Well, they S/L so much that they eventually get a Goodjob. That's one thing. I'm not one of those players to make those insane guys, so you really shouldn't listen to me much. But that's important, because he can give 20 CTRL points and 30 STAM points, along with a lot of points and 5 TOP SPD!

Jaw is also good. He helps give you a GR, which makes your life so much easier. Not only does he give you Suprise Bags (with some S/L, to make sure you get the right job), you can also get a bat/glove, and you always get AT LEAST $150! Not bad!

The #1 key thing, however, is playing good in games (aside from GJ, I guess). That means you can practice freely, spend more time in arcs to acquire abilities (Sittch and Frank, mainly), and get more Jaw Jobs. All the money this can get can be spent on gloves, bats, spikes, and Bat/Glove/Spike Waxes, which help a lot.

Again, don't listen to this like it's the Bible, since I don't make those amazing guys, but this is a guidline. (And for you newbies who think there's no way that all this could be just a guideline, you obviously haven't made a good Success guy have you?)

It's much easier to get A stamina and B control that to get A control and B stamina but it's not impossible. Many people just S/L with gamblers ring to boost skills and get abilities without spending too much time practicing. I just play through without S/L so here's how I do it...

Other strategies will tell you this, but get the psychic goggles before the first game you pitch. Also have at least one level 2 pitch so you'll be able to get Ks easily. You'll get more points to boost your pitches and top speed. This should also let you practice what and when you want to without worrying too much about you coach rating. You should be able to boost your pitches from games alone. Games also yield abilities such as Dr. K, RISP 4, Consistency 4, Vs Left 4, Low Pitch, Poise 4 and Fastball Life 4. Just make sure you pitch well. As long as you have the goggles, you wont need to worry about S/L. You'll get most other abilities from REs. Check the Wiki for those.

Carryover chocolates are a must! more turns = most time to boost skills. Get your energy filled as quickly as you can. Don't waste money on active drinks. Other topics are very detailed in strategies to get this done. A short explanation is, play well in games so you don't have to practice and you'll get to do more energy boosting activities.

I upgrade my stamina manually until I get to about 100 C stam. By that point, you'll most likely have already gotten the Steakhouse job. Keep working there and you'll get 4 to 5 point stamina boosts per visit. You'll be at A Stamina in no time especially after you get the special steak. Once you've boosted to the level desired, don't waste your time there.

Completing the Sittch training and practicing with him will give you 22 Breaking ball points each time. You'll definitely need those as you boost you breaking pitches. You'll of course get an original pitch this way. Don't worry about have 5 different pitches because you'll never beable to boost them all over level 2 or so. start off with 3 or so and focus on boosting those to at least level 3 before getting another one. I'll usually pick one to make my knock-out pitch. I boost it to 5 or 6, level 7 is overkill unless you're maxing every pitch. They'll sit on a level 7 if your next best pitch is a level 2.

On turns you can't work there, focus on boosting you top speed and pitches through practicing. Don't worry about getting 100mph during the game. Use your money to get as many glove waxes as you can at the end of the mode. If your goal is 90 mph, that shouldn't be too hard. You should be able to get that by year two no problem. I'll usually try to get it to at least 95 on my own then use waxes at the end of the game.

Once top speed is where you want it, focus on control. Try to have at least level C control by the first game of year 2. That way, getting to B will be much more manageable. It will aslo help you spot pitches against the good hitters you'll be facing.

Control is harder to boost beacuse mentality points are harder to come by. You'll get them from REs and some practices as well as Sittch's training. Boost it as much as you can when you can afford it. I've maxed at high B without S/L.

At the end of the mode is when you should by equipment. If you did Sittch's training, you should already have a glove. If he gave you the Heavyweight, sell it. Make sure you have a glove and spikes that give you control boosts at the end of the game. Accelerator Spikes don't usually give enough of a boost for the price. Only get them if they'll give you +2 Top Speed. Glove Waxes will occasionally give you +2 Top Speed at half the price.

