat for hitters, glove for pitchers) + Spikes Wax. Talk to her at Ducks'. Once you get her likability to about 1/4th, 1/5th, ask her out, don't talk to her. Go to mountain first, then lookout every other date until the fireworks part. How to complete her arc: Get Patty's rating up

Eat about 4 hot dogs to get Ben to show up at the street. Visit Ben at the street and agree to help him.

Get the RE where Marvin offers you a black dog and accept it.

Ben will soon notice you dating Patty [Go to lookout every other date, park/mountain/lake the other half] . On Wk 2 or 3 of Dec, Ben will give you a gift to give to Patty. Use it. If he doesn't give you one, buy one!

Visit the lookout about every other date so that you get all 4 of the lookout REs complete. (eventually you will just go there and leave which means you've done them all)

Keep visiting the Hot dog stand to eventually get a bunch of events where Patty leaves and returns from school. I think you need to take her back to the lookout at this point. This is where you have the option of choosing ducks or baseball. (I chose ducks but I don't think it matters)

Ben will get sick. You just keep going back to the Hot dog stand (Patty's face will be there now) and help her out with everything. After about 3-4 visits, she thanks you and gives you glove wax, spike wax, and Gyroball. You also receive breaking ball points.

I only did this once, but the way it happened seemed as though Gyroball was guaranteed because it wasn't the last thing that you receive during this event. (the waxes were)

Sittch: Gives Contact Hitter or Spray Hitter (if you already have contact hitter) to hitters, original pitch for pitchers.
Rating: 9/10 (Tons of mentality, technique points)

Emily: No clue about requirements. Gives Star mainly, other abilities such as push hitter, battler, and good infield hitter received with her.
Rating: 6.5/10 (Give or take some, depending on usage in season mode, as they'll be a pain in the butt in contract negotiations)

Ghost Fountain: Gives Star. Not main arc, haven't completed it. Go to park, must be triggered by Marvin talking about it.
Rating: 5/10 (too random)

Tom: apparently gives abilities such as clutch hit 4, good bunt, and good morale (randomly given).
Rating: 7.5/10 (not too much effort for it, you don't lose vitality, funny)

The only other good one is

Gives Pricey Handbag, Discount Coupon, Powerins (and DX's and specials), some mentality. funniest actual mini-arc or arc, random but going to vicinage can trigger it at random.
Rating: 7.5/10 (saved my life on one guy by giving me the handbag [for patty] the week b4 x-mas, (i ended up getting gyro), useful items, very funny, not much effort)

other guys can help, but these are the basics.

Lucy isn't useless for hitters. In my experience she's useless for pitchers.

What does Lucy give hitters anyway? We already know Patty gives intimidator.

Well, according to StevenJackson39, nothing. But, maybe try ONLY dating her and see what happens.

It's been a while but it might've been spray hitter.

you can get Spray Hitter from Sittch. Besides it's not as rare or useful as intimidator. But yeah, Lucy must give SOMETHING...
