Hello, new MLBPP fan here...didn't even know about the series until I spotted '08 on Amazon for $6.95 on Black Friday, and decided to give it a spin. (I soon got myself a copy of the previous year's title too, for the other Success Mode.)

I've found much wonderful information here, but am still a little confused about settings in Success mode.

There are no options within Success to tinker with the batting or pitching settings, apart from the basic A vs. B controller setting, or most of the difficulty settings. Not finding any global options, I was hoping that maybe setting up the control options in Practice Mode (the most easily-accessible set from the main menu) would carry over, but it doesn't look like they do.

Does this mean that most settings are out of my hands in this mode? And if so, how does that affect operation of the Rookie Charm? Reading the game's description literally, it would seem that the Rookie Charm causes the CPU to control fielding and running, if a "Lock On" setting has been chosen...but if I can't turn Lock On on or off in Success Mode, then that must mean the Rookie Charm is either always on or always off. Or maybe I've just made a mistake in presuming the translator carefully chose his words...

P.S. Also, I don't suppose that there's an option to turn off the background music--either in the Success Mode games or anywhere else--at any point? It's starting to drive me to distraction.

I thought there was an option for the music somewhere......

If you have the rookie's charm your fielding will be set to auto and your batting will be set to lock-on.

Welcome to the forums!
1: Sorry about this, but you're either going to mute the TV or drown the agitating music out.
2: Most of the settings are out of your choice in this mode, to make things as even as possible for everybody. This is why it's so tough to get a maxed-out guy. If you think about it, they want the game to be harder, so Konami's not going to give you the option of making the games lock-on 5 on Novice.