Prepare to S/L a lot if you want a beast. Check out the player logs by SmileyFace and Hockeyrama. I made my own template (a simplified version of SmileyFace’s) and have been working on a SP, my first after making a ton of maxed out hitters. Knowing when and where the Random Events occur and which ones to target helps a ton. More advice:
- Start off with a player that has Pr Sense. You get higher starting stats and turning Pr Sense into Gd Sense is fairly simple.
- You need to meet Jaw early and get a Gambler’s Ring.
- You need to finish the arcs for Siitch, Frank, and the Steak lady.
- You need to load up on Carryover Chocolates and eat them religiously to get more turns.
- You don’t necessarily need a successful Dr. Good Job, but it helps.
- You need to have Phychic Goggles to dominate the IP you control in games.
- You need to do well in games for experience/coach/scout eval points and special abilities so you can afford more time to finish Free Time arcs, max your energy (more turns) and do enough 2-week Jaw Jobs to get a) special abilities and b) money for glove wax and other helpful equipment.

I just finished the last week of Year 1 (mid-offseason) and my SP looks like this:

102 mph
163 control
222 stamina

7 Forkball
7 Drop Curveball
5 Original Pitch (Shunkball - sinker/more break)

Special Abilities (in order of acqusition): Gd Pace, Recovery 4, Gd Morale, Gd Pickoff, Poise 4, Gd Low Pitch, VS Lefty 4, Fastball Life 4, Dr. K, Gd Delivery, STR Finisher, Consistency, GD Reflexes, Lucky, W/RISP, Groundball P, Gd Sense, Spin, Release, Safe Pitch.

Current Items owned: Rookie Charm, Gambler’s Ring, Psychic Goggles, Recovery Necklace, Focus Stone 2, Concentration Earplugs 2, Breaking Ball 2, Carryover Chocolates.

Common dates for seeing Dr. Good Job appear to be:
Yr 1, March, between weeks 1 and 2;
Yr 1, May, between weeks 3 and 4;
Yr 1, October, between weeks 1 and 2;
Yr 1, November, between weeks 2 and 3;
Yr 2, January, between weeks 3 and 4;
I believe any date where a Random Event is available will work, but from experience, this is where I’ve had the most luck; particularly with the first one. If I progress past the last one without seeing Dr. GJ, I will buy 3 more waxes to boost my mph to 105 before the first game of Year 2 and concentrate exclusively on control, breaking pitches and defense/offense for the remainder of the game.

:jawdrop: :shocked: That guy is already insane! A GJ, Eric? Also, thanks for the info. Since SF isn't making as many players anymore, that gives me time to make my maxed fielder! I have been S/L for a GR for ages! Is it possible to get 2 GR's in one week? I forgot to open one and tried in the same week.

Also, how do you get Recovery 4? The only way I know is resting w/ Sittch, but you got it that early, so I don't think that's what you did. Is it?

You can get it from the steak house after eating the special steak.

Nah I never get Good Job and my control rarely peaks D or C. The best control guy I made was a reliever with a few 3-4 breaking balls and a 90+ mile fast ball as well a C or D stamina, but he was nothing special. If you want to see the best pitching guide, check out Smiley Face's guide. Just go to this page in the wiki and scroll down to download his players log. wiki/index.php?title=Smiling_Faces96

My SP has had one successful Dr. Goodjob operation during Yr 1, March, between weeks 1 and 2.

You can get as many GR’s per week as you want. It just takes luck and patience. I have been pretty fortunate with this character. I got the GR after only a few S/L’s. I got the Focus Stone 2 for free. I picked up two of my SoP books after only a few S/L’s. Most of my S/L time was spent fishing for specific RE’s and Abilities and gamble-boosting mph with low % of success. 96 mph is natural. The last 9 mph will all be wax. I think 95/10 is a near-perfect ratio.

I picked up Recovery 4 from Frank’s very first workout during the first week he shows up (week 3). Just choose “Upper Body” and you will get it eventually. When you have coffee with him during your 2nd meeting, choose “Are you treating?” to get Gd Pickoff. He will also give you Gd Reflexes (“About that dream of yours…”) and Battler (End of Arc, Yr 2). Frank might a manic depressive but he is good for quite a few things.

Sweet, thanks! It's too bad I'm making a fielder right now.

I think I was incredibly unfortunate enough to reach quadruple digits. Maybe, maybe not, but it sure felt that way... I'm assuming some of you have felt the same way at some point.

If you want a copy of my player log (for a SP), shoot me a PM with your email addy. I can email it to you as an attachment. It's an excel spread that also has Smiley's Log, Hockey's log, Dating guides for Patty and Lucy, and lists for Attributes, Items and Special Abilities.

geez, eric.
as for me, i only practice when a coach is at the practice facility.
I usually try to focus on one thing at a time (i work on breaking balls first while slowly increasing stam and ctrl.)
during the 2 month break (dec.-jan.), focus on lucy/patty (intimidator/gyro) and sittch (orig).
take a look at david wrong (my best guy) and see. he doesn't have the best ctrl/stam (he's a closer), but he's still fantastic.

I haven't had much time to work on my SP lately, but I managed to finish the first game of season 2 last night and am grinding my way toward the first Galaxy Sharks match-up. Most of my recent upgrades have been to hitting/fielding: Trj +1, Con +3, Pwr +15, Run Spd +3, Arm Str +3, Fld +3 Eres +1. I'm happy with his core abilities, so I'll probably just make him a flawless defender and see how many level 7 pitches I can get. By the way, can you reload each glove wax until it gives you +2? Just wondering if I should buy two or three glove waxes.

102 mph
180 control
232 stamina

7 Forkball
7 Drop Curveball
7 Original Pitch (Shunkball - sinker/more break)
7 Slider
1 Circle Change

Special Abilities (in order of acquisition): Gd Pace, Recovery 4, Gd Morale, Gd Pickoff, Poise 4, Gd Low Pitch, VS Lefty 4, Fastball Life 4, Dr. K, Gd Delivery, STR Finisher, Consistency, GD Reflexes, Lucky, W/RISP, Groundball P, Gd Sense, Spin, Release, Safe Pitch, Gold Glover, Batter.

Current Items owned: Rookie Charm, Gambler’s Ring, Psychic Goggles, Recovery Necklace, Focus Stone 2, Concentration Earplugs 2, Breaking Ball 2, Carryover Chocolates.

Heh yeah, but for me the true trick is to get a decent player without all of that save loading.
For a realistic good player, I just practice a lot and complete only the Sittch arch (the easiest).

Helps out with coach eval, which I wonder how s/l people get >.>

I finished my first S/L starting pitcher last night. What's the best way to post the log? I'll get his code up eventually as well, along with codes for some of my favorite maxed out hitters. His stats:

#77 Clyde Zapp, SP (SEA)
B/T: R/R
DOB: 7/7/89 (Age 19)
Experience: Rookie
Delivery: Overhand 23

105 mph
182 control
242 stamina

7 Forkball
7 Drop Curveball
7 Original Pitch (Shunkball - sinker/more break)
7 Slider
7 Circle Change
7 Curve Ball
1 2SFB

TRJ 2
CON 11
PWR 72
RUN 15
ARM 14
FLD 14
RES 12

Special Abilities (in order of acquisition): Gd Pace, Recovery 4, Gd Morale, Gd Pickoff, Poise 4, Gd Low Pitch, VS Lefty 4, Fastball Life 4, Dr. K, Gd Delivery, STR Finisher, Consistency, GD Reflexes, Lucky, W/RISP, Groundball P, Gd Sense, Spin, Release, Safe Pitch, Gold Glover, Batter, Consistency, Gd Bunt, Durability.

Notes:
- The Pitching Heart Glove, Tri Fangs Spikes, W Shot Bat and waxes account for +6 Control, +6 Stamina, +9 mph, +5 Running Speed and +2 Contact
- I managed one succesful Dr. Goodjob.
- I whiffed on Lucy for Intimidator. I didn't take her on a date prior to the final Wild Jokers game and she never appeared again.
- I practiced 10 times in Yr 1 (mostly weights and accuracy) and 34 times in Yr 2 (mostly breaking ball and fielding). I'm guessing at least 1/3 of those Yr 2 practices would not have been possible without the Recovery Necklace.
- Next time, I will only boost mph to 90 and build the last 15 mph with waxes.
